The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and the Communications Ministry should jointly investigate whether a major e-commerce platform’s newly introduced fee structure compliess to principles of fair trade and transparency, says MCA.

At a press conference on Friday (July 11), MCA Economic and SME Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Lawrence Low said the charges are not only excessive but could push many micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to the brink—especially those already struggling with rising operating costs and shrinking profit margins.

Low also urged the government to fast-track the implementation of a code of conduct for e-commerce platforms and introduce a fee declaration mechanism to ensure that any future changes are made transparently and with proper regulatory oversight.
