00:04:31that really idolizes Chavez could be one

00:11:10All right, fans, here we go with the little big man of boxing, the WBC Strawweight Championship of the World, scheduled for 12 rounds of boxing.

00:11:27He enters the ring wearing black trunks and joins us all the way from Cebu City in the Philippines.
00:11:35He weighed in at the strawweight limit at 105 pounds, and his record includes 30 wins, only two losses, with 19 wins coming by way of knockout.

00:13:02So the WBC strawweight championship on the line.
00:13:07The champion, a solid favorite to make it 40 and 0, Ricardo Lopez, a man who packs a tremendous punch.
00:13:14But not a one-punch fighter.
00:13:15He relies on the accumulation of punches.
00:13:19Meanwhile, the challenger, Andy Tivanis, known as Mighty Might, a self-described boxer puncher, as most fighters like to label themselves, a straight-ahead fighter.
00:13:28Good, straight right hand, fast hands.
00:13:30Told us he prefers to fight taller fighters.
00:13:33He also said he feels he can punch as hard as Lopez and that he thinks he can knock him out.
00:13:38In fact, he told us he's going for the early KO and intends to keep the pressure on.
00:13:42But we shall see.
00:13:43He's up against a very, very tough and powerful strawweight champion.
00:13:51Both fighters have come out showing a good amount of respect for one another, not ready to mix it up too early.
00:13:55But Tivanis is a well-built little man.
00:13:58It's a big, little guy.

00:14:08His legs just did a trick on him then, and it's a good thing that he didn't land.

00:14:17It caused him a little consternation with his legs.

00:14:23Tivanis, named by Ring Magazine, is the strawweight most deserving of title shot.

00:14:28Lopez has said going in he'll use boxing technique and body shots.
00:14:42He does not go in looking for the knockout, even though he has such an impressive knockout ratio for anyway.
00:14:47He says KOs are circumstantial.
00:14:49You can't predict a knockout.
00:14:50But Lopez is working off his left hand beautifully, turning a hook in, jabbing, hooking off the jab, keeping Cabana's at bay.
00:14:58The only thing we haven't seen is that left hook to the liver that he claims he perfected at the hands of the master, Julio Cesar Chavez.
00:15:07Chavez in the audience here tonight, getting ready for his championship fight a week from tonight.
00:15:14Lopez says he does like to use the right hand, but he told us he's determined to be the best left hand
00:15:20in the business.
00:15:21A fighter is only as good as his left hand, he says.
00:15:25While people decry the fact that this guy can't get as famous as if he weighed a lot,
00:15:28let me remind the public, this is the only sport where a guy 105,
00:15:32you get to be a millionaire and known as a champion all over the world.
00:15:35This is the only sport where you fight a guy your same size,
00:15:37and that's something to be said for a boxing.

00:15:44Well, if he gets much smaller, he'll drop off the earth.
00:15:47I think the law of gravity won't affect him if he gets much smaller.
00:15:52Lopez is a real student of the game, too.
00:15:55He studies tapes of his opponents.
00:15:56He said he's very prepared for Tavonis' style.
00:15:59He realized that Tavonis likes to come forward, has a dangerous right,
00:16:03pretty good chin, very strong, like most Filipino fighters.
00:16:07He's fought three Filipinos.
00:16:09But the fact that Tavonis is a straight-ahead fighter should favor Lopez.
00:16:13Well, he's certainly not giving him any movement.
00:16:15He's standing right in front of him, and every time he eats a strong jab,
00:16:18he kind of falls back like it hurts.
00:16:20He seems to be blocking most of the shots, but he's not putting enough pressure on.
00:16:22He's not throwing enough punches to bend.
00:16:24He's waiting far too long.
00:16:26So as we head for the foul in this opening round,
00:16:28scheduled for 12 for the WBC's strawweight title.
00:16:31As mentioned, Julio Cesar Chavez working on the Spanish simulcast,
00:16:41doing a little telecasting of his own tonight.
00:16:43As Ferdi pointed out, a good friend of Lopez, they often compare notes.
00:16:47Chavez has served as an inspiration to Riccardo,
00:16:49giving him advice on the fight game.

01:01:04i could there's a pride factor involved but you know at the same time why risk is health
01:01:10when it comes to something like that you just take your graces and go home and fight another day
01:01:14you know when you go home to the philippines it'd be nice to say i went 15 rounds with this great
01:01:18champion a little bit different than i went to 15 seconds to the end but that's it that's the way
01:01:22it goes it's a 12th round knockout and i can't say that lopez didn't deserve it because he did
01:01:28a little uh badge of honor under the left eye of ricardo lopez let's take a look at some of the
01:01:34previous sections well here you see he's just he's the ultimate workman too he just
01:01:39timed me again with the left hook he makes tabanis duck right into it and this is the beginning
01:01:43of the end right here he just is too much for him he's hitting with everything steve tabanis is not
01:01:48offering up any offense completely passive defense here's another look at it again no offense
01:01:53whatsoever just trying to hide and last and finish and get hit clean with everything he was in trouble
01:01:59it was a good call and remember this guy can really punch lopez can really punch they were
