00:41French authorities raided the headquarters of the far-right National Rally Party,
00:45probing alleged violations of campaign finance laws.
00:52Judges at the European Court of Human Rights have found Russia responsible of human rights abuses
00:57in what is the first international recognition since the start of the war.
01:02The case was brought forward by Ukraine before the top European court's governing body
01:06moved to expel the Kremlin following the launch of its all-out war in Ukraine.
01:11The court also ruled that Russia was behind the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
01:16That, too, was the first time an international court has found Moscow responsible for the 2014 incident.
01:24The Boeing plane was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down by Russian missiles,
01:29killing all 298 passengers, of which 196 were Dutch.
01:34Judges at the top European court are set to rule on a total of four cases
01:38brought forward by the Netherlands and Ukraine against Russia.
01:41The decisions are expected to be largely symbolic.
01:51Russia has fired a massive barrage of drones and missiles against Ukraine overnight,
01:56the largest offensive since it launched its full-scale invasion.
02:00Ukraine says the Kremlin fired more than 700 projectiles targeting mainly the western city of Lutsk.
02:06The barrage featured Shahid-type drones as well as crews and aeroballistic missiles.
02:11Ukrainian air forces say they've shot down almost 300 drones
02:15and were able to intercept over 400 others using electronic jammers.
02:20All seven cruise missiles were also intercepted by Ukraine's air defenses.
02:24Ballistic missiles, however, did manage to strike their targets.
02:27Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky says Moscow's attacks highlight their unwillingness to end the war.
02:33He's called on allies to ramp up pressure on Russia to force them into peace.
02:37Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his latest meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump
02:47focused on efforts to free Israeli hostages.
02:50Trump has ramped up the pressure on Netanyahu to move towards a U.S.-backed ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip,
03:16where he described the conditions as hell.
03:18The plan includes a 60-day pause in fighting, more aid and the release of hostages.
03:25Israel and Hamas are holding indirect talks, but both sides remain far apart on the terms of lasting peace.
03:33So far, a breakthrough remains out of reach.
03:36Law professor Alberto Alemano said EU Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen will be left weakened,
03:48regardless of the result of a no-confidence motion in the European Parliament on Thursday.
03:53More and more citizens will be asking, wow, she should be the person negotiating a trade deal
04:05with the Trump administration affecting the European economy.
04:09She should continue having a seat at the table in the Ukrainian-Russian peace talks, which are on and off.
04:17In other words, many more people are going to be questioning whether she's the right person for the job
04:23in these incredibly difficult geopolitical circumstances in which the Union tried to speak with one voice.
04:33Alemano said the vote of no confidence will constrain von der Leyen's ability
04:38to control the EU Parliament during the rest of her mandate.
04:42...of military trucks rolling through Bergamo at night...
04:46I don't necessarily expect Ursula von der Leyen to come away with this vote,
04:51even if it is rejected, the motion strengthened.
04:55No, I think that if everything goes well, she will stay where she is.
05:00That means being increasingly scrutinized by all political parties,
05:04both from the far right and the center-left,
05:07and therefore her political margin will rather reduce as opposed to actually gain further power
05:12within the European Council.
05:15The motion was signed by 77 far-right MEPs who criticized von der Leyen for sending secret messages
05:24to Pfizer-CU about vaccines for allegedly mispending recovery funds and financing of NGOs.
05:31German Chancellor Friedrich Merz received NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Berlin on Wednesday
05:42as Germany celebrates its 70th anniversary of joining the alliance.
05:47Both Merz and Rutte underlined their commitment to Ukraine
05:51and said that the priority is to bring about a ceasefire with Russia as soon as possible.
05:55The NATO Secretary General said that Europe is not producing enough military supplies
06:00and welcomed the increase in defense spending the Allies agreed to a couple of weeks ago in The Hague.
06:07Germany is expected to take a leading role within the alliance.
06:11As tensions between France and Germany mount over fighter jets,
06:15Merz said discussions are ongoing but highlighted that the project could be a good collaboration
06:19between France, Spain and Germany if they can reach an agreement.
06:24Rutte also spoke about China's ambitions and said World War III could occur within the next three to seven years
06:30with Russia being able to launch a full-scale attack against NATO territory
06:34to keep Europe busy whilst China attacks Taiwan.
06:38As global conflicts continue to heat up, NATO has been making big promises in terms of military and defense expansion.
06:46But can it deliver?
06:48Liv Stroud, in Berlin, for Euronews.
06:54French authorities raided the headquarters of the far-right National Rally Party on Wednesday
06:59as part of a probe into alleged violations of campaign finance laws.
07:03The Paris Prosecutor's Office said the investigation is examining whether the party used illegal loans
07:09to finance its campaigns between 2020 and 2024.
07:13The investigation concerns possible acts of money laundering and the use of forged documents
07:18during their 2022 presidential and 2024 European election races.
07:23The National Rally's President Jordan Bardella called the action a new harassment campaign.
07:29He said armed forces stormed the party building on Wednesday morning
07:32and seized emails, documents and accounting data.
07:36The party has surged in popularity in recent years,
07:38becoming France's largest single parliamentary party.
07:42The raid comes about three months after the party's co-founder and de facto leader,
07:46Marine Le Pen, and other officials were convicted of embezzling EU funds.
07:50The recent surge in illegal migration to the island of Crete
08:01has led the Greek government to take stricter measures to tackle the problem.
08:07On Wednesday, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced after a meeting
08:12with Minister of Migration Policy Thanos Plebris a series of emergency measures to deal with the crisis.
08:17The Greek government will temporarily suspend the processing of asylum applications
08:23for migrants arriving from Africa, initially for three months.
08:27The second decision is to establish one or possibly two permanent closed detention centers
08:44for migrants on the island of Crete.
08:49Mitsotakis also said the government's discussions with Libya are ongoing.
08:52He also warned that the Greek armed forces are willing to cooperate with Libyan authorities
08:59in order to prevent boats from leaving from Libya.
09:01The Greek government will send a message to the government of the Netherlands
09:05that the government will close and close and close and close and close
09:10and close to all the legislators to the countries.
09:12And close to all the operators.
09:15And close to all the public employees.
09:19And close to all the businesses.
09:23The concerns that the money that they demand will always be lost, because it will be much
09:34harder than what it was until today, to be able to reach Greece due to the flood.
09:43The Greek Premier's remarks were made after more than 2,000 migrants landed on Crete since
09:47the weekend.
09:50The Mediterranean country has seen a spike in illegal migration recently, with more
09:54than 60,000 believed to have arrived last year, a 25% increase from 2023 figures.
10:06In a shocking European Parliament plenary session, it's been decided that far-right climate skeptics
10:12are to lead efforts on the EU's climate targets for 2040.
10:16The Patriots for Europe group have been given the capacity to draft a text which intends
10:20to question the aims of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90%.
10:24The group, which includes France's national rally, Hungary's Fidesz and Italy's league parties,
10:47have long been critical of the European Green Deal. The Parliament's ecologists believe that,
10:52given this role to the far right, threatens the credibility of the European Union and its
10:56climate commitments.
10:58It means that, very likely, we will not have a law on climate and the targets to bring
11:03to the Belem's Cup, and that we will be very, very weak in a series of negotiations.
11:09We will not be leaders of this Cup, we will not decide the climate ambition in this
11:14conference of the parties, and all this, unfortunately, is because of the People's Party.
11:19The People's Party, who, yesterday, did the extremist right to take the leadership, the
11:26relationship on climate law?
11:28While the Patriots group will have a definite influence on the discussions, it will not be
11:35able to prevent the other groups from reaching an agreement on the final text.
11:38.
