00:02The EU's Ursula von der Leyen meeting with Mediterranean leaders in Rome agreed on the

00:06need to reactivate the Team Europe initiative with a new delegation of the European Commission

00:11to redeploy to Libya to tackle the ongoing migrant crisis.

00:15The meeting, which also featured Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Italian Prime

00:20Minister Georgia Maloney, and Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abella, was held on the sidelines

00:25of the Ukraine Recovery Conference.

00:27The leaders agreed to bolster efforts to crack down on the surge of migrant boats arriving

00:32at European shores, largely originating from Libya.

00:36The Commission delegation will also be accompanied by relevant ministers from Greece, Italy, and

00:41Malta.

00:42They will redeploy to Libya to hold talks with authorities on the worsening crisis after the

00:46previous mission was expelled from the country.

00:49Greece says it's been intercepting boats carrying hundreds of migrants daily along its shores,

00:54all of which originate from Libya.

00:55Athens has introduced emergency measures to tackle the surge in migration, recently announcing

01:01a suspension in asylum processing for migrants from North Africa.

01:05A spokesperson for the European Commission says Brussels is committed to helping its member

01:10states address the crisis and will offer all support necessary to combat what they called

01:15an exceptional situation.
