Donald Trump's firm stance on Washington's NFL team name is receiving high praise from one prestigious Native American organization, which told TMZ Sports this week it agrees the moniker should have never been changed.

00:14It all happened when a reporter asked the president about Washington's football team.

00:18The commanders changed the name back to Redskins.

00:20They are now the commanders. They used to be the R-words. The Washington R-words.

00:25Way worse.

00:26Congratulations. You took something already offensive and somehow made it way worse.

00:31They used to be called the Washington Redskins.

00:33Correct. So, would the president change it back?

00:36I would. I wouldn't have changed the name. It doesn't have the same ring to me.

00:41And apparently, some indigenous people agree.

00:43So, we reached out to the Native American Guardians Association, which I kid you not is NAGA?

00:49And no, he's not kidding.

00:51So, what did NAGA say about MAGA?

00:53The vice president, Frank Blackcloud, said that Trump's comments actually validate what Indian country has been saying for years.

01:01He says the old name was never a slur.

01:04It was a symbol of strength, honor, and pride for the American Indian people.

01:08I found it interesting. This is not a monolith.

01:10It certainly offends certain Native Americans.

01:13But I take him at his word that others saw it as a source of pride.

01:17The important thing is we're really getting to the bottom of this years after it happened.
