US President Donald Trump has announced a sweeping 35% tariff on all Canadian imports, effective August 1, 2025. The decision, framed as a response to Canadian trade barriers and alleged fentanyl smuggling across the border, marks a sharp escalation in Us-Canada trade tensions. Trump warned that any retaliatory measures from Canada would result in even steeper tariffs. The move comes as part of a broader offensive, with Trump sending formal letters to 22 nations, including key US allies, signaling a tougher stance on global trade.

00:00:00With that, we are beginning this very bulletin with our focus on breaking news that's coming in from the international arena.
00:00:13Trump has now come out to announce 35% tariffs on Canada.
00:00:19Trump warns of higher tariffs if Canada retaliates.
00:00:24Now, the United States President Donald Trump on Thursday has announced this very 35% tariff being slapped on Canadian imports.
00:00:31The new tariff is set to take effect on August 1st, 2025 and will be applying to Canadian products entering the United States
00:00:41and comes as a part of what Trump called a response to Canada's retaliation and ongoing trade barriers.
00:00:48With that, we have Pranay Upadhyay joining us on the broadcast at the very top of this bulletin.
00:00:58Pranay, a very good morning to you.
00:00:59Very firstly, help us understand these tariffs that we see on Canada.
00:01:04Yet again, there seems to be tensions across the world with regards to Trump announcing new tariffs against several countries.
00:01:14Canada also seems to now have joined that very list.
00:01:18Good morning, Shreya.
00:01:19And in continuation of President Donald Trump's unilateral letters to various countries,
00:01:24he has already sent out letters to 22 countries so far, including the major trading partners of the United States.
00:01:32And in the same series, he has sent out the new letter to Canada, which is a big trading partner of the United States,
00:01:40also the neighboring country for the United States.
00:01:42And you know that since President Donald Trump assumed office, he started with the idea of including Canada as the 51st state of the United States.
00:01:54And then he launched a tariff war against Canada, though he visited Canada recently for the G7 summit.
00:02:01And thereafter, he said that, you know, he's willing to work with Canada.
00:02:06But now he has sent out this letter stating that, you know, the U.S. is willing to work with Canada.
00:02:13But since Canada has imposed a retaliatory tariff, then now he is forced to announce this 35% tariff.
00:02:22He also cited, you know, the reason of sending this letter by saying that the concern regarding the fentanyl, you know,
00:02:34the smuggling of fentanyl in coming to the United States through the Canadian borders, and this remains a concern for him.
00:02:41And that's why he is imposing this 35% blanket tariff, you know, on every incoming good from Canada.
00:02:52So this clearly shows that this remains a tense issue between Canada and United States.
00:02:57And because since he initially started of taking a tariff action against Canada, Canada also imposed a tariff.
00:03:05So clearly, this is an intensified tariff war because this is not about Canada alone.
00:03:11This is about every country.
00:03:12Recently, he's entitled a letter to Brazil as well.
00:03:18And there he even mentioned about the local politics of Brazil.
00:03:21And he has imposed the 50% tariff on Canada with a caution, with a warning that if there is a retaliatory tariff,
00:03:29then there will be further tariff imposed on the Canadian imports.
00:03:32So clearly, President Donald Trump is using tariff as an important tool or as an important weapon to pursue his foreign policy.
00:03:41And as far as India is concerned, since many people would be having concern about our trade with the United States.
00:03:51So recently, once again, the Indian negotiating team is traveling to the United States.
00:03:59They are doing this by now.
00:04:00And we will be again starting our negotiation process, which is already in a very advanced stage to conclude a tariff,
00:04:07a bilateral trade agreement with the United States.
00:04:10Right, Pranay.
00:04:11Pranay, do stay with us.
00:04:12And thank you for those details that we're picking up on this very tariff that's been now imposed on Canada.
00:04:18We will come back to you with more news that we are currently picking up from the international arena.
00:04:23However, from a different side, though, yes, it is associated with the United States itself.
00:04:30Let's take a look as to what we have for you.
00:04:40Now, the United States issues a dire warning on Iran, warns U.S. citizens not to travel to Iran for any reason whatsoever.
00:04:50Risks include wrongful detentions, terrorism and aviation threats.
00:04:55Now, U.S. citizens, especially dual nationals, face serious detention risks.
00:05:00No U.S. consular access.
00:05:01The Swiss government provides limited support.
00:05:05This is what's been said.
00:05:07And this is an official report that we are picking up, wherein the United States has issued an advisory for all their citizens not to be traveling to Iran for whatever reasons required.
00:05:19Now, Pranay continues to be with us.
00:05:21Pranay, this is an important news that we are picking up, completely asking your citizens to absolutely not be traveling to a given country at this given point.
00:05:30How are we looking at this move?
00:05:33Shreya, the U.S. and Iran relations remained tense after the ceasefire, which was announced after the 12-day war between Iran and Israel,
00:05:42where U.S. also kind of participated with the bombing on Fordow in the Isfahan and Natanz facility, nuclear facilities of Iran.
00:05:50There have been, you know, walls in Iran to take retribution, to take revenge from the United States.
00:06:00The sentiments remain high in Iran as well.
00:06:03And that's why the U.S. has advised all citizens, especially those who are of Iranian descent and Iranian origin,
00:06:12not to travel to Iran because they have their relatives, their families and, like, you know, their friends.
00:06:17And at times they do visit the United States.
00:06:21The United States has issued a travel advisory for those who wish to travel to Iran,
00:06:28that they should refrain from any sort of travel because the situation is not conducive.
00:06:34You know, Shreya, that since 1979 onwards, when U.S. had to close its embassy there in Tehran,
00:06:42U.S. doesn't hold any embassy in Tehran and U.S. work via Swedish embassy there in Tehran.
00:06:48And that's why U.S. does not have a capacity to give consular access to have very limited consular services there in Iran.
00:06:59And that's why U.S. has advised its citizens, especially those who hold dual nationality, not to travel to Iran.
00:07:07But this also shows, like, you know, how U.S. and Iran can have a further, you know, attention
00:07:14because recently there have been statements, you know, even said to President Donald Trump,
00:07:20which he did not consider, he kind of laughed it out.
00:07:24But, yes, this remains a concern because coming from the former advisor of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,
00:07:32Mr. Javad Larijani, that there could be a drone attack targeting President Donald Trump.
00:07:37However, Iran has distanced from it.
00:07:40But, yes, there are concerns.
00:07:42And that's why the U.S. State Department, U.S. travel department,
00:07:47the troubled desk of the State Department has issued this travel advisory for everyone who wished to travel to Iran.
00:07:58Right, Pranay. Thank you for bringing us those details.
00:08:01Viewers, this is what we are picking up.
00:08:03Yes, the U.S.-Iran tensions, even though the escalations have come to an end.
00:08:07For now, we do see tensions still persist at this point as we speak of the relations that are being shared between these two nations.
00:08:17Shifting our focus and moving on now, Surrey Police Service, the SPS officers are investigating
00:08:31shops-fired incident at a new-to-new neighbourhood business.
00:08:35Surrey Cop start probe on Comics Café attack at this point.
00:08:40This is Kapil Sharma's Café that we are speaking of.
00:08:43Kapil Sharma's Café attacked in Canada.
00:08:47The probe is currently underway.
00:08:49On Thursday, remember, July 10th, at around 1.50 a.m.,
00:08:53Surrey Police Service was called to a business located in the 8400 block of 120 Street
00:09:00for a report of shots fired.
00:09:02Now, upon the police arrival there, it was quickly determined that the shots were fired
00:09:06toward the business damaging the property, while the staff members were still present inside.
00:09:11Now, there were no injuries, fortunately, to any one of the business.
00:09:15SPS officers gathered evidence and canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance video.
00:09:21So, this is what we are picking up at this given point, that the Surrey Police Officers,
00:09:27Police Services, have taken this case up now and investigation has currently been launched.
00:09:33We have Arvind Doja joining us on the broadcast.
00:09:36Arvind, a very good morning to you.
00:09:37Good morning.
00:09:50Thank you very much.
00:10:20Thank you very much.
00:10:50It was a concerning case that came to light on Thursday itself, the details of which let us take you through as to what exactly happened and the aftermath.
00:11:00Yes, investigations definitely continue.
00:11:02But firing outside Kapil Sharma's newly inaugurated Caps Cafe in Canada, Surrey.
00:11:07Now, multiple bullets were fired by a gunman from a car at the cafe and while no injuries were reported, India today has learned that 12 rounds were fired.
00:11:17As you can see in the visual that we bring to you, owned by comedian Kapil Sharma.
00:11:21The restaurant was opened last weekend in the heart of Surrey and bullet marks were found on the cafe's facade as well as on nearby residential buildings.
00:11:30A forensic investigation is in fact currently underway as well.
00:11:33Now, Babar Khalsa terrorist Harjeet Singh Ladi has claimed responsibility for the shooting outside the cafe.
00:11:40Ladi is on NIA's most wanted list.
00:11:44In the statement claiming responsibility, Ladi has said that anti-Nihang remarks were made during the Kapil Sharma show and that they hurt religious sentiments.
00:11:53Ladi has also claimed that his attempt to contact Kapil Sharma's manager were ignored and he demanded a public apology from the comedian.
00:12:02Ladi is on NIA's most wanted list.
00:12:32Ladi is on NIA's, the New strategy.
00:12:33Ladi is on NIA's, the location of Kandita has been aimed at Kandita from Canada's endpoint.
00:12:35Ladi is on NIA's and in Canada's, the camera's building was opened on the inspection.
00:12:36So, this is one of the purpose of Kandita's people who started working, which were working and working at Kandita's office in Kandita.
00:12:41Her coverage of Kandita's ämni, are known as Kandita comes to Kandita.
00:12:42The studio in Kandita was created, the company was created in Kandita's department of Kandita.
00:12:47Now we're shifting our focus to another story.

00:20:46that the attack at least Ladi after claiming responsibility for the attack has said that it was due to
00:20:51sick sentiments that was in fact hurt during a particular show of couple Sharma there were certain
00:20:59comments made that it hurt sick sentiments and which is why he's carried out this very attack there is a
00:21:05lot that has gone down in this very story so far but let's first quickly bring in Aseem Basi into
00:21:10conversation at the very top of this bulletin to get to know the latest details Aseem latest details on
00:21:17this very probe if you can take us through them well there's a cafe called Caps cafe which is a new
00:21:24venture of capital Sharma he's a renowned comedian and his cafe was attacked by Sadeet Singh Ladi who is
00:21:31a who is on the NIA wanted list and he's a BTI Baba Carl science master uh terrorist who also has the
00:21:37war on his name uh basically the this confirmed that the attack has happened on the property and the
00:21:42people were inside the cafe when this happened in Surrey and it is also known that the
00:21:47suspects uh they came in a car and they and they didn't inspiring while sitting inside the car
00:21:53only I will tell you this not the first instance in the past also be it Karan Ojla be AP Dhillon
00:21:59be it other celebrities who have their properties or their businesses from reference in Canada have
00:22:04been attacked have come under attack so it is learned that uh Ladi had made a post that he was upset that
00:22:12some uh some of the episodes of Kapil Sharma show showed uh uh Nihang's in a bad portrait they portrayed
00:22:20Nihang uh as a he mocked over the basically the attire of the Nihang which made Ladi upset so as of now
00:22:28there's not been any arrest definitely but yes Ladi has taken the responsibility of this firing which
00:22:35has taken place at Kapil Sharma's cafe called Caps cafe in Surrey Canada right Azeem uh thank you for
00:22:43filling us in with those very details we will keep a track of how the investigation indeed unfolds but
00:22:49right now viewers let's also tell you what exactly went down in this very story that we are reporting to
00:22:56you about firing outside Kapil Sharma's newly inaugurated Caps cafe in Canada's Surrey now multiple bullets
00:23:03were fired by a gunman from a car at the cafe while no injuries were reported India today has learned
00:23:10that 12 rounds were fired now owned by comedian Kapil Sharma the restaurant was opened last weekend in the
00:23:18heart of Surrey bullet marks were found on the cafe's facade as well as on nearby residential buildings
00:23:25a forensic investigation is currently underway Babar Khalsa terrorist Harjeet Singh Ladi has claimed
00:23:31responsibility for the shooting outside the cafe Ladi is on NIA's most wanted list let us tell you in the
00:23:38statement claiming responsibility Ladi has said that anti-Nihang remarks were made during the
00:23:44Kapil Sharma show and that they hurt religious sentiments Ladi also claimed that his attempt to
00:23:49contact Kapil Sharma's manager were ignored and demanded a public apology from the comedian
00:23:56these are the latest details that we bring to you in this very story let's quickly take a look at some
00:24:02reactions that have come in so far so I'm in Surrey BC here here at Cap's cafe which was shot up last night as you can see
00:24:09uh there's you can see ABCDEF eight or nine bullets um and then some glasses is fully uh shattered in and you can see the glass on the floor here
00:24:22so this is a cafe owned by Kapil Sharma who's a very very famous Indian comedian has a Netflix show um beloved by
00:24:31that's right he's not a political guy um and he's from uh you know Punjab uh now what happened is last night around 1.50 a bunch of bullets were fired into here and the staff were still here according to Surrey police
00:24:45now this followed a posting on social media from a member of the Barba Kasa International if you know them uh that is a group the Barba Kasa that did the bombing of Air India 182 killing 100 and uh 300 sorry 29 people two also in Japan in a secondary bombing
00:25:00they were listed terrorist organization Canada and one of their members posted that he was offended by a joke that um the guy had made and because a Kalistani terrorist was offended by the joke then someone did this
00:25:12now people are talking maybes as part of a larger extortion racket and and linked to different crimes uh here and there like maybe we we do know that there's been a rampant
00:25:21speed of all different types of organized crime and transnational crime and foreign interference and all that throughout Canada um but here um we have
00:25:29uh a member of uh a member of a listed Calistani terrorist organization who again was part of the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history he's mad at a joke that someone in India makes so there's shootings in Canada in Surrey BC um it's crazy now at least uh it's getting some attention the mayor of uh Surrey is here uh Brenda Locke she's uh come and I think there's MPPs here so the community is actually shaken by this and it seems that there is a police investigation
00:25:56and again we we don't know exactly who did it but whoever did it did post on social media was quite happy with what they did so is this a gangster extortion racket that's flexing their power or is this a um religious or political vengeance from a Kalistani terrorist organization
00:26:11we don't know yet uh but we'll find out more at least there's some uh conversation going on about what's happening hopefully this isn't just swept under the rug like everything else in this country

00:29:26He is Germany-based gangster.
00:29:56He is Germany-based gangster.
00:30:26He is Germany-based gangster.
00:30:56He is Germany-based gangster.
00:31:26He is Germany-based gangster.
00:31:28At this point, viewers, we are also picking up some more breaking news that's come in.
00:31:32This is the first reaction that we are bringing to you of the Caps Cafe.
00:31:36Remember, that is the very cafe that's being discussed at this point.
00:31:40There is a reaction that's come in from them after the attack.
00:31:42They have to say that they are troubled by the attack, but that they will not be giving up.
00:31:48The cafe opened to spread warmth and joy.
00:31:51They've also said, let's stand firm against violence.
00:31:54These are the first reactions, the first few remarks that's been made by the Caps Cafe right after the attack.
00:32:02In the aftermath of this very attack that we are speaking of, that's taken place in Surrey.
00:32:07Remember, we've been telling you that this Caps Cafe, which is owned by Kapil Sharma, comedian Kapil Sharma, opened.
00:32:14And it was inaugurated just last week amid huge celebrations.
00:32:19But yes, as Gagandeep, who has also joined us at this point from Surrey itself, has been telling us that people, especially Indians in Canada at this given point, are scared.
00:32:29They are living in fear for the simple reason that, yes, any sort of achievements that are marked, any sort of achievements that are celebrated, any milestones that are achieved or celebrated or in fact highlighted in the public, they feel targeted post that.
00:32:48And that indeed is a cause of concern at this given point.
00:32:52We've seen how India-Canada ties have been tensed over the past couple of years, especially under the regime of the previous Prime Minister Trudeau.
00:33:01And now we see a new Prime Minister who has taken charge, Mark Carney.
00:33:06We're waiting to see, while yes, he has said that such elements, pro-Khalistani elements need to be designated as terrorists.
00:33:13We're waiting to see if there is action, real action that translates on the ground while we speak or while we witness such comments coming in from the Prime Minister himself.
00:33:25But yes, right now, the big news that we're picking up is the first reaction from the Caps Cafe.
00:33:29Just to take you through what has been said once again, they're troubled by the attack, but won't give up.
00:33:35The cafe opened to spread warmth and joy.
00:33:37Let's stand firm against violence.
00:33:43Gagandeep, we'll come back to you, but we're also being joined by Daniel Boardman, journalist from Surrey, Canada.
00:33:51Daniel, welcome to the show.
00:33:53Thank you for speaking to us.
00:33:54I remember we'd spoken somewhere around two, three weeks back.
00:33:58And I remember you clearly mentioning that let's not jump the guns to speak about India-Canada ties,
00:34:05or more importantly, let's not jump the guns in terms of whether this government actually ends up taking action on the ground
00:34:13when we speak of such elements.
00:34:14While, yes, they're designating these groups or these elements as terrorists, it's too early to say.
00:34:20And now, just a few weeks after that conversation we've had, we see this attack.
00:34:25Yeah.
00:34:26So this is going to be the first major test of the Kearney government to see if they are different than the Trudeau government on this issue.
00:34:33I think it has happened in the Trudeau era.
00:34:38You know, this would get blamed on – Trudeau would probably blame Modi or something for this attack and then, you know, vow to get justice on the victims.
00:34:47But this is the Mark Carney government, and Mark Carney has made signals that he wants, or at least is trying to smooth things over with India.
00:34:53But this is where the rubber meets the road, as we say here.
00:34:57It's easy to shake hands at a G20 summit.
00:35:01It's easy to go out and say, you know what, coexistence and business and something, something.
00:35:06But we've allowed a radical – a huge radical faction of Kalistanis to take up root here.
00:35:13And this is the core issue driving the tension between Canada and India.
00:35:18And it's going to come to a head now because we have a member of a banned terrorist group, Barbara Kalistan International, taking credit for the shooting, saying he was offended by a joke that a comedian in India made.
00:35:30So he's shooting – so that they shot up a business in Surrey, Canada.
00:35:34And this is – again, this is a huge test because, as we see, allegedly, Kalistan should be an Indian issue, right?
00:35:41They want to break off the Indian part of Punjab and turn it into their own state.
00:35:45But when one of their terrorists declares sort of an international fatwa in a way, the violence happens in Canada, not in India.
00:35:54In Surrey, B.C. is where their anger and ire is taken out because that seems to be where they hold most sway and influence.
00:36:02So you have the Kalistani organizations going out here that – he made the threats, right?
00:36:09We have someone from the Barbara Kalistan International taking credit for this, but the defense is we don't know.
00:36:17He didn't say that he was a member of the Barbara Kalistan International while taking credit for this attack.
00:36:23He said his motivation was his offense and religious offense at a joke that was made, and this was revenge for hurting his sensibilities.
00:36:31And the Kalistani organizations here say he didn't explicitly say anything other than that, that his motivations were Kalistani or linked to the Barbara Kalistan International.
00:36:43They could have been – he could have been doing a Hindutva, Hindu nationalist, Modi something-something, Lawrence Bishnoy gang.
00:36:50That could have been his motivations instead of what he actually said.
00:36:54So this is the game that Canada – that is sort of being played right now.
00:36:58You have the Kalistani narrative, which is, oh, this is just part of a string of wider things, and it's part of some Indian government conspiracy, versus are we going to actually look at – there's a man who took credit for this attack.
00:37:12Are we going to at least look into him?
00:37:15Is this – if someone takes credit for a crime that is publicly posted, actually takes credit for it, are we going to make this person the prime suspect?
00:37:23Thus treating the investigation with some seriousness?
00:37:26Because, again, it might have been a proxy.
00:37:27It could have been a massive coincidence.
00:37:29Maybe it was a fake – who knows?
00:37:31There could be a lot to it.
00:37:32But if we're just going to pretend that this is part of some larger crime network and we have to shake our heads and kick rocks and try and figure out where this came from instead of looking at the man who publicly took credit for the attack,
00:37:44then I would not be too bullish on India-Canada relations and proving because if India sees that, okay, on paper we might be able to sign some deal,
00:37:56but any business we do in Canada can be essentially protested violently by some Kalistani lunatics,
00:38:05what's the point of even trying to negotiate with Canada if anything you try and build on the Canadian side of the border is going to be attacked by members of the Barber Castle International and defended by their people?
00:38:19Right. Daniel, let me just begin by saying, before I proceed with my next question,
00:38:24that when we speak of Harjit Singh Ladi, he is a declared terrorist.
00:38:29He's, in fact, one of India's most wanted terrorists and he is at the top of our NIA, the National Investigating Agency's list.
00:38:37So that is one thing that India has made amply clear that he is a designated terrorist that we're speaking of here.
00:38:43Now, when we speak of these attacks that's taking place, it's not an isolated incident that we're seeing in Canada.
00:38:49My question to you is, what is, even at this given point for that matter, stopping the Canadian government from taking action?
00:38:58We've seen almost 24 hours will have passed in a few more hours and yet we see no arrests.
00:39:06I understand what points you're making with regards to, yes, it needs to be looked at in the larger picture as well,
00:39:11but yes, there is no action that's been taken even as of now against the gunmen out there,
00:39:17those who were actually involved in the very attack in front of the very cafe.
00:39:22There are videos that have come to light, but then we don't see much of police action or at least no outcome coming from that action taking place.
00:39:31Yeah, I'm willing to give some grace to the Surrey police and the RCMP a little bit because we still,
00:39:38this is still like the first day of the attack.
00:39:40You have to track down some social media.
00:39:42You're going to prime suspect.
00:39:42Like it could be another, you know, listen, if they were some within 48 or even 72 hours,
00:39:48or at least have a prime suspect because you have a lot of this on camera.
00:39:52And again, when I was on the ground covering it and looking at the destruction,
00:39:56the mayor was there.
00:39:59There was also an MLA from the BC Conservative Party, a local MLA was there.
00:40:05And some Canadian media was actually there covering it.
00:40:08So this story will be hitting Canadian media.
00:40:12It has made effect.
00:40:14It has ruffled some feathers.
00:40:15So there is some buzz and noise on this.
00:40:18And remember, we do have the CSIS report now that does state that there is a faction of violent
00:40:24Kalistanis using Canada as a base to do harm against what they perceive as Indian interests here and India's.
00:40:31So the ingredients for a potential arrest are there.
00:40:36And I'm willing to not jump the gun and, you know, say, oh, nothing's going to happen.
00:40:43Because, you know, we're still in day one.
00:40:46This happened, you know, actually, you know, it's July 10th here, right?
00:40:51It still happened the morning of July 10th.
00:40:53And we're still on the exact date of July 10th in BC.
00:40:56So I think you can give the police another 48 hours.
00:41:03And if there's no arrest, because, again, someone took credit for this and you don't want to jump the gun.
00:41:07It's reasonable for the police want to get all their sort of ducks in a row, so to say, before making an arrest.
00:41:13But, again, this is what we're saying is this guy is one of India's most wanted terrorists.
00:41:20He's actually part of a terrorist group in Canada as well.
00:41:22The Barbakalsa is the ones who blew up Air India Flight 182.
00:41:27There were people in the restaurant at the time of the attack.
00:41:30If this was actually motivated by the Barbakalsa, a listed terrorist group and their motivations, this is a terrorist attack on Canadian soil.
00:41:38This is a very realistically a very good possibility that this was a terrorist attack, Calistana terrorist attack committed on Canadian soil.
00:41:46So if the police are taking this seriously, they can take 48 hours to get their ducks in a row and make some arrests.
00:41:53But if they want to stare at the sky and then pretend this is the most complicated thing ever and they can't look into it because it could be all different types of things and nobody knows and no one has any idea.
00:42:05And we're just going to, you know, defer to the Calistani sympathizer and organizations.
00:42:12Well, then I think it would be legitimate to start complaining and this would be a repeat of the Trudeau administration.
00:42:18So I get India's point of view, like Canadians have done nothing in the last 10 years has been very pro-Calistan.
00:42:23We've then had a bit of a shift since Mark Carney's come in, but he's still a liberal.
00:42:28He was still involved in the Justin Trudeau government.
00:42:31And this is the first major test.
00:42:32So there is no history.
00:42:35This is Mark Carney's history on the Calistan issue.
00:42:38This is his first test.
00:42:39We will see what he does.
00:42:41Parliament's in recess, but the mayor is on the ground.
00:42:45So the mayor is on the ground.
00:42:46The provincial governments are involved and this will go all the way to the federal government.
00:42:50Right.
00:42:51Because again, there's a terrorist involved.
00:42:54Absolutely.
00:42:55Daniel, you know, thank you for putting that into perspective and also putting forward what exactly is happening in Canada
00:43:02at this given point.
00:43:03But, you know, the most concerning part of this point is even today we are indeed circling around the conversation
00:43:09that if at all the police ends up taking action.
00:43:12That is, that still remains to be a rather sensitive matter that in India-Canada ties
00:43:19and also I would say a rather sore point when we speak of these ties.
00:43:23But yes, thank you for joining us on India Today and bringing forth your perspective to the table.
00:43:28With that, viewers, as we speak of this very attack, let us also tell you that this is not the first time
00:43:36a celebrity has been on the K-Thug's radar.
00:43:39Let's take you through some of these celebrities.
00:43:422025, as of today, it is the attack that we see on Kapil Sharma's shooting, on Kapil Sharma's cafe,
00:43:48a shooting that's taken place at the Caps Cafe in Surrey in Canada.
00:43:51But again, going back to 2024, this was in Vancouver, Canada, AP Dhillon firing at Dhillon's residence itself
00:44:00that had taken place.
00:44:01Again, in the year 2023, Vancouver, Canada itself, Gippy Graywall, shots were fired at Graywall's house.
00:44:09So these are consistent attacks, one after the other, consecutive years that we have seen such attacks take place,
00:44:152023, 2024, 2025. The question still remains, when will there be a full stop or at least some action
00:44:23that's being taken on the ground for Indians to feel safe in Canada?
00:44:27A story that's coming in now, developed, that's coming in now from the state of Maharashtra.
00:44:32Complaint against Raj Thakere and MNS.
00:44:35The lawyer has written to Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah against the MNS.
00:44:40The complaint is, in fact, it's been lodged, seeking to denotify MNS from the EC.
00:44:48Complaint states that MNS is promoting enmity between groups.
00:44:52MNS is creating law and order problems in the state.
00:44:56This is the latest that we are picking up.
00:44:58And at this given point, we have Vidya joining us from Mumbai at the very top of this segment of the bulletin.
00:45:04Vidya, a very good morning to you.
00:45:06This is the latest we are picking up.
00:45:08A complaint that's been filed, not just to the police, but also now it's coming against Raj Thakere and the MNS
00:45:16to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister himself.
00:45:20How are we looking at this?
00:45:22I'll show you a good morning to you.
00:45:23But this is, yes, a complaint that is also lodged, apart from the Prime Minister's Office
00:45:27and the Home Minister's Office, to the Election Commission of India,
00:45:30asking for, you know, and stating that since the MNS has come into power existence,
00:45:36they have been trying to create enmity between the society,
00:45:40dividing the society on the basis of language, on the basis of region, and many other issues.
00:45:48And that's the reason pointed out, speaking that the party and its, you know, recognition should be denotified.
00:45:58Right, Vidya, thank you for bringing us those latest details on this very complaint that's been filed.
00:46:03We will await details in terms of how this develops further.
00:46:07But right now, viewers, that's all that we're picking up from the state of Maharashtra
00:46:11based on the recent developments that's taken place,
00:46:14the attacks that's been taking place in the state in the name of language war.
00:46:24Moving on now, we are bringing to you a story from Punjab next.
00:46:29Punjab Chief Minister has mocked Prime Minister Modi's recent foreign trips.
00:46:33While addressing the media, Bhagwant Maan has said that the Prime Minister is visiting nations like Magnesia and Galvestia,
00:46:40suggesting that these visits are not substantial.
00:46:43Not just that, Bhagwant Maan went a step further
00:46:45and also questioned the relevance of Prime Minister Modi's visit to the countries
00:46:48with tiny populations, quipping that back home 10,000 people normally gather to watch a JCB roll.
00:46:55The Ministry of External Affairs has now stepped in, meanwhile,
00:46:57hitting back, calling the comments irresponsible and regrettable.
00:47:01It has also distanced itself from the comments made,
00:47:04stating that such remarks undermine India's relations with friendly nations.
00:47:08The Prime Minister recently concluded a landmark five-nation tour
00:47:11where he visited Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia from July 2nd to July 9th.
00:47:19During this very tour, Prime Minister Modi was also conferred with the highest civilian honours
00:47:23by Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil and Namibia.
00:47:26Let's take a look at what exactly has been said by Bhagwant Maan
00:47:29before we look at reactions that's also coming on it.
00:47:32The Prime Minister came here.
00:47:34The Prime Minister just said that,
00:47:35Is that the city from Ghana?
00:47:35Where is it?
00:47:36Yes!
00:47:37Is it coming?
00:47:37Yes!
00:47:38Yes!
00:47:38Will you come?
00:47:39Yes!
00:47:39Come on!
00:47:40Yes!
00:47:40Let's get back!
00:47:41Let's get back!
00:47:42Let's welcome in the country!
00:47:43Let's go!
00:47:44Let's go!
00:47:44Let's welcome in the country!
00:48:16With that, Aseem Bossi joins us with the latest developments on this very story.
00:48:44Aseem, do help us understand.
00:48:46This is comments that's come in from the Chief Minister and then we see counter-comments being made to the Chief Minister's remarks by the Ministry of External Affairs itself.
00:48:58But you know, when a Chief Minister of a certain state within the country ends up making such comments about the Prime Minister's tour, it shows rather poorly, especially when we speak of India's foreign relations.
00:49:10Yes, definitely. This is avoidable and should have been avoided by Chief Minister Bhagwan.
00:49:14Because in the past also, this is not the first time, he's mocked the Prime Minister's in the past also, even during Operation Sindhu or after Operation Sindhu also, he's made some comments.
00:49:24And yesterday, he categorically said that Prime Minister is going to the countries which are very, very less populated and he's getting honours from there.
00:49:32And the population is so less that the people gather here to watch a machinery like JCP, like 10,000 people gather here.
00:49:41So, and he also said that the Prime Minister should think about the one particular nation, which is India itself, and other things, which is, I think, should have been avoided by the Chief Minister Bhagwan.
00:49:52And this is the reason that the MEA has come out strongly and made a mention that these comments are very unfortunate and should be regrettable.
00:49:59because they also say that it shows a poor light when it comes to the international affairs and it has distanced itself from these kind of comments.
00:50:09But yes, a person who is sitting at the position of a Chief Minister, head of a state, should avoid this kind of, should have avoided these kind of comments because the MEA has taken strong note of it.
00:50:20Thank you for bringing us all those details and putting it into perspective for our viewers.
00:50:26We will keep a track of how this develops further, politically speaking, at this given point.
00:50:35With that, viewers, we're now shifting our focus to a disturbing story that's come to light from the state of Haryana, specifically from Gurugram, a state-level tennis player.
00:50:44Radhika Yadav has been shot dead by her own father in Gurugram.
00:50:48And what was the reason behind it?
00:50:51She used to make Instagram reels.
00:50:53The victim was shot dead at around 10 a.m. in her house in Gurugram.
00:50:57The police have arrested the man now.
00:50:59According to police sources, Radhika wanted to become an influencer.
00:51:02But her father, Deepak Yadav, was upset about his daughter making reels and posting them on Instagram.
00:51:08In agitation, he has fired five bullets at his daughter, three of which hit her.
00:51:1225-year-old Radhika was a renowned state-level tennis player who had won several competitions.
00:51:18She also, in fact, competed in various national and international tournaments.
00:51:23Let's quickly take a look at where the investigation stands as the police gives in their reaction on this very matter.
00:51:30Before we proceed with more details from our report on.
00:51:33The investigation was reported that the police reported that the police were killed by three bullets at the same time.
00:51:41And the accused of the brother of the police will be fired.
00:51:47And the allegations of the brother of the police will be fired.
00:51:51The accused of Deepak was about 49 years old.
00:51:55Himantalu Mishra joins us from Gurugam, in fact from the very location
00:52:22where this entire incident unfolded.

00:56:00Those are the details we are given to understand at this given point.
00:56:04Yes, it is a disturbing instance, but we are still awaiting all statements at this point of time
00:56:10to understand what the motive is.
00:56:13Were there any other reasons behind this very tragic murder case,
00:56:17a chilling murder case that's taken place and investigations continue?
00:56:21We will bring you all the updates as and when they unfold.
00:56:24With that, viewers, we are now shifting focus to a state down south.
00:56:33Tamil Nadu, yet another instance of Pulus assault in Tamil Nadu, has now come to light.
00:56:37In the wake of the custodial torture and subsequent death of Ajit Kumar in Sivakasi,
00:56:42several disturbing videos have been depicting alleged Pulus brutality
00:56:47and they have surfaced on social media from various parts of Tamil Nadu itself.
00:56:52One such video, in fact, has surfaced from Ukadam, showing a group of policemen
00:56:56possibly pulling a man out of a white BMW following a heated struggle,
00:57:01post which the cops proceed to assault him, striking him with lattes
00:57:05and slapping him repeatedly in full public view.
00:57:08However, another video has emerged where the man identifying himself as Abu Tahir
00:57:13has given a different explanation for the incident.
00:57:15The alleged driver in the viral video claims cops were holding drunken drive checks
00:57:19and that he had no issues with the police
00:57:22and that a compromise was reached between them.
00:57:49There was a number one saying who's got a camera in front of his body.
00:57:52But of course, I know more or less about the problem at the time,
00:57:54with a situation like that he was going through the incident.
00:57:55They all protested through the media.
00:57:57Part of his video was still there.
00:57:59It was the third person who came through the state.
00:58:00THE MEASUR
00:58:00with that viewers we are now shifting focus to the neighboring state of Karnataka as we're picking up
00:58:11breaking news coming in deadlock over the MLC nominations in Karnataka deadlock continues over
00:58:17the MLC nominations and appointments to board and corporations last night meeting between
00:58:21Surjewala and CM DCM could be finalized a full list one more sitting is needed is what we are
00:58:28learning now Surjewala is to reach Bangalore again on July 16th and is likely to then finalize the
00:58:34very list this is the latest that we're picking up on the very MLC lists the nominations that in fact
00:58:41has witnessed a major and massive deadlock over these are the preliminary details that we are in
00:58:47fact given to understand after the meeting that's taken place Surjewala is yet again to visit Bangalore
00:58:53on July 16th and then it is likely the list is likely to get finalized with that we have Nagarjun
00:58:58Dwarkana joining us on the broadcast Nagarjun very good morning to you what are some more details and
00:59:03highlights that have come in from the very meeting the deadlock still doesn't seem to have come to an
00:59:09end even after this very meeting another meeting is required is what we are learning good morning
00:59:15last evening Surjewala chief minister the deputy chief minister met in Delhi to discuss the four
00:59:21nominations of MLPs in Karnataka and also the appointment for the boats and corporations in the
00:59:27remaining boats as well the meeting could not conclude because all the three of them could not
00:59:33come to a consensus on the names is what we are told it could not be completely fulfilled and hence
00:59:39Surjewala is most likely to come back to Bangalore on July 16th to have another meeting with
00:59:44both CM and DCM and then conclude the MLT list as well as the boats and cooperation appointment this
00:59:50is like the third time this is happening or already CM had announced a list few months or a month back
00:59:56but it was stopped by the Hikman and hence Surjewala felt that the MLT nominations will have to be run to
01:00:02Kharge as well as Rahul Gandhi before it's made public and finalization will happen most likely in the next week
01:00:08thank you for bringing us all those details Nagarjun yes all eyes remain and continue to be fixed on
01:00:16these very lists that are still witnessing a deadlock but another meeting is required is what we are
01:00:22learning to finalize this very list that is still awaited the MLC nominations that we are speaking of
01:00:29in Karnataka moving on to some more breaking news coming in and this is from the pole bound Bihar now 66%
01:00:44of the work of submitting the forms filled in the role revision in Bihar is complete 66.16% counting forms
01:00:53have been collected under the special intensive revision of voter list that is the SIR before the
01:01:00Bihar assembly elections while 15 more days are remaining in the last date for submitting these
01:01:05very forms the SC declined to stay the Bihar voter survey remember yesterday itself the SC had given
01:01:12this order the Bihar voter survey is to continue the court did not grant a stay on the voter list revision
01:01:18despite petitions which were challenging the EC's decision in concerns about the timing and procedure
01:01:23with elections due in November with that we have Aishwarya Paliwal joining us on the broadcast to
01:01:27bring us more details into this very breaking news that we are now picking up Aishwarya very good
01:01:32morning to you 66.16% of the form filling seems to have already been done it's completed but yes we
01:01:40saw a big relief that came in for the EC that has been conducting this very revision in the state right
01:01:47ahead of the polls just take us through some more details that we are picking up about the very process
01:01:51that still is underway hi good morning you know let me tell you just to look at the number 66.16% now
01:01:58this is from the total voters that the state of Bihar has which is close to 7.90 crores one thing that
01:02:05the election commission has been speaking about here is the fact that this is a very smooth sailing despite
01:02:10what the opposition parties have been claiming if you go on the ground you will understand that both the
01:02:14BLA that is the group level agents which have been appointed by the political parties the BLA that is the
01:02:19group level officers appointed by the election commission they are all working very very hard
01:02:24the next 15 days will be very very crucial or from what the commission is at the moment looking at
01:02:29over the next 15 days they expect close to 99 to 100% forms will be done also one of the small things
01:02:36that the election commission has now clarified adhaar card epic number card in some of the cases have in
01:02:40fact been taken by the BLA so that's also something that the election commission is now saying that it
01:02:45should be a smooth sailing all that the commission at the moment is looking at is to make sure that
01:02:49there is a clean electoral rule clear electoral rule that one has in the state of Bihar right
01:02:55ashwarya thank you for bringing us all those details into this very story yes it has been an important
01:03:00story that to write ahead of the Bihar polls that we are speaking of one that has been gaining momentum
01:03:06within the domestic arena itself and in fact to bring you more details on this very story the top story
01:03:12let's tell you the supreme court on thursday took up the petitions challenging the special revision of
01:03:18voter list in Bihar now the court in fact went ahead to ask many questions and made some suggestions
01:03:23during the hearing itself but it allowed the election commission to carry on the exercise
01:03:28setting a very important precedent especially when we speak of the constitution of india and how
01:03:34elections are conducted in the country here is a report by anisha mathur take a look
01:03:38the supreme court asked pointed questions made suggestions but did not order any stay on the
01:03:48special intensive revision of the voter list being carried out by the election commission in Bihar
01:03:53the two judge bench of justice sudhan sho dhulia and justice joy malia bakchi took up the petitions
01:04:00filed against the electoral roll revision on thursday the court asked if the election commission has the
01:04:07powers to conduct a citizenship exercise the bench said it was not questioning the authority of
01:04:13election commission to revise voter lists the judges asked if there is enough time for the extensive
01:04:19exercise and if documents like adhar ration card water id card can be included the court wanted to know
01:04:27how the election commission will ensure due process and give a hearing to those excluded from the list
01:04:33it also asked why not dealing the sir exercise from the bihar assembly elections giving a longer
01:04:40timeline for the revision and suggested that the draft rolls may not be published for now
01:04:46the election commission vehemently opposed all suggestions the court made many observations
01:04:54during the hearing justice dhulia said who has documents in this document starved country
01:05:00even i won't have birth certificate the court said the home ministry deals with citizenship proof
01:05:06it added that a disenfranchised person will be compelled to enter into rigmarole of providing
01:05:12citizenship the court observed that once the electoral rolls are finalized and elections notified
01:05:18no court will touch the petition of someone removed from the electoral rolls
01:05:23the petitioners argued the exercise will affect the poor and marginalized the law doesn't allow removal
01:05:32from voter list without detailed objections and hearing they claimed the election commission is
01:05:38forcing voters to prove rights while the law calls for the state or an objector to give proof the petitioner
01:05:45said an en masse disenfranchisement can't be allowed and that the government's own data showed that the most
01:05:53people don't have birth or school documents on the ground the situation was very different because
01:05:57the insistence was on to produce one of these eleven documents and with the data that is coming from
01:06:03bihar large number of people did not really have those kind of document so even though the sir itself
01:06:09has not been stayed but the the basis on which we were saying that a large number of people could be
01:06:16excluded that basis has today been a lot to a large extent effaced by the supreme court the election
01:06:24commission opposed the petitions it said that almost 60 percent forms are already in and officers are going
01:06:30door-to-door the poll body reiterated adhar is not proof of citizenship it is looking at citizenship identity
01:06:38age and residence there is no intent to deprive people of their right to vote and claim that the
01:06:44commission has power to revise voter lists it assured that nobody will be deleted without hearing and due
01:06:51process MPs are filing their petition like mr. Jha is MP of RJD is filing the petition here but his
01:06:58political party has appointed 35,000 BLAs so inappropriate and I said to the court that I am seriously objecting
01:07:11to the maintainability of this petition for the reasons now the court has asked the election
01:07:16commission to consider certain documents the Commission will take an appropriate view on that
01:07:23the court noting that it is the responsibility of the EC to conduct regular revisions but also adding that there
01:07:32cannot be large-scale disenfranchisement of voters and that voters rights and the roots of democracy must be
01:07:39preserved with all of these questions and concerns the hope is that on July 28th the EC will return to the
01:07:46Supreme Court with some answers in New Delhi this is Anisha Mathur for India today
