Three people were killed when monsoon rains triggered flash flooding in a New Mexico village, sending walls of water, mud and debris rushing down mountainsides that have been repeatedly scarred over recent years by wildfires and post-fire flooding.

00:12Oh, my gosh. We can confirm that three people lost their lives yesterday in the flooding.

00:20And the victims include an adult male, approximately 40 to 50 years old,

00:26that we're still identifying, a seven-year-old male child, a four-year-old female child.

00:34This is historic water levels that we experienced.

00:38The USGS, the United States Geological Survey, gauge at Hollywood.

00:43And the real ruid also crested at a historical high of 20 feet.

00:49Last year, during the historic flood, it was over 15 feet.

00:52The flash flood was issued at 8 a.m. on July the 8th.

00:57The flash flood warning was upgraded at 2.20 p.m. on July the 8th.

01:03The flash flood emergency was declared at 2.47 p.m. on July the 8th.

01:10So, as you can tell, it came on pretty sudden.

01:12The outdoor warning system was not activated yesterday as it is specifically reserved for full-town evacuation scenarios.

01:23We had a lot of questions on that.

01:25The localized nature of yesterday's flooding did not warrant a full-town evacuation.

01:31Rescue operations.

01:33The swift water rescues.

01:35Our emergency responders conducted approximately 65 swift water rescues during yesterday's event.

01:41We continue to monitor the weather condition closely with the National Weather Service, and there is additional risk.

01:49We expect the weather to build from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, with the critical areas hitting between 1 and 4.
