00:00The Tour de France 1991 in Valenciennes. It's the end of stage 5 and at the official
00:12podium ceremony there's one question on everybody's lips. Where is the yellow jersey? Unfortunately
00:19for Rolf Sorensen he was here in an ambulance receiving medical treatment after a late crash.
00:25Rolf Sorensen went down in the final kilometres. He landed heavily on his shoulder and dislocated
00:33his collarbone. He crossed the line on his bike and only then did we realise how serious
00:37the injury was. He's in a lot of pain and he can't hold his arm although we'll have to
00:42wait for the x-ray to be sure that he is out of the race. But when that x-ray arrived it
00:48showed that the left collarbone was fractured so game over for Sorensen. The Dane had been
00:53caught up in this crash when the peloton was just a few kilometres from Valenciennes.
01:01A few minutes later, Jela Nydam attacked in trademark style under the Flamme Rouge. Turbo
01:06Jela was a hard man to catch once he lit the after burners. The Dutchman following in the
01:10footsteps of his father Henk, a track world champion in the pursuit and winner of two tour stages
01:16himself. Nydam Jr denying the sprinters to take his sixth and final tour victory.
01:26But the stage was also marked by Sorensen's abandon and nobody would wear the yellow jersey
01:31the following day.
