Flash flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains swept through the mountain resort village of Ruidoso, New Mexico, on July 8, trapping dozens in homes and vehicles and washing away an entire house, according to state emergency officials.
Eyewitness video, verified by Reuters, captured the house being carried off by the flood-swollen Rio Ruidoso. While no deaths or injuries were immediately reported, emergency teams—pre-positioned by local law enforcement and the National Guard—conducted at least 85 swift-water rescues.
The incident follows deadly flooding along the Guadalupe River in Texas just days earlier, which left at least 109 dead and many more missing.
