07 July - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, a return to high pressure, drier, sunnier and hotter weather is on the way, but overnight we've still got some showers and those showers are progressively going to move south across the UK, pushing through Northern Ireland, parts of Wales, the Midlands and more especially Eastern England where these showers will be heavy with thunder and lightning and merging to give longer spells of rain as they clear the southeast during the early hours, but they will eventually clear by a notch to lead to a clear end.
00:30to the night with temperatures dipping to 8 to 13 Celsius typically. So a fresh start to Tuesday, but actually a widely sunny start. Just some showers there for eastern parts of England. They're tending to fizzle through the morning and early afternoon, but Norfolk and Suffolk could keep seeing showers well into the afternoon. I think for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland it's brightest at the start of the day before thicker cloud returns into the afternoon with some outbreaks of rain for the Western Isles and northern parts of Northern Ireland.
01:0018 to 19 Celsius here. Low to mid-20s further south and southeast where we get widespread sunny skies. And that's really the start of the next increasingly warm or even hot spell in many places.
01:15But we do see some cloud drift eastwards across Scotland into northern England, parts of Wales as well, as well as Northern Ireland overnight and a few spots of rain and drizzle here and there.
01:27That's a weak weather front that's pushing south as high pressure builds in from the south and that means that the cloud and the outbreaks of rain will tend to fizzle away during Wednesday.
01:38But we do start with the cloudier skies across northern and western parts of the country and some drizzly rain for Western Scotland in particular.
01:47Otherwise, brighter skies are developing across England and Wales in particular and eventually Northern Ireland.
01:53One or two showers couldn't be ruled out across, say, parts of Wales into Wednesday afternoon.
01:58Otherwise, it looks like as the sunshine redevelops, temperatures will rise another degree or two compared with Tuesdays, 25 to 27 Celsius in some of the warmer spots across central and southern England.
02:10A little bit cooler further north, but it's even here where we get some cloud breaks feeling pleasant enough with temperatures into the low 20s.
02:18Either way, the cloud and those light outbreaks of rain in the north and northwest will tend to push further north and eventually clear the UK entirely.
02:28High pressure builds from the southwest and that high pressure leading to widespread sunny skies during Thursday and Friday.
02:35As a result, temperatures will rise day by day.
02:39And in this hot spell, the highest temperatures are not especially going to be towards the east and southeast because we're going to see more of an easterly airflow.
02:47I think the highest temperatures will be towards western and northwestern parts of the UK with the high 20s and low 30s likely by Friday and Saturday.
