00:00In your Levi kitchen, you've got four consecutive third place finishes overall, so look, second place to that first moto, you had the pace to go out there and win.
00:09Hey, Deegan's kind of on the road, go out there, a lot of cooks in the kitchen, but the chef is here to cook it up today. Get it done, Levi.
00:17One rider who would like to have the second half of that first moto back is Tom Vial.
00:21He looked like he had everyone covered as he took the lead and pulled away.
00:24He said he didn't have the right lines and started to struggle in the second half.
00:29If he could right those wrongs, he could win this one, and maybe he could win the overall.
00:34We said that's the story of the day. Take advantage of the situation.
00:37Lots of riders going fast. Deegan a little bit banged up from that practice crash.
00:42Late in qualifying, and he's going to have the bad gate pick, although that's not too, too bad.
00:48Fourteenth. And a normal start. That's toward the middle. That's good, although the red bud start tends to favor the inside a bit.
00:54Yeah, with that star racing Yamaha power, he should have been able to make up that difference.
01:01Can Deegan come back? You know he gets motivated when anyone else tries to get the hook at him.
01:08Shimoda with the first moto win. Can Honda sweep red bud for the first time?
01:13What about Di Francesco, the fast qualifier? What can he do if he gets a better start?
01:18As he was rolling this morning. So many stories. Intersecting. Right now.
01:30Oh! Deegan got bumped. Shimoda's on the inside.
01:36Drag racing for it. Jalik swung with the whole shot of the triumph.
01:39Oh, nice move by Jalik. Joe was in that first corner at first, but had that, like, that tighter inside.
01:45Jalik swung around, and it's swelling up on him.
01:47Nice rod by Jalik Swole to get that whole shot.
01:50He's got his teammate, Jordan Smith, second, who almost never gets good starts in pro motocross.
01:55Triumph figured something out. Shimoda challenging. Oh, and Vial is down.
02:00Oh, man, Tom Vial. That's the second corner right there.
02:02So you wonder if he got bumped off the racetrack or was it an incident on him, but not the best start.
02:07Clearly, it's going to cost him here.
02:10Podium might be out the window now for Vial as the Triumph boys are 1-2.
02:15Kitchen has a good start, as does Hamaker.
02:18Yeah, but if I'm Levi Kitchen, I'm in a great spot.
02:22We see how aggressive Levi is already, so he's still firing from that first motor.
02:25He's going to slingshot around Joe on the outside.
02:28Woo! Makes it happen. Kitchen, second in motor, one third.
02:32Verdell, and he loves that corner.
02:34He's made a lot of passes through that section in motor one.
02:37Yeah, he has, and really because it's one of those corners that you can really just charge all the way down there.
02:42So it opens up. There is an inside-outside.
02:45Joe tries to square back underneath, thinks better of it.
02:48But, Joe, I'm good with him.
02:50I'm just kind of calmed down at this point.
02:52Just make sure you follow that number 47 up to the front,
02:55because Levi looks like he's heading towards there.
02:56Okay, here is the start, but Swole trying to find Vial on this mess here.
03:04Bunch of riders down.
03:05Oh, he was ahead.
03:06Oh, all the way to the other side.
03:07Yeah, I didn't even see what happened here.
03:09We're just looking at the battle on the inside,
03:11but for whatever reason, you can tell the way Tom's looking, he's looking ahead.
03:16Might have had some help there.
03:18Yeah, meanwhile, it was actually DeFrancisco stacked up on the inside going down JT.
03:24Yeah, I was watching it live, and then watched the replay there.
03:26He was actually near the top five.
03:27He got pushed into that wall as they're fighting for space there, then high-sided over it.
03:32So tough break for Vial, fighting for the overall here today.
03:35Actually had a good start and kind of ended up on his head for his troubles.
03:40Oh, and Kitsch and JT got off the track.
03:43No traction.
03:43He's down.
03:44Yeah, he saw Jett Lawrence railing those outsides, and that berm just fell away,
03:49and Levi was not letting off the gas.
03:51He just kept it going.
03:52But truthfully, the way his pace has been outside of Joe Shimoda,
03:56he might be able to get back on there, but that's going to be costly for Levi.
03:59Yeah, he had the overall in head at that very moment.
04:01He's right behind DeFrancisco.
04:04Nearly everyone has had a moment of great and terrible today at Redbud, except for Shimoda.
04:11What can Kitsch and do?
04:13You go down early in the races, you lose a ton of spots.
04:16He's 11.
04:17Yeah, it's definitely going to be costly for him, but the good thing is it's still bunched up.
04:21And that pace that Levi had, I mean, at one point he was going six seconds faster than anybody else,
04:26and how aggressive that he has been this whole moto since the second, third lap of that first moto.
04:33Levi might still have a shot at coming up here.
04:35He's on that sort of form this moto today.
04:38How about Jalik Swole and Jordan Smith?
04:43Swole is only two races back from a torn Achilles and back early and leading right now.
04:49Yeah, Jalik has been looking good ever since being back, and you just start to wonder, was it high point?
04:54Then he backs it up at Southwick, and then that first moto, solid finish, ends up sixth place.
04:59So Jalik is really solid and consistent so far coming back, and his conditioners look pretty strong to me.
05:06So very impressive, as you just said.
05:08Yeah, and honestly, his Southwick results should have been better.
05:10He actually crashed on the last lap and lost a ton of spots.
05:15He's fighting around the top five.
05:16Something has kicked off for this team because they're great off the start
05:22and now even putting distance between themselves and Shimoda.
05:26What?
05:27Oh, what?
05:29Jordan Smith off the track and into that monster side over there.
05:34Got tangled.
05:35I don't know how you get that far off the track.
05:38Oh, man, he had a great race going.
05:40I was just going to say they put some water on this track,
05:43and they put some water on these faces and these jumps,
05:45and these guys got to be careful when they're doing all the scrubs.
05:47And I bet you Jordan came out of this corner.
05:50Hayden Deegan makes his way up into fourth place.
05:54I bet Jordan Smith spun off the face of that jump,
05:57and he just took a left instantly.
06:00That was crazy watching that.
06:02So Deegan taking advantage of all that.
06:04He passes Handmaker and Smith off the track and down.
06:09He is in fourth.
06:09Now, again, the overall will be nearly impossible with the 14th in the first one.
06:15But he can salvage something here.
06:17He is seventh overall currently.
06:21Yeah, Hayden looks back to Hayden's style,
06:23and you can tell the way he came past that mechanics area.
06:25He's riding a little mad right now, so try to get it.
06:28Keep going.
06:29Will?
06:29I'm just going to add a little bit more backstory there
06:32to what you guys were talking about at the beginning of the race
06:35with Hayden Deegan and that injury,
06:37if that's what we thought we were dealing with there in Moto 1.
06:40It was described to us as more of a charlie horse, a dead leg,
06:42but I was talking to his dad, Ryan Deegan,
06:44and he said it turns out it was a little bit more than that
06:47to the point whereby he actually went to the Alpine Stars medical unit
06:51to get it x-rayed.
06:52He was worried that there was a fracture or something in it.
06:55That was negative.
06:57He does not have any kind of bone break,
06:58but they said it's just very, very deep bone bruising.
07:02And Brian was telling me, he's like,
07:03I've had that injury before,
07:04and it is incredibly hard to grip the bike.
07:07James, we know how important that is to kind of squeeze
07:09and keep that control over the bike,
07:11and he said he was struggling with that.
07:12You had that, and then that kind of sense of urgency
07:15and overrunning the bike that JT was talking about,
07:18and it was just a whole bunch of stuff just kind of rolling together.
07:20He said it expects you to see a calmer Hayden in this Moto.
07:23Yeah, and that makes sense, Will,
07:24because when he came down that, when he crashed,
07:27you know, in a lot of his corners, he was overriding.
07:30I wouldn't say overriding the bike,
07:31but when he was slamming in these corners,
07:32he was missing all the ruts,
07:33and as I said earlier today, there's about five ruts over here,
07:37so not only do you get cross-rider with one,
07:39you've got to go across all of them,
07:40and if you can't grip the motorcycle,
07:42the one area, the biggest area that you struggle is in corners and ruts,
07:45so not surprising to see if that's the injury.
07:48Hayden Deegan's struggling in those types of situations.
07:50Oh, and another rider down.
07:53Oh, that's Deegan again.
07:55I thought that was Moseman.
07:56Moseman's just ahead of him.
07:58It's Deegan with a tip over.
08:00Yeah, now in this situation, we saw Chase Sexton lose the front end,
08:03and Hayden does that,
08:04but what Hayden does, he was so comfortable the way he was riding.
08:07He had both feet on the pegs and just leaned into that corner,
08:10and both ends just start sliding.
08:12He goes down.
08:13Costly mistake.
08:14Not the end of the world, because it's still early,
08:16and he didn't lose too much time,
08:17but they see him coming in here, keep his feet on the pegs.
08:21Now he drops it off.
08:22Well, that one corner he goes down,
08:23he had them both on and just lost it.
08:25And look who got around him
08:26as Deegan hammers on the front brake of his motorcycle.
08:31DeFrancisco, great at qualifying, outstanding, fastest by far.
08:36Two bad starts, but he is up to fifth,
08:39and we might still see the 25, the Rockstar Gascots,
08:43on Corkut.
08:44There is time.
08:45Swole is leading.
08:47This is the first ever laps led for Triumph in Pro Motocross.
08:50He got a podium for that team last year,
08:52but didn't lead laps while doing it.
08:55Kinshin is in the mechanics area.
08:57Yeah, I was looking out the window,
08:59because I'm like, did we miss Levi?
09:01And we didn't, and that looks like a bike issue.
09:05Or no, he's kicking the front end,
09:06so he must have went down.
09:09Oh, man.
09:09Joe's in a perfect situation right now,
09:12taking advantage of the situation.
09:13You got both of these guys in the points, losing the points,
09:18and Joe just slowly coming up through here, making it happen,
09:21and Jaleek Swole is still out front doing his thing.
09:25Making it look pretty easy, and by the way,
09:27Shimoda would have the overall if he just stays here in second.
09:31So, will he go after Swole?
09:34Championship-wise, though, of course, it pays points for Moto.
09:37So, there's motivation for Shimoda to get it.
09:40But what a story by Jaleek Swole.
09:43Two races back from a torn Achilles.
09:45Yeah, and Jaleek looks good.
09:48And you can always tell when a rider, how they feel on a motorcycle,
09:51by how aggressive he is.
09:52And Jaleek, when he leaned in on Hayden,
09:54not that he did anything on that first moto,
09:55but that's the guy who wants to start up front.
09:57Second moto, like, he made it happen off the start.
10:00So, if Jaleek was coming back and he didn't feel comfortable,
10:04he wouldn't be that aggressive off the gate,
10:06trying to make sure he throws an elbow in on somebody
10:08to get the best starting position on that first lap.
10:11So, to me, it shows me that he's back,
10:13feeling good on that triumph, and it's showing today.
10:15And another triumph is there.
10:16It's Moseman is third.
10:18Harup, another teammate of Swole, is fourth.
10:21DeFrancisco fifth.
10:22And it's Deegan Boland, Gumer, Parker Ross,
10:25putting in another good run.
10:27He is ninth.
10:28The Toyota of Redlands, Bar X, Yamaha Hammocker
10:31has dropped to 10th on the Moscow Pro Circuit, Kawasaki.
10:34And DeFrancisco, as expected,
10:36now that speed showing itself in the race.
10:39He moves forward from fifth.
10:41Yeah, Ryder D, the first motor didn't go the way he wants,
10:44especially after that fast qualifying position.
10:46So, now he's got some opportunity.
10:48Hayden D is behind you.
10:49You can see the leader.
10:50They're not too far up there.
10:51So, let's see how it's going to work out for him.
10:54But you can hear that Yamaha in the background,
10:56that number one here in wide open
10:58as Joe is trying to get along Jalik now.
11:01Yeah, Joe's dealing with Moseman.
11:03And DeFrancisco is dealing with Deegan.
11:06DeFrancisco looking to make moves.
11:08And here's the move from Shimoda to the lead.
11:11Yeah, nice pass by Joe.
11:12He actually made a pass in the first motor like that as well.
11:15So, it's a good position to be in
11:18when you start to look at Joe and look out quickly.
11:20Michael Moseman.
11:21And you're starting to wonder,
11:23was Joe, was Jalik going back
11:25or was Joe picking up the pace?
11:26Because Michael was coming up, putting it on him.
11:28But nonetheless,
11:29things just starting to happen a little quick for Jalik.
11:31Just need to calm down.
11:32I would not count out Moseman
11:33of maybe taking this Moda win
11:35because, again, Shimoda doesn't have to beat him
11:37for the overall.
11:39And Moseman, top box is rolling.
11:41Bottom box is that Harrop-DeFrancisco-Deegan battle.
11:46Fourth, fifth, sixth.
11:46It's been a wild day.
11:51Yeah, no, it has been a wild day.
11:53And we've been talking.
11:53I like how Michael's jumping out over that bump
11:56where Joe's really settling in,
11:58just hitting all those bumps.
11:59Michael looks good.
12:00He's been riding good all year.
12:01We've been talking about a couple last lap
12:03or bike issues cost him for being on the podium.
12:05But nonetheless,
12:07good to see another star racing Yamaha up here,
12:09Michael, after that injury he had.
12:12Oh, yeah, we told the story many times.
12:13He was sent to retire after breaking his neck.
12:16And now he's back and back with a vengeance,
12:19looking to take the lead.
12:20DeFrancisco, meanwhile,
12:21battling in the bottom box, Will.
12:23And he must be so relieved, Jason,
12:26to be in this kind of position here in Moto2
12:28because after that incredible qualifying,
12:30topping the qualifying this morning,
12:32he just, as he gets, there we go,
12:35he gets it done,
12:36topping that qualifying this morning there
12:38and then having that disastrous start to Moto1
12:41was not what he wanted.
12:42He has said that this is by far his favorite track.
12:46And it kind of all surprised us.
12:47We were like,
12:48that sort of came out of nowhere.
12:49But the difference maker has been a move
12:51that he has made to Florida.
12:53This was only about three weeks ago.
12:55He was offered it by the team before
12:56to move to Florida.
12:57As we know, James and Jason,
12:59there's a lot more riders out based in Florida
13:01for them to ride with,
13:03to push that level.
13:04He declined before
13:05because he wanted to stay home with his family.
13:07They're West Coast based.
13:08This time he said,
13:09okay, if that's what I need to do,
13:11that is what I will do.
13:12He's been out there for three weeks
13:13and his family said about a week ago
13:15they were really starting to see that change.
13:18And it's coming around for him today.
13:20Yeah, no, that's a good point.
13:21And not only, yeah,
13:22there's more routers out there
13:23you can ride with.
13:24I mean, Joe's down there.
13:25A lot of guys are down there
13:26and they go back and forth.
13:27So I don't think it's the routers
13:28that's probably the biggest change.
13:29But one thing I will say
13:31is that the soil is a lot different.
13:32So he can probably replicate
13:34that race pace down in Florida
13:36because of the soil.
13:37They're able to charge a little bit more
13:38because there's a lot more grip than California.
13:40So maybe that's what's showing.
13:42And if you can have that intensity,
13:43it's going to help you in practice for qualifying.
13:45And maybe that's what we're starting to see.
13:48You know, what rider D out there.
13:49One guy who's got the intensity again
13:51is Hayden Deegan.
13:52He tries to go around McHale Harp
13:54on the Triumph 107.
13:56Hayden should be up the inside here.
13:58That's the corner where he crashed.
14:00Yeah, where he went down too.
14:01And he can see rider D starting to get away from him.
14:03So I would say this race is too far gone
14:06from Hayden as well,
14:07depending on how Joe starts reacting.
14:09He knows he has his overall wrapped up.
14:12Moesman is in position at the moment for second overall as well.
14:17Moesman has not won a moto
14:19since winning the first moto at his home track at Hangtown in 2022.
14:24And that, he hasn't had a moto podium since three years.
14:28We talk about the journey.
14:29He missed so much time with the injuries, concussions, the broken neck.
14:33Moesman riding well.
14:34Renaissance season for him.
14:36Deegan putting it back together today
14:38after the rough first moto
14:40and some troubles here.
14:42And Moesman is not letting Shimoda go.
14:45No, he's not.
14:47And I feel like if Michael just stays here,
14:49eventually Joe's going to realize that,
14:51all right, I got a pretty good gap on, you know, second place,
14:55which is Michael at this moment for the overall.
14:58So if Michael keeps putting his pressure on him,
15:00Joe probably will end up.
15:01I wouldn't say he led him by,
15:02but he won't fight him as it would be the overall.
15:05So Michael's key, just stay on Joe these next few laps.
15:08And then hopefully Joe goes in there
15:09and realizes that he's got this overall locked up
15:11and just, you know, hands you that position.
15:14And what a story that would be.
15:18Got to go back uphill here.
15:28Quietly, last couple of supercrosses for Moesman
15:31were very good.
15:32Led to momentum for outdoors.
15:33Near the podium in Hangtown.
15:35Ended up crashing late while going for it.
15:38Coulda, shoulda, woulda had the podium last week.
15:40It was bike problems that cost him in the first moto
15:42while he was running in second.
15:44So this type of riding has already been here.
15:47Now we're seeing the result.
15:49Yeah, I was looking at Michael coming down that hill
15:50where Hunter Lawrence crashed last year.
15:52And you can see that bike swapping, going down.
15:55And it wasn't a big one, but I know as a rider,
15:57he got to it like halfway down.
15:59He was just trying to hang on to it.
16:00But it ends up working out
16:01and just shows you how much is happening
16:03in a small amount of time.
16:06Shout out to Parker Ross here battling with Beaumare.
16:08This is 8th and 9th.
16:11Ross was good at Southwick as well.
16:14Rookie pro season for him.
16:15And he's showing some talent.
16:17The Toyota of Redlands, Bar X Yamaha.
16:19The Red Bull KTM of Beaumare.
16:21Started the year great.
16:23Said it was absolutely terrible in the sand,
16:25leading the Southwick while practicing it.
16:28Wasn't very good in the race either.
16:30A little bit better today.
16:31Yeah, well, I mean, all these guys are so young.
16:33They'll be better next year.
16:34We've seen Hayden Deacon hasn't even won a moto here.
16:37And look how dominant he is.
16:38So some of these places you got to figure out.
16:40And one thing with this racetrack,
16:41and especially these second motos,
16:43what makes it so tough,
16:44you see these braking bumps going down the hills.
16:46Like they start early on the hill
16:48and they just continue to get bigger and bigger.
16:50And the hard part is you're already going downhill.
16:53So the bikes come pressing.
16:55The bumps are getting bigger.
16:56And that's why when you see these guys,
16:57the bike starts bouncing and just continues.
16:59And then all of a sudden they get this jolt
17:01at the bottom of the hill.
17:02That's because the suspension is completely bottomed out.
17:04And because the bumps are so big here at Red Butt,
17:07you see that instant stop.
17:08And that's why we kind of saw what happened
17:09to Hayden Deacon that first moto as well.
17:11Oh!
17:13Instant stop of a different kind from Ross.
17:16He's trying to set Beaumare up.
17:20Yeah, Parker was trying to get out of that corner,
17:22maybe get that bike on the tire
17:23so he can start getting that drive.
17:25Going down those sand rollers, easy to happen,
17:27but it's a hard base underneath that sand slid out.
17:30And once you lose it in the roller park,
17:32can't tell on TV, but it starts going back uphill.
17:34So in these 250s, they lose so much time
17:36by making one mistake there.
17:38And you can see the gap that he's lost to Julian up here.
17:41And a mistake was made by DeFrancisco as well.
17:43He just ran a 228 lap.
17:46Race pace is in that 215, 216 range.
17:49And he has gone from fourth to seventh.
17:53Deacon's around him.
17:54Harrop's around him.
17:55And shout-out to Max Follin,
17:59the Club of X Muckoff Yamaha.
18:00He's got a good ride going in sixth.
18:03Yeah, Ryder D must have went down somewhere.
18:05I didn't see that one, so...
18:06Yep.
18:07There's Ross.
18:08And Villal, by the way, is into the points now.
18:10He's 19th.
18:11And Kitchin is out.
18:14Yeah, Levi Kitchin and Tom Villal
18:16is going to be kicking themselves
18:17because that could have been a good day in points,
18:19especially where Hayden is.
18:20And I feel like with Hayden,
18:22he wouldn't have given up,
18:24but I don't think he would have fought,
18:25especially after that first moto
18:26and what would have been happening.
18:27Those guys would have been riding the way it was.
18:29He would have been fine.
18:30Dylan Schwartz making moves here.
18:32Schwartz, third fastest in qualifying today.
18:35Had a good start in the first moto,
18:37but then crashed.
18:39I believe right around that same area
18:40Deacon did in this one.
18:41So now we're getting to see the speed.
18:43He's always strong at the end of the races.
18:45Ryder from Alpine, California.
18:47Avery Long, the rookie behind him at the AEO KTM.
18:52I was wrong.
18:52I said Kitchin was out.
18:53We saw him in the mechanics area.
18:55I thought it was done, but he is still there.
18:57He's 28th right now, Kitchin.
19:00Actually made a few passes.
19:03Yeah, I thought maybe he pulled off.
19:04I saw him go back in there,
19:05but still, he might as well be out
19:07until he gets in those points over here.
19:09But still, I think Levi,
19:10he's all about winning,
19:11and he knew he missed a huge opportunity
19:14and a mistake on his own here.
19:16Bummer for him,
19:16but he's got to keep trying his best.
19:18Battle now is between the teammates.
19:20Handmaker back to 13th
19:22after running up front early,
19:24and welcome back to the rookie,
19:25Drew Adams,
19:26who broke his finger at high point.
19:28Didn't raise Southwick.
19:29I asked him this morning,
19:31how's the finger,
19:31and he said,
19:32well, I got to use two fingers on the clutch now.
19:33Index finger's not so hot.
19:35So he's using two fingers on the clutch
19:37and otherwise riding okay.
19:38Got the handguards on the number 98.
19:40I ran two fingers on the clutch.
19:43Ain't nothing wrong with that.
19:44Okay.
19:44Yeah, no.
19:45But the way the points are right now,
19:47it would be nice to see Jalik Swole
19:48in third place for overall.
19:51Michael in second,
19:52and Joe, of course,
19:53would be winning.
19:53So if things stay the way they are,
19:55nice ride by Jalik,
19:57and Triumph and his teammate
19:58would be in fourth.
20:00It would be impressive, yes,
20:02because the Swole,
20:02even though he got the overall podium last year,
20:04didn't get a moto podium.
20:06Did it?
20:07At Unadilla,
20:08a couple of the riders had some bad luck.
20:10Now, in his defense,
20:10he had had podiums
20:12pulled away from him with bad luck.
20:14With 6.4 at that Unadilla race.
20:17This would be his first moto podium
20:18since Bugs Creek in 2023.
20:21He can get on the podium in the moto
20:22and for Triumph overall.
20:23That would be huge.
20:25Shimoda now pulling away from Moseman
20:28and working on the 1.1
20:29and the Honda Red Bud Sweep.
20:32Will.
20:34It's this time of the race, isn't it?
20:36It's Joe Shimoda.
20:37This is his time.
20:38He gets to that halfway point
20:40and he just starts to push.
20:42He's so good late in the race.
20:44And when I asked him about that earlier on today,
20:47he said at some point in the moto,
20:49it's not about speed anymore.
20:51What he meant by that
20:51is suddenly the endurance side of it,
20:53suddenly the fitness side of it takes over.
20:55He has a ton of trust in his fitness.
20:58I talked earlier on in the day there in Moto1
21:00how the team sort of believed it to be a genetic thing
21:03because they said he is really special in that area
21:06and now he's coming into his own.
21:08His mechanic, Ben Griffin, said,
21:09I haven't told him right now that he only needs second.
21:12I don't want him to think about it.
21:13I want him to focus right now on the moment
21:15and focus forward.
21:17He said that's when Joe works his best work.
21:20Well, Will, let's be honest.
21:21The points paid per moto.
21:22They wanted to win this
21:23because he's second in the championship.
21:25Score every point you can.
21:27What did we say, James?
21:28Take advantage of the situation.
21:29He's done it.
21:29Look at the points in the championship.
21:32He's cut it to 34,
21:34making up a ton of ground on Deegan today.
21:37Yeah, that's a huge, I mean, huge gain.
21:39And not only that, it just, I think for Joe,
21:41it just made me give him the belief
21:42that he can beat Hayden Deegan.
21:44We're starting to wonder, you know,
21:45I'm sure those guys want, could they do it?
21:48They talk about him in the interview,
21:49like, yeah, I'm getting my confidence.
21:51I got to have everything right
21:52because that number one is just in the zone right now.
21:54So maybe show something that it can't happen.
21:57And so far, Joe has been able to do it so far today.
22:02Back to Swole here in third.
22:03Again, to the first moto podium for Triumph.
22:07And I just cannot believe he's this good, this quickly.
22:12The Achilles was so bad
22:14as he's actually closing on Mosman now at high point.
22:16The first race back, Caste had jumped.
22:19Said he felt a whole bunch of pain in the ankle.
22:20He got scared.
22:22Turned out that was just breaking away some scar tissue.
22:25Probably helped, actually.
22:26Long run.
22:28But this is incredible.
22:30Torn Achilles.
22:31Thinking of coming up short and jumps
22:32helps the Achilles out, right?
22:34Unbelievable.
22:34Yeah, but it just turns out tough these guys are
22:36in that whole race thing.
22:38You can't imitate race because at home,
22:40you know, we're going to make sure
22:41we land softly on those jumps at home
22:43to not get that.
22:44Okay, so Deegan in fourth takes advantage of the mistake
22:49by DeFrancisco.
22:52It's a point salvage day.
22:5414-4.
22:55Not what anyone probably thought Deegan was going to card,
22:58but still enough to maintain a 34-point gap.
23:03Yeah, Hayden's doing exactly what he needs to do.
23:05I mean, that's why you go out there
23:06and he's been so consistent.
23:07So you can have these off days
23:09and this is obviously a bad day for Hayden Deegan,
23:12but at the end of the day,
23:13like he's still going to walk out of here
23:14somewhat healthy with the points lead.
23:16He can wrap this thing up.
23:18Still top five in his moto
23:19and for him,
23:21we just move on to next weekend,
23:22which I'm sure he'll be motivated.
23:24But you can tell by his body position,
23:25he's not charging in those jumps
23:27and what Will was talking about.
23:29Maybe the injury was a little bit worse.
23:31This race will really bring it out of you
23:33if you have any kind of injuries bothering you
23:35going down these hills.
23:38Yeah, went over the bars with a crash and qualifying.
23:41Let's hurt for a bit
23:42and jumped on the bike and put in a fast lap.
23:44But it cost him a little bit today.
23:47And I have to talk to all scuba Steve Westfall,
23:49the team manager there for Triumph.
23:50They figured something out of this moto.
23:52You had Swole and Jordan Smith up front.
23:55Smith crashed,
23:56but the Dane,
23:57Michael Harrop running well in the top five.
24:01This guy's been very good.
24:03No, he has.
24:04I mean, ever since we talked about him,
24:05oh, you mentioned him all year.
24:07Yeah.
24:07But Thunder Valley, I would say,
24:09was kind of his breakout.
24:10He was up there near the podium and battling.
24:12And you can hear it in his voice.
24:13You talked about last weekend.
24:14Now he's figured out
24:15that he does have some pace to run.
24:18And, you know,
24:19you're starting to see that consistency.
24:20But we talk all, you know,
24:22sometimes off air about how the teams
24:24and everything is kind of a copycat.
24:26Well, if the team has got one router
24:29doing good on a team,
24:30it kind of bundles in on everybody else.
24:32And you kind of see it happening
24:33with Mikel and the whole Triumph team.
24:357-5-6.
24:36That's Harrop's last three moto finishes.
24:39And Bolin, now we found him.
24:40He has really been on the charge in this moto
24:42from sixth place now.
24:49And it's good to see that, again,
24:50not the factory team.
24:52They do get help from Yamaha.
24:53They get motorcycles supplied by them.
24:55A lot of the stuff they have to build themselves
24:57as far as the parts.
25:00And they're fighting the big dogs today.
25:04There's DeFrancisco.
25:06Going to be a day of what might have been
25:07for the Bakersfield, California rider
25:10or the rock star, Gas Gas.
25:12Had speed, but two bad starts
25:14and a couple mistakes.
25:15Couldn't show it.
25:16Yeah, but I believe that this might,
25:18if he passes,
25:19let's see here,
25:21Bolin in front,
25:22then he's going to end up tying
25:23Hayden for fifth place.
25:25And if he gets another position,
25:26then he will be that top five.
25:28So maybe the whole day is not lost.
25:30If he can just make up
25:31a couple more positions here,
25:32I still think it's a good day
25:37for Ryder D.
25:38Showing that speed
25:39and even just finishing this moto
25:42in the top five would be great for him.
25:43Well, I was wondering,
25:45you talk so much about confidence.
25:47Is this something still for Ryder D?
25:50Yeah, I think it's really good for him,
25:52especially now as a rider.
25:54All we can hope for is really change.
25:57So he made a change to where he's at.
25:59And so now they starting to see it in practice.
26:02Now he comes to a race
26:03where he hasn't even been in the top three.
26:05His whole career comes to it
26:06and he's fastest in qualifying.
26:08Great sign.
26:10Now he's having a first moto wasn't good.
26:11Maybe some crashes here and there.
26:13Second moto had another crash
26:14when he's moving up.
26:15So I believe because he switched
26:17and moved down to Florida
26:18and he's starting to see an instant result,
26:21whether it was from Florida
26:22or just coincidence,
26:23it's going to be huge for him.
26:24And I think he'll be here
26:25hopefully finish out the rest of the year.
26:27But yeah, that change
26:29and these results
26:29are going to be a good positive
26:31for Ryder D moving forward.
26:34If he can make the move on Boland,
26:35it'll move him into fifth overall.
26:36Laxley will push Deegan back to sixth.
26:39It's battle raging
26:41between the two Californians,
26:43Folland
26:44and Ryder D.
26:48And this is the track
26:49where DeFrancisco made his pro debut.
26:51That was three years ago.
26:52Time flies.
26:53He's once one of the phenoms
26:54of amateur racing.
26:56It has been a slow burn
26:57building up to that level
26:58as a professional.
27:00When he had the top qualifying time today,
27:03he said, yeah, it's mixed.
27:04It's different as a pro,
27:05but he knows the feeling
27:06of being the fastest rider
27:08from his amateur success
27:09and he knows it right now.
27:10Makes the pass.
27:11Yeah, nice move.
27:12I saw that happen
27:13with, you know,
27:15Boland right there.
27:16When he came up short
27:17on that double as a Ryder,
27:18I know Leighton Moto,
27:19Red Butt,
27:20he instant that case,
27:21that body just kind of collapsed on him.
27:23Takes a lot out of you.
27:24So, you know,
27:25Ryder D had that pass made
27:26once I saw that happen.
27:27But good ride by both these guys.
27:29He could finish this thing off.
27:30Still a solid day
27:31for both of them.
27:33Schwartz and Ross,
27:35the teammates on the Yamaha
27:37is coming through next,
27:38eighth and ninth.
27:39Avery Long is tenth.
27:41And then his teammate,
27:42Lux Turner, is eleventh.
27:44A lot of teammate battles out here.
27:46Bomer would be next.
27:48Then Forkner,
27:49the other tryoff,
27:49thirteenth.
27:50Jordan Smith is twenty-fourth
27:52after that early
27:53off-track excursion.
27:55Oh, Deegan has caught Moseman.
27:57Yeah, I think something
27:58happened to Michael.
27:58I don't know if he went
27:59down this lap.
28:00Jalik's got in front of him as well.
28:02So, yeah,
28:04a few things are starting to happen
28:05or maybe I just missed that part.
28:06But nonetheless,
28:08it's going to change it again
28:09because right now,
28:10Hayden's still in that fifth place.
28:12Mike,
28:12Ryder D only tied him in the points.
28:14It was only one point at that.
28:16Hayden can get on the podium,
28:17still be a good recovery mode.
28:22Battle of the teammates right here.
28:24Yeah,
28:24it'll be interesting to see
28:25what happened to Moseman,
28:26who's been strong late
28:27in the races this year,
28:28but different weather conditions
28:30to date.
28:31Hottest,
28:31most humid race of the year.
28:33The heat,
28:34the temperature-wise,
28:34was into the triple digits
28:36of Hangtown,
28:37but you added in that humidity here.
28:39Or it could be something else.
28:40Either way,
28:41he's lost pace.
28:41Remember,
28:42he was right there
28:42with Shimoda.
28:43Yeah,
28:45I believe Michael went down
28:46because even with the earlier lap,
28:47I saw a 228,
28:49and then now,
28:50I see a 227.
28:51Oh, wow.
28:51The way he's rotting,
28:52he's not dropping off the pace
28:54that much.
28:55So,
28:55there's something else going on.
28:56So,
28:57maybe he went down,
28:58but he had to go down
28:59because even Jalik's only six seconds
29:00in front of him.
29:01So,
29:01the big gap.
29:02Now,
29:02you're watching this box
29:03in the bottom saying
29:04the battle for 23rd.
29:05That's what we're looking at,
29:06but it's interesting.
29:07It's actually Kitchen
29:07and Smith.
29:09Smith,
29:09who was up front,
29:10had the big off-track excursion,
29:12got tangled in the cords
29:14way off the side of the track
29:16where that monster can is.
29:18And then Kitchen,
29:19who we thought was out,
29:20visited the mechanics area,
29:21never gave up on it.
29:23And the bid is to get to 21st place
29:26where you score a championship point.
29:28Yeah,
29:29both these guys had a little
29:29off-track excursion.
29:32Levi had the off-track
29:33when he slid out
29:34in the first lap,
29:36an opening lap.
29:37I thought he was going to win the race.
29:38He was in position for it.
29:40Yeah,
29:40he probably was going to win the race
29:41until he went off the track.
29:42Yep.
29:43That's how quickly things could change.
29:46Look,
29:46man,
29:46the door is open
29:47because of Deegan,
29:48had the crash,
29:49then the bad first moto,
29:50start,
29:51and then incidents.
29:53But if you're Kitchen,
29:54if you're Vial,
29:55if you're Shimoda,
29:55anyone who's had success today,
29:57are you even telling yourself that?
29:59Or are you just saying,
30:00no,
30:00man,
30:00I rode awesome.
30:02No,
30:02I don't think they're going to be like,
30:04well,
30:04because Hayden had a bad day,
30:06it's the only reason I won.
30:07I feel like,
30:08you know,
30:08Joe,
30:09he feels like he's been strong.
30:11You know,
30:11he just hasn't been in front of him.
30:12So,
30:13Joe probably feels like he would have beaten Hayden
30:15no matter what Hayden would have done today.
30:16And the way he's riding,
30:17and the way Levi was riding,
30:18he was good.
30:19I think Levi would be more disappointed
30:21on his own self
30:22because he felt like he had this race.
30:24So,
30:24I don't think he's going to take any positives
30:26because he felt like he could win this moto
30:28and this overall today,
30:29JT.
30:30Yeah,
30:30just watching Hayden here.
30:32He started to pick up some intensity,
30:33made the pass on Moseman there,
30:35and he's set his sights on Jaleek Swole.
30:37I saw him took a glance over,
30:39kind of marking where Jaleek was
30:41going over Oroko's leap.
30:42So,
30:43I don't think this moto's quite over with for D.
30:44He may make a run here for second.
30:46Yeah,
30:47you know,
30:48Hayden probably remembers
30:49getting swollen up off the gate
30:51in that first moto too.
30:53He remembers everything.
30:54He remembers everything.
30:55That's Lance Kovach.
30:57So,
30:57you know,
30:57he knows how it is.
30:59He won't miss a moment.
31:00But yeah,
31:01now you can see Hayden again.
31:02This is that intensity.
31:04I think he was probably settled in.
31:06And that's why when,
31:07you know,
31:07when you look at a championship standpoint,
31:09Tom Vial,
31:10Levi Kitchen,
31:11I think Hayden was in that spot
31:13to where after how the day has been going,
31:15he really wouldn't have fought those guys
31:16because he would have lost those points.
31:18Those guys were in front of him.
31:18He really wouldn't have.
31:19But now,
31:20those guys are out.
31:21He seems to leak in front of them.
31:22And now his whole attitude is starting to change
31:24compared to what it was a couple laps ago
31:26as he almost,
31:27looks like he almost fell off the motorcycle right there.
31:32Oh,
31:32he said that Deegan doesn't forget anything.
31:34There's been some social media sparring
31:36between he and Chet Lawrence actually this week.
31:39And the rival will be expected
31:40to actually move to the track maybe next summer.
31:43Here's what I couldn't believe.
31:45Last year,
31:45Ty Masterpool edged him for the win at High Point
31:48as Deegan now has Swole in his sights.
31:51Remember,
31:51Masterpool on the podium said,
31:52I wasn't thinking about Deegan back there.
31:54I was trying to keep the pressure off.
31:55I was just saying,
31:56me versus me,
31:57me versus me.
31:58Deegan wins High Point this year.
31:59Social media caption,
32:01me versus me.
32:02I mean,
32:02Masterpool's not even here today.
32:04Masterpool's had a rough season with Elvis.
32:06But Deegan still had to take that little shot.
32:09Everything,
32:09everything fires this guy up.
32:12I bet he's got a diary full of all the comments.
32:16He'd be like,
32:17let me go back off.
32:18Yep,
32:18there's what it was,
32:19the High Point.
32:19A year later.
32:21Well,
32:21I'm sure he'll break something up here.
32:23I can tell by the way he's riding.
32:24I'm sure he didn't forget about
32:26off the gate
32:27with Jalik.
32:28So,
32:29yep.
32:29I will say this,
32:30Jalik's not one of those guys.
32:32He'll play back too.
32:33So,
32:34I want to get Swole up again
32:35at the end of part of the race.
32:36I'm just going to say it.
32:40So where Deegan is so strong,
32:41though,
32:42Leighton needs Modo's bone bruise
32:43on the leg or not.
32:45And that's what makes him so hard
32:46to beat in the title
32:47because,
32:47man,
32:48just think of the points he's salvaged
32:49in the last 10 minutes.
32:51What?
32:51Almost knack-knocked his way
32:54through that turn.
32:55Leg got kicked off.
32:57Yeah,
32:58you can see how Hayden
32:59backed out in those rollers.
33:00So,
33:00if he has any kind of,
33:01you know,
33:02strength in his legs,
33:03that's where he's really going to,
33:04you know,
33:05pay dividends or hurt.
33:06So,
33:06you can see him backing out,
33:08trying to absorb that
33:09with his body.
33:13It's still a great ride by Jalik
33:15because his pass really won't
33:16change anything.
33:17He'll tie,
33:18you know,
33:19Moseman for,
33:21in points,
33:22but he'll still get that second overall.
33:24But Jalik don't want to roll over here.
33:26Let's see what happens.
33:28Two to go.
33:29Deegan on the outside.
33:31Ah,
33:31Swole trying to fight him,
33:32but Deegan gets it.
33:34I'm going to say it was a bad line situation.
33:36Okay.
33:37I'm just going to say a bad line.
33:38Okay.
33:40Hey,
33:41that's not bad for the third race back from,
33:42I didn't think we'd be seeing Swole racing
33:44at all this year.
33:46But Deegan,
33:47think of the dig.
33:49He's extended the point lead.
33:50I think at one point,
33:51it was 31
33:52over Shimoda.
33:54Now it sits at 38.
33:56He's picked up seven points
33:57over the last about 10 minutes
33:59of this moto
34:00by moving past Harrop,
34:02by moving past DeFrancisco,
34:04Moseman,
34:04Swole.
34:05But Joe Shimoda
34:06is going to make it a perfect day
34:09for the Red Riders
34:09at Redbud.
34:10Honda's going to win
34:11all four motos.
34:13Last time a manufacturer swept
34:14Redbud was 2008.
34:16You know what manufacturer
34:17that was
34:18and who was involved
34:19in 2008, James?
34:20Man,
34:21who was racing that year?
34:22Let me see.
34:22Okay,
34:23well,
34:23Ryan Filippoto won
34:24the 250 class
34:25on a Kawasaki.
34:27Ferry?
34:28Ferry?
34:29It was not Ferry.
34:30Ferry was probably good,
34:31but it was Ferry's teammate,
34:32James Stewart
34:33who won on a Kawasaki
34:34in 2008.
34:35Oh, yeah.
34:35That 450 class.
34:36I did have one.
34:36I forgot about that.
34:37Okay.
34:38He won every race that year.
34:39It was something to me.
34:40Yeah, see,
34:40that's what it was.
34:41I won all of them,
34:42but I couldn't remember
34:42which one I won.
34:45So it's Honda's day.
34:47We mentioned
34:47that the president
34:47from Japan
34:48of Honda HRC
34:50is here.
34:51What I would do
34:52if I'm Lars,
34:52the team manager,
34:53I'd be like,
34:53yeah,
34:53this happens every week.
34:55I mean,
34:55if you're in a 450 class,
34:56it does.
34:57It does, actually, yeah.
34:58Yeah,
34:58it makes it like Joe, man.
34:59Joe's been slacking,
35:00so I don't know
35:01what he's been doing.
35:02Joe showed up
35:03because this is what
35:03we do every week.
35:04We just win.
35:05Well,
35:06the only non-Degan wins
35:07in the class
35:07are going to be by Hondas
35:08because it was the other
35:09250 rider,
35:10Hymas,
35:10who's out with injury
35:11that did it.
35:12So,
35:13still going pretty well
35:14over there,
35:15but that Deegan riddle
35:15is very hard to solve,
35:17but Shimoda
35:17will have some momentum
35:18heading into the next race
35:20next weekend
35:21at Spring Creek.
35:22Yeah,
35:23no,
35:23I'd love to see that.
35:24And the points
35:25between 31 and 36,
35:26I mean,
35:27they all matter,
35:28but I don't think
35:29it's a huge deal.
35:30With the huge deal
35:31of the points gained
35:31is Joe's mindset.
35:33I think now
35:34it's get that monkey
35:35off his back.
35:36I believe this is
35:37one of the first,
35:37you know,
35:38victories for Honda.
35:40I mean,
35:40he hasn't had too many
35:41coming off over this team
35:42in the outdoors,
35:43but nonetheless,
35:43that's right.
35:44I think Joe
35:44is just more solidifying.
35:46Look,
35:47he had that second,
35:48the way he opened
35:48the season
35:49with four consecutive
35:50second places
35:53those moto finishes
35:54and then now
35:55he had a few
35:55motos up and down.
35:56Second moto last weekend,
35:58Joe looked like Joe.
35:59Today looked pretty easy
36:00to me,
36:01the way he's been
36:01riding,
36:02knew like it was
36:03going to happen
36:03and I think next weekend
36:06he can kind of
36:06continue this
36:07because Joe
36:07is not one of those
36:08type of riders.
36:09Hold on.
36:10Hold on now.
36:11He's not one of those
36:12type of riders.
36:12He rides the same
36:13all the time.
36:14I think it's just
36:14really just start
36:15dependent and today
36:17he's got those starts
36:18and today
36:19he's going to go
36:201-1 if he holds on.
36:22Well,
36:22that was the question
36:23at the top of the show.
36:23Who can take advantage?
36:24The answer
36:25is Shimoda
36:26but also
36:28listen to how the podium
36:29is looking to be
36:30shaking out right now.
36:31Swole will be second
36:32and Moseman still
36:34third.
36:35So taking advantage
36:35also those two riders
36:37to get on the box.
36:39Hymas is out.
36:40Shimoda,
36:40Kitschern,
36:41and Vial
36:41have been the primary
36:42Deegan fighters.
36:44Well,
36:45Kitschern threw it away
36:45with a crash.
36:47Vial had a crash early.
36:49Good job on you,
36:50Moseman and Swole
36:50to get on the podium
36:51if it ends like this.
36:53And good job by Shimoda
36:54by taking the biggest
36:55advantage of all.
37:00Got Woody with two turns
37:02to go.
37:04So that should be,
37:05as you mentioned,
37:06Shimoda's first win
37:07in pro motocross
37:07on Honda.
37:08His last win
37:09was the finale
37:10in Ironman
37:102023
37:11but that was
37:12when he was still
37:13with Monster Pro Circuit
37:14Kawasaki.
37:15This crowd
37:18is still going.
37:19They are.
37:20They might be
37:21a little delirious
37:22out here
37:22with the heat
37:23but they're going
37:24to see the number
37:2430,
37:25another Honda win.
37:26And they cheer
37:27him to the line.
37:28Joe Shimoda
37:29sweeps Redbuff
37:302025.
37:33And it's a Honda
37:34sweep,
37:34as mentioned.
37:35Here is Deegan.
37:37What a journey
37:37it has been today.
37:39The qualifying crash.
37:40Two crashes
37:41and a smoking
37:42motorcycle.
37:4314th in Moto 1.
37:44More problems
37:45in Moto 2.
37:46He comes all
37:47the way back
37:47to second.
37:49It will be
37:50fifth overall
37:50and the celebration
37:53begins for the rider
37:54out of Japan.
37:55Shimoda.
