00:00Mexico's Attorney General's Office begins the investigation into an alleged bribe to
00:04former President Enrique Peña Nieto in the case of the Israeli spy software Pegasus.
00:10The Attorney General, Alejandro Gertz Manero, informed that a formal investigation has been
00:15opened against Peña Nieto for an alleged bribe of $25 million related to the operation
00:21of the Pegasus espionage software during his government.
00:24In addition, he pointed out that all the information about the alleged money delivery will be
00:29requested to Israel as part of the International Cooperation Agreement in Legal Matters.
00:35The indictment against Nieto states that Pegasus was sold to several Mexican institutions,
00:40among them the former Attorney General's Office, the Ministry of National Defense, the now defunct
00:46Center for Research and National Security.
00:49President Enrique Peña Nieto.
00:55Effectively, since the beginning of the previous administration there have been allegations
01:03that have not been corroborated with sufficient evidence.
01:07In this new case we have specific, clear and very precise reports of relations with companies
01:14that sold Pegasus.
01:20Even the former President had already given an answer.
01:24Of course we have already opened a file, and we are going to ask the Israeli authorities,
01:30that this information they provided on social media be included in our files so that we can move forward.
01:41Our relationship with these authorities has not been easy.
01:45We have had many problems that practically came up since what happened in Ayotzinapa,
01:52and we have cases of people detained there for several years.
01:56I hope that in this case we have a faster response.
02:02In her daily morning press conference, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday that
02:07her government will not protect anyone involved in the fuel theft which is being investigated
02:12by authorities.
02:16We will go as far as the investigations go, as far as they go.
02:22We are not going to protect anyone, anyone.
02:28Even if there are public servants involved, or rather, public officials involved.
02:34Or entrepreneurs involved.
02:36We must have proofs.
02:38But we have to eradicate completely this crime.
02:44We made progress during the government of President Manuel Lopez Obrador.
02:48But there are still things.
02:50We are going to work on them.
02:53We are working with a lot of discretion and unity to continue the investigation with the
02:57information that is being generated.
03:00We are working with a lot of discretion.
