00:00Roman Starovoit, 53, had served as Russia's transport minister since May 2024 until his dismissal on Monday.
00:10Russia's top state criminal investigation agency said the body of Starovoit was found in his car with a gunshot wound.
00:18A spokesperson for the agency said investigators see suicide as the most likely cause of death.
00:24Russian media have claimed that Starovoit's dismissal could have been linked to an investigation into the embezzlement of state funds allocated for building fortifications in the Khrushka region.
00:36He served as the region's governor before being appointed cabinet minister.
00:40The alleged embezzlement has been named as one of the reasons behind deficiencies in Russia's defensive lines that failed to stem a Ukrainian incursion into Khrushka in August 2024.
00:51An official order releasing Starovoit from his post was published on the Kremlin's website on Monday morning.
