Daniel Wales looks at the latest Leeds United transfer news.
Transcript
00:00Now, it's no secret what the ambition will be for Leeds United
00:04and Daniel Farker's side is to remain in the Premier League.
00:08And if you look at the three promoted sides,
00:10you do sort of think Leeds, out of any of them,
00:12is going to probably have the biggest chance, the best chance to do so.
00:15They've got that investment.
00:16They've got that heavy squad depth and squad quality as well.
00:20I mean, you have to look at the other side as well.
00:22If they weren't to get promoted,
00:24it would have been a sort of massive crying shame for them
00:27and the investment that they've put into this side.
00:30I mean, you have to look at the number of young talents
00:33they've got throughout this side as well
00:35and exciting players that can really, really make an impact in the Premier League.
00:39And they're going to hope that's certainly the case.
00:42You know, they've obviously let go of a couple of players,
00:44but they have been in talks with a number of top assets,
00:48top names with plenty of Premier League experience.
00:50And I feel that's probably going to be the biggest part of all of this
00:54is whether they can get players who come in,
00:57who've got experience in the top flights
00:58and can help them stay up, you know,
01:01and then maybe they can build in the future.
01:03But, you know, first case scenario is to ensure
01:06they are a Premier League club next season,
01:07which is a mammoth task, to be fair to them.
01:12Dan, our Yorkshire correspondent, Dan Wales.
01:14Over to you, Dan.
01:15What's the sort of latest in terms of Ellen Road,
01:18in terms of incoming, outgoings?
01:20Where you see Leeds competing this summer?
01:22Is there any updates you can tell us that Leeds fans
01:24can maybe get excited for because the challenge ahead
01:28is incredibly daunting?
01:30And I'm sure that the Ellen Road faithful are excited,
01:33but sort of worried as well,
01:35knowing the record of relegation candidates
01:37over the last couple of seasons.
01:39Well, Charles, Leeds have certainly been busy
01:41in the opening weeks of this season's transfer market
01:44so far in the summer.
01:46They've brought in three permanent signings,
01:48although things have calmed down slightly
01:49in the last few days.
01:51There's been no new arrivals
01:52since Sebastian Borneau came through the door
01:55at Ellen Road.
01:56But, of course, he joins his former Wolfsburg team-mate,
02:00Lucas Nemecha and Jakar Biol,
02:02who arrived from Udinese.
02:03So, Leeds have been busy bolstering their front line,
02:05bringing in Nemecha, of course,
02:07because he's a striker who himself has said
02:09he wants to score goals and add goals
02:10to this Leeds United team in the Premier League.
02:12And also, they have strengthened their defensive line
02:14by bringing in Biol and Borneau as well.
02:18Certainly two big and physical defenders
02:21who they will hope can dominate strikers
02:24in the air and on the ground
02:25when it comes to playing in the Premier League
02:27in the season to come.
02:29So, Leeds have been busy,
02:30but things have calmed down a little bit
02:32in the last few days, as I say,
02:34since Borneau came in.
02:35But you can only imagine
02:37that they've still got more business to do.
02:39Daniel Farker certainly wants a fully bolstered squad
02:43ahead of the Premier League season,
02:44so he can prove not only to the rest
02:47of the watching football world,
02:49but also I think to himself
02:50that he can cope
02:51and he can manage well in the Premier League
02:53because, of course,
02:54his CV does feature relegations
02:56with Norwich City,
02:56but he has made abundantly clear
02:58that was because he wasn't backed
02:59at Carroll Road.
03:00So, he's had some backing so far
03:02at Ellen Road after this promotion,
03:04but I think he'll want even more as well.
03:06Certainly, he'll want additions
03:08in the full-back area
03:09with Junior Firpo departing the club as well.
03:12You could also argue
03:13they still perhaps want even more goals.
03:14Nemecha, yes, is a good start.
03:17They have Joel Perreault,
03:17who, of course, is not Premier League proven,
03:19but was the Championship's top scorer last season.
03:21They've got Patrick Bamford as well,
03:22who, yes, is Premier League proven,
03:24but is also injury prone.
03:26So, you have to imagine
03:27he won't be able to last the full season
03:29or certainly not a lot of consecutive parts
03:32of the season at least.
03:34So, I think they'll still be additions
03:37or at least parts of the squad
03:38they'll look to bring in as well.
03:40And then you think,
03:41well, do they need a goalkeeper?
03:43Quite possibly,
03:44because, of course,
03:45the end of the season last year
03:46with Carl Darlow,
03:47who does have Premier League experience
03:48with Newcastle United,
03:49but that was a good few years ago now.
03:51And then, of course,
03:52you've got Elan Melier,
03:53who was Leeds' first choice,
03:54but after a number of mistakes
03:56last season in the Championship,
03:57ultimately was dropped for Carl Darlow.
04:00So, I'm not entirely sure
04:01he'll get his position back
04:03because of those mistakes,
04:04especially when you're moving up a level
04:06going into the Premier League
04:07from the Championship.
04:08It seems unlikely that Melier
04:10would get that position back
04:11and it's whether they think
04:12Carl Darlow is still good enough
04:13for the top flight as well.
04:15Certainly, as Wales' number one keeper,
04:17he'll probably think he is,
04:18but it's whether Daniel Falker
04:19would like someone
04:20with a bit more Premier League experience
04:21or at least more recent
04:23Premier League experience
04:24or someone who has played
04:25at the top flight somewhere
04:26in Europe perhaps as well.
04:28So, that could be one to add.
04:29And then you think,
04:30do they need another midfielder?
04:31And then that's perhaps
04:32maybe not so sure
04:32because they do have an abundance.
04:34You look at, obviously,
04:34Ampadu can play there.
04:36You've got Tanaka,
04:36you've got Ilya Gruev,
04:38certainly a lot of players
04:38who can play in those roles.
04:39But I think Leeds United,
04:40their transfer business
04:41is certainly not finished yet
04:43for this summer.
04:44end of our new year,
04:45so, for this summer,
04:46because I knew about
04:47you and I was setting up
04:48as a girl from幫忙
04:48of what happened to me.
04:49And I'd like to feel
04:50that she really didn't applicate
04:50in to be able to look
04:50in the 1930s.
04:51But since he's from other experiences,
04:53you've got to be able
04:53to develop a story
04:54because he does not have
04:55an alarm that could be
04:56quite high for you
04:57than somehow
04:57as she wants to keep
04:59as well.
05:00For somewhat
05:01and as someone
05:03as someone
05:04as someone
05:05as someone
05:06as someone
05:08as someone
05:09as someone
05:11as someone
