Kerr County Sheriff's Office Captain Discusses Search And Rescue Operations Following Flooding

At a press briefing on Wednesday, Kerr County Captain Jason Waldrip spoke about searching debris for survivors following devastating flooding in Texas.

00:00This time I brought a couple of the guys, I was going to let Captain Jason Waldrop say a few words.

00:04Jason has been in the field, hands on deck this whole time.

00:07I haven't been able to get out of here a lot, there's a lot to manage here.

00:10He's actually witnessed several things.

00:12He's kind of going to give you a few ideas and updates on what's going on on the field,

00:17where he's been and what he's been seeing.

00:19And then we'll turn it over to Sergeant Jack Land.

00:21Captain Jason Waldrop.

00:30So the sheriff just wanted me to kind of give you all an update on some of the things that we as the sheriff's department can do.

00:36One particular thing that we have done in order to help assist in locating the missing

00:41is we've coordinated a team with a local construction company, the Texas Department of Public Safety,

00:49some fire departments from within Kirk County, a fire department from Acuna, Mexico.

00:54And we are looking and searching the deeply impacted flood debris along the river.

01:00So these areas are where a lot of this debris is bottlenecked.

01:04So it's a lot of large trees, it's a lot of vehicles, it's a lot of home structures that built up in these areas.

01:10So we are using very heavy equipment, excavators, skid loaders,

01:14to remove this mineral and do a deep impact search where this is.

01:19So what we ask is, for those who are out there working, the local residents, the families of the missing,

01:27even some of the search teams, if you see these very large excavators working, please avoid these areas.

01:34We are trying to control these work sites.

01:36We have spotters on the ground.

01:39So as the material is being removed, we are looking for anything of a sign of a person that may be within this material.

01:46These operators have very limited vision with these large excavators.

01:50So please avoid these areas that they're working.

01:54We're still spotting areas up and down the river where we can take apart these materials and hopefully locate some ones missing.
