Bristol City Transfer Latest: Struber continuing to make progress on deals

00:00now it was a whirlwind season for Bristol City

00:04obviously kicking on and reaching the playoffs

00:06for the first time in 17 years

00:08under Liam Manning

00:09an amazing campaign in the end

00:11obviously it did have its slight downfalls

00:14when it came and they crashed out in the playoffs

00:17in that first sort of semi-final

00:19against Sheffield United

00:20but then also the case of Liam Manning

00:24leaving the club

00:25and Gerard Struber coming in

00:27big expectations

00:28big sort of weight to carry now

00:30because Manning showed with this group of players

00:33that they can get to the playoffs

00:35and that's certainly going to be the objective going forward

00:38they've made a few signings already

00:40on a free and moving carefully with the budget

00:43as we previously spoke about

00:46they're a side that are constantly treading water

00:49in the championship in terms of the budgets

00:50in terms of the financial fair play rules

00:54in the second tier as well

00:56so Dan our Bristol correspondent

00:58Dan what's your thoughts on Bristol City

01:01where they are in the transfer window

01:03at the moment

01:03is there more hope to come

01:06from the remainder of the window

01:07is there more sort of ambition

01:11shown by this ownership pair

01:13or will it sort of prove to be the reason

01:15that Liam Manning left the club

01:17and departed the way he did to Norwich City

01:19so Dan was the latest you can tell

01:21there's incomings, outgoings, players

01:23that the Robins are linked with this summer

01:26and hopefully can make an addition to this side

01:29Well Charles I think we've already made abundantly clear

01:32that Bristol City's most important transfer this summer

01:35will be Gerhard Struber

01:36their new head coach

01:37I think the fact that when Liam Manning left

01:39they were left in this position there

01:41where they needed someone brand new

01:43to come in and take up the reins

01:44and build upon the foundations

01:46that Manning had left

01:47in getting Bristol City into the championship

01:48but also heal some of the hurt

01:51because of course Liam Manning

01:52wasn't just departing for any club

01:53he was departing for Norwich City

01:55who of course

01:56let's be honest

01:57are a direct rival

01:58in terms of wanting to progress

02:00and be perhaps promoted in the championship

02:02to the Premier League next season

02:04so it was a bit of a body blow

02:06for Bristol City to lose Liam Manning

02:08but not just to lose him

02:09but to lose him to a club like Norwich

02:11who obviously yes

02:12Norwich have a more recent history

02:14of being in the Premier League

02:15compared to Bristol City

02:16but it still wasn't nice

02:19because of course you're losing him

02:20to a team who at the moment

02:22who at present

02:22it would appear

02:24have perhaps

02:24according to Manning at least

02:26or you'd think

02:26according to him

02:27or at least he felt

02:28as if it perhaps had a better

02:30outlook and future

02:31which is something a bit

02:32you could argue

02:33is a bit damning

02:34for Bristol City

02:35so that's a real bit

02:36of a body blow

02:37but they've responded well

02:38of course they've brought

02:39Gerhard Struber in

02:40and the chairman

02:41John Lansdowne

02:42has said that he's the perfect fit

02:43for the club at this stage

02:44and wanting to create the synergy

02:46between academy and youth products

02:47as well as the first team

02:49now as well

02:49and creating this pathway

02:51from the academy

02:51to the first team

02:52but also focusing on the first team

02:54at the same time

02:55and bringing in players

02:56who are already made

02:57for that first team

02:58and not just having

02:59academy products

03:00and youth pushed

03:01all the way through

03:02there's this good balance

03:03of yes we'll create that pathway

03:05but also we'll bring in players

03:07who we need here and now

03:08and they've done that so far

03:09in this transfer window

03:10they've brought in Joe Lumley

03:11a goalkeeper

03:12with Premier League experience

03:13they've also brought in

03:14Emile Roos Jacobson

03:15from Preston North End

03:16a striker with a lot of

03:17championship experience

03:18having played

03:19most recently

03:20for Preston North End

03:21in the division

03:22and actually

03:22played against Bristol City

03:24just last season

03:25on the last day

03:25of last season as well

03:27when Bristol City

03:27just about

03:28scraped into the playoffs

03:30under Liam Manning

03:31so they're going about

03:32it in the right way

03:33Gerhard Struber

03:34has certainly got down

03:35to business already

03:36on the training field

03:37as well

03:37as pre-season has been good

03:39lots of players

03:39describing it as intense

03:41so far

03:42and of course

03:43that's to be expected

03:43in pre-season

03:44but that's also what you want

03:45from a new head coach

03:46coming in

03:47to set himself

03:48onto the squad

03:49and make his mark

03:50he doesn't just want to

03:51let players get away

03:52with everything

03:52and have an easy ride

03:54coming back into pre-season

03:55Bristol City

03:56have got a job to do

03:57and they want to do it right

03:58and so the players

03:58need to buy into

03:59what Gerhard Struber

04:00is doing

04:01and also

04:01Gerhard Struber

04:02needs to understand

04:03his players as well

04:03so it's a bit of a

04:05you know

04:05man management

04:06coaching

04:06fitness

04:07tactics

04:07the lot

04:08so I think we have to

04:09certainly be clear

04:10that Gerhard Struber

04:11is the most important

04:12signing

04:12Bristol City

04:13will make this summer

04:14but

04:14whether he proves to be

04:15the correct signing

04:16and the perfect fit

04:17as the chairman
