MotorTranscript
00:00That's toward the middle, that's good, although the red bud start tends to favor the inside a bit.
00:05Yeah, with that star racing Yamaha power, he should be able to make up that difference.
00:11And Deegan, come back, you know he gets motivated when anyone else tries to get the hook at him.
00:17Shimoda with the first moto win.
00:20Can Honda sweep red bud for the first time?
00:23What about Di Francesco, the fast qualifier, what can he do if he gets a better start?
00:27As he was rolling this morning, so many stories intersecting right now.
00:39Oh, Deegan got booked, Shimoda's on the inside.
00:45Drag racing for it, Jalik Swole with the whole shot of the trial.
00:49Oh, nice move by Jalik, Joe was in that first corner at first, but had that like that tighter inside,
00:54Jalik swung around, and it's swelling up on a nice ride by Jalik Swole to get that whole shot.
01:00He's got his teammate, Jordan Smith, second, who almost never gets good starts in pro moto cross.
01:05Triumph figured something out.
01:07Shimoda challenging, oh, and Vial is down.
01:09Oh, man, Tom Vial, that's the second corner right there, so you wonder if he got bumped off the racetrack,
01:14or was it an incident on him, but not the best start.
01:16Clearly, it's going to cost him here.
01:18Podium might be out the window now for Vial, as the Triumph boys are 1-2.
01:24Kitchen has a good start, as does Hammaker.
01:27Yeah, but if I'm Levi Kitchen, I'm in a great spot.
01:31We see how aggressive Levi is already, so he's still firing from that first moto.
01:35He's going to slingshot around Joe on the outside.
01:38Woo!
01:39Makes it happen.
01:39Kitchen, second in moto one, third now.
01:42And he loves that corner.
01:44He's made a lot of passes through that section in moto one.
01:46Yeah, he has it, and really because it's one of those corners that you can really just charge all the way down there,
01:51so it opens up.
01:53There is an inside-outside.
01:54Joe tries to square back underneath, thinks better of it, but Joe, I'm good with him.
01:59I'm just kind of calmed down at this point.
02:01Just make sure you follow that number 47 up to the front, because Levi looks like he's heading towards there.
02:07Okay, here is the start, but Swole trying to find Vial on this mess here.
02:13Bunch of riders down.
02:14Oh, he was ahead.
02:16Oh, all the way to the other side.
02:17Yeah, I didn't even see what happened here.
02:19We were just looking at the battle on the inside, but for whatever reason, you could tell the way Tom's looking,
02:24he's looking ahead.
02:25Might have had some help there.
02:27Yeah, meanwhile, it was actually DeFrancisco stacked up on the inside, going down JT.
02:32Yeah, I was watching it live, and then watched the replay there.
02:35He was actually near the top five.
02:37He got pushed into that wall as they're fighting for space there, then high-sided over it, so tough break for Vial.
02:43Fighting for the overall here today.
02:45Actually had a good start and kind of ended up on his head for his troubles.
02:49Oh, and Kitsch and JT got off the track.
02:52No traction.
02:53He's down.
02:55Yeah, he saw Jet Lawrence railing those outsides, and that berm just fell away, and Levi was not letting up the gas.
03:00He just kept it going.
03:02But truthfully, the way his pace has been outside of Joe Simota, he might be able to get back on there,
03:06but that's going to be costly for Levi.
03:08Yeah, he had the overall in head at that very moment.
03:11He's right behind DeFrancisco.
03:14Nearly everyone has had a moment of great and terrible today at Redbud, except for Shimota.
03:21What can Kitsch and JT do?
03:23You go down early in the races, you lose a ton of spots.
03:26He's 11th.
03:26Yeah, it's definitely going to be costly for him, but the good thing is, it's still bunched up.
03:31And that pace that Levi had, I mean, at one point, he was going six seconds faster than anybody else,
03:35and how aggressive that he has been this whole moto since the second, third lap of that first moto.
03:42Levi might still have a shot at coming up here.
03:45He's on that sort of form, this moto today.
03:49How about Jalik Swole and Jordan Smith?
03:52Swole is only two races back from a torn Achilles, and back early and leading right now.
03:59Yeah, Jalik has been looking good ever since being back, and you just start to wonder, was it high point?
04:03Then he backs it up at Southwick, and in that first moto, solid finish, ends up sixth place.
04:09So Jalik is really solid and consistent so far coming back, and his conditioners look pretty strong to me.
04:15So very impressive, as you just said.
04:18Yeah, and honestly, his Southwick results should have been better.
04:20He actually crashed on the last lap and lost a ton of spots.
04:24He's fighting around the top five.
04:26Something has kicked off for this team, because they're great off the start, and now even putting distance between themselves and Shimoda.
04:36What?
04:37Oh, what?
04:39Jordan Smith off the track and into that monster side over there.
04:44Got tangled.
04:45I don't know how you get that far off the track.
04:47Oh, man, he had a great race going.
04:49I was just going to say they put some water on this track, and they put some water on these faces to jump, and these guys got to be careful when they're doing all the scrubs.
04:57And I bet you Jordan came out of this corner as Hayden Deegan makes his way up into fourth place.
05:04I bet Jordan Smith spun off the face of that jump, and he just took a left instantly.
05:10That was crazy watching it.
05:12So Deegan taking advantage of all that.
05:14He passes Handmaker and Smith off the track and down.
05:18He is in fourth.
05:19Now, again, the overall would be nearly impossible with the 14th in the first one, but he can salvage something here.
05:27He is seventh overall currently.
05:30Yeah, and Hayden looks back to Hayden's style, and you can tell the way he came past that mechanics area.
05:35He's riding a little mad right now, so try to get it.
05:38Keep going.
05:38Will.
05:39I'm just going to add a little bit more back story there to what you guys were talking about at the beginning of the race with Hayden Deegan and that injury.
05:46And that's what we thought we were dealing with there in Moto1.
05:49It was described to us as more of a Charlie Horse, a dead leg, but I was talking to his dad, Brian Deegan, and he said,
05:55no, it turns out it was a little bit more than that to the point where I actually went to the Alpine Stars medical unit to get it x-rayed.
06:02He was worried that there was a fracture or something in it.
06:05That was negative.
06:06I mean, he does not have any kind of bone break.
06:08They said it's just very, very deep bone bruising.
06:11And Brian was telling me, he's like, I've had that injury before, and it is incredibly hard to grip the bike.
06:17James, we know how important that is to kind of squeeze and keep that control over the bike.
06:20He said he was struggling with that.
06:22You add that, and then that kind of sense of urgency and overriding the bike that JT was talking about.
06:27There was just a whole bunch of stuff just kind of rolling together, so he expects to see a calmer haven in this moto.
06:33Yeah, and that makes sense, Will, because when he came down that, when he crashed, you know, in a lot of his corners, he was overriding.
06:39I wouldn't say overriding the bike, but when he was slamming in these corners, he was missing all the ruts.
06:43And as I said earlier today, there's about five ruts over here, so not only do you get cross-rider with one, you've got to go across all of them.
06:50And if you can't grip the motorcycle, the one area, the biggest area that you struggle is in corners and ruts.
06:55So not surprising to see if that's the injury, Hayden Deegan struggling in those types of situations.
07:00Oh, and another rider down.
07:03Oh, it's Deegan again.
07:05I thought that was Moseman.
07:06Moseman's just ahead of him.
07:07It's Deegan with a tip over.
07:09Yeah, now in this situation, we saw Chase Sexton lose the front end, and Hayden does that.
07:14But what Hayden does, he was so comfortable the way he was riding.
07:17He had both feet on the pegs and just leaned into that corner, and both ends just start sliding.
07:22He goes down.
07:23Costly mistake.
07:24Not the end of the world, because it's still early, and he didn't lose too much time.
07:27But you see him coming in here, keeping his feet on the pegs.
07:30Now he drops it off.
07:31Well, that one corner he goes down, he had them both on and just lost it.
07:34And look who got around him as Deegan hammers on the front brake of his motorcycle.
07:40DeFrancisco, great at qualifying, outstanding, fastest by far.
07:46Two bad starts, but he ends up to fifth, and we might still see the 25, the Rockstar Gascox, uncorked.
07:53There is time.
07:54Swole is leading.
07:56This is the first ever laps led for Triumph in Pro Motocross.
07:59He got a podium for that team last year, but didn't lead laps while doing it.
08:04Chinson is in the mechanics area.
08:07Yeah, I was looking out the window, because I'm like, did we miss Levi?
08:10And we didn't, and that looks like a bike issue.
08:14Or no, he's kicking the front end, so he must have went down.
08:18Oh, man.
08:19Joe's in a perfect situation right now, taking advantage of the situation.
08:23You've got both of these guys in the points, losing the points.
08:27And Joe just slowly coming up through here, making it happen.
08:30And Jalik Swole is still out front doing his thing.
08:35Making it look pretty easy.
08:36And by the way, Shimoda would have the overall if he just stays here in second.
08:40So will he go after Swole?
08:44Championship-wise, though, of course, it pays points for Motocross.
08:47So there's motivation for Shimoda to get it.
08:50But what a story by Jalik Swole.
08:52Two races back from a torn Achilles.
08:54Yeah, and Jalik looks good.
08:57And you can always tell when a rider how they feel on a motorcycle by how aggressive he is.
09:01And Jalik, when he leaned in on Hayden, not that he did anything on that first moto,
09:05but that's the guy who wants to start up front.
09:07Second moto, like, he made it happen off the start.
09:10So if Jalik was coming back and he didn't feel comfortable,
09:13he wouldn't be that aggressive off the gate trying to make sure he throws an elbow in on somebody
09:18to get the best starting position on that first lap.
09:20So, to me, it shows me that he's back, feeling good on that triumph, and it's showing today.
09:25And another triumph is there as Moseman is third.
09:28Harap, another teammate of Swole, is fourth.
09:30DeFrancisco fifth.
09:32Then it's Deegan Voland, Gumer, Parker Ross putting in another good run.
09:37He is ninth.
09:38The Toyota of Redlands Bar-X Yamaha Hammacher has dropped to tenth
09:41on the Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki.
09:44And DeFrancisco, as expected.
09:46Now that speed showing itself in the race.
09:48He moves forward from fifth.
09:50Yeah, Broderdee, the first moto didn't go the way he wanted,
09:53especially after that fast qualifying position.
09:56So now he's got some opportunity.
09:57Hayden Deegan is behind you.
09:58You can see the leader.
09:59They're not too far up there.
10:01So let's see how it's going to work out for him.
10:04But you can hear that Yamaha in the background, that number one,
10:07here in wide open as Joe is trying to get around Jalik now.
10:09Yeah, Joe's dealing with Moseman, and DeFrancisco is dealing with Deegan.
10:16DeFrancisco looking to make moves.
10:17And here's the move from Shimoda to the lead.
10:21Yeah, nice pass by Joe.
10:22He actually made a pass in the first moto like that as well.
10:25So it's a good position to be in when you're starting to look at Joe
10:28and look how quickly Michael Moseman has been going.
10:32And you're starting to wonder, was Joe, was Jalik going back
10:35or was Joe picking up the pace?
10:36Because Michael was coming up, putting it on him.
10:37But nonetheless, things are starting to happen a little quick for Jalik.
10:40Just need to calm down.
10:42I would not count out Moseman of maybe taking this moto win
10:45because, again, Shimoda doesn't have to beat him for the overall.
10:48And Moseman, top box is rolling.
10:51Bottom box is that Harrop-DeFrancisco-Deegan battle for 56th.
10:59It's been a wild day.
11:00Yeah, no, it has been a wild day.
11:02And we've been talking.
11:03And I like how Michael's jumping out over that bump where Joe's really settling in,
11:07just hitting all those bumps.
11:08Michael looks good.
11:09He's been riding good all year.
11:11We've been talking about a couple last lap or bike issues cost him for being on the podium.
11:15But nonetheless, good to see another star racing Yamaha up here, Michael,
11:19after that injury he had.
11:21Oh, yeah, we told the story many times.
11:23He was set to retire after breaking his neck.
11:25And now he's back and back with a vengeance, looking to take the lead.
11:29DeFrancisco, meanwhile, battling in the bottom box, Will.
11:32And he must be so relieved, Jason, to be in this kind of position here in Moto2 because
11:38after that incredible qualifying, topping the qualifying this morning, he just, as he
11:43gets, there we go, he gets it done, topping that qualifying this morning there and then
11:48having that disastrous start to Moto1 was not what he wanted.
11:51He has said that this is by far his favorite track.
11:56And it kind of all surprised us.
11:57We were like, that sort of came out of nowhere.
11:59But the difference maker has been a move that he has made to Florida.
12:03This was only about three weeks ago.
12:04He was offered it by the team before to move to Florida.
12:07As we know, James and Jason, there's a lot more riders out based in Florida for them to
12:12ride with to push that level.
12:14He declined before because he wanted to stay home with his family there, west coast based.
12:18This time he said, okay, if that's what I need to do, that is what I will do.
12:21He's been out there for three weeks and his family said about a week ago they were really
12:25starting to see that change and it's coming around for him today.
12:29Yeah, no, that's a good point.
12:31And not only, yeah, there's more riders out there than you can ride with.
12:33I mean, Joe's down there.
12:34A lot of guys are down there and they go back and forth.
12:37So I don't think it's the riders that's probably the biggest change.
12:39But one thing I will say is that the soil is a lot different.
12:42So he can probably replicate that race pace down in Florida because of the soil.
12:46They're able to charge a little bit more because there's a lot more grip than California.
12:49So maybe that's what's joining.
12:51And if you can have that intensity, it's going to help you in practice for qualifying.
12:55And maybe that's what we're starting to see, you know, with Ryder D out there.
12:59One guy who's got the intensity again is Hayden Deegan.
13:02He tries to go around Mikhail Harp on that Triumph 107.
13:05Hayden should be up to inside here.
13:08That's the corner where he crashed.
13:09Yeah, where he went down to.
13:11And he can see Ryder D starting to get away from him.
13:13So I would say this race is too far gone from Hayden as well.
13:16Depending on how Joe starts reacting, he knows he has his overall wrapped up.
13:23Moseman is in position at the moment for second overall as well.
13:27Moseman has not won a moto since winning the first moto at his home track at Hangtown in 2022.
13:34And he hasn't had a moto podium since three years.
13:38We talk about the journey, missed so much time with the injuries, concussions, the broken neck.
13:42Moseman riding well, a renaissance season for him.
13:45Deegan putting it back together today after the rough first moto and some troubles here.
13:52And Moseman is not letting Shimoda go.
13:55No, he's not.
13:56And I feel like if Michael just stays here, eventually Joe is going to realize that,
14:01all right, I got a pretty good gap on, you know, second place,
14:05which is Michael at this moment for the overall.
14:07So if Michael keeps putting his pressure on him, Joe probably will end up,
14:11wouldn't say he led him by, but he won't fight him as it would be to overall.
14:14So Michael's key, just stay on Joe these next few laps,
14:17and then hopefully Joe goes in there and realizes that he's got this overall locked up
14:21and just, you know, hands you that position.
14:23What a story that would be.
14:28About to go back uphill here.
14:37Quietly, last couple of supercrosses for Moseman were very good.
14:41Led to momentum for outdoors near the podium in Hangtown.
14:45Ended up crashing late while going for it.
14:47Coulda, shoulda, woulda had the podium last week.
14:49It was bike problems that cost him in the first moto while he was running in second.
14:53So this type of riding has already been here.
14:55Now we're seeing the result.
14:58Yeah, I was looking at Michael coming down that hill where Hunter Lawrence crashed last year,
15:02and you could see that bike swapping, going down.
15:04And it wasn't a big one, but I know as a rotter, he got to it like halfway down.
15:08He was just trying to hang on to it, but it ends up working out
15:11and just shows you how much it's happening in a small amount of time.
15:15Shout out to Parker Ross here battling with Beaumare.
15:18This is eighth and ninth.
15:21Ross was good at Southwick as well.
15:22Rookie pro season for him, and he's showing some talent.
15:26The Toyota of Redlands, Bar X Yamaha, the Red Bull KTM of Beaumare.
15:31Started the year great.
15:33Said it was absolutely terrible in the sand, leading the Southwick while practicing it.
15:37Wasn't very good in the race either.
15:39A little bit better today.
15:41Yeah, well, I mean, all these guys are so young.
15:43They'll be better next year.
15:44We've seen Hayden Deacon hasn't even won a moto here, and look how dominant he is.
15:47So some of these places you've got to figure out.
15:49One thing with this racetrack, and especially these second motos,
15:52what makes it so tough, you see these braking bumps going down the hills.
15:55Like, they start early on the hill, and they just continue to get bigger and bigger.
16:00And the hard part is you're already going downhill, so the bikes come pressing.
16:04The bumps are getting bigger.
16:05And that's why when you see these guys, the bike starts bouncing and just continues.
16:09And then all of a sudden they get this jolt at the bottom of the hill.
16:12That's because the suspension is completely bottomed out
16:14and because the bumps are so big here at Red Butt, you see that instant stop.
16:18And that's why we kind of saw what happened to Hayden Deacon that first moto as well.
16:21Oh!
16:23Instant stop of a different kind from Ross.
16:26He's trying to sit foam air up.
16:29Yeah, Parker was trying to get out of that corner, maybe get that bike on the tire
16:33so he can start getting that drive going down those sand rollers.
16:36Easy to happen, but it's a hard base underneath that sand, slid out.
16:40And once you lose it in the roller part, can't tell on TV, but it starts going back uphill.
16:44So in these 250s, they lose so much time by making one mistake there.
16:48And you can see the gap that he's lost to Julian up here.
16:50And a mistake was made by DeFrancisco as well.
16:53He just ran a .228 lap.
16:56Race pace is in that .215, .216 range.
16:59And he has gone from fourth to seventh.
17:03Deacon's around him, Harrop's around him, and shout-out to Max Follin,
17:08the Club of X Muckoff Yamaha.
17:10He's got a good ride going in sixth.
17:13Yeah, Router D must have went down somewhere.
17:15I didn't see that one, so.
17:16Yep.
17:17There's Ross.
17:18And Villal, by the way, is into the points now.
17:20He's 19th, and Kitchin is out.
17:24Yeah, Levi Kitchin and Tom Villal is going to be kicking themselves
17:27because that could have been a good day in points, especially where Hayden is.
17:30And I feel like with Hayden, he wouldn't have given up,
17:33but I don't think he would have fought, especially after that first moto
17:36and what would have been happening.
17:37Those guys would have been riding the way it was.
17:39He would have been fine.
17:40Dylan Schwartz making moves here.
17:42Schwartz, third fastest in qualifying today.
17:44Had a good start in the first moto, but then crashed.
17:47I believe right around that same area Deegan did in this one.
17:51So now we're getting to see the speed.
17:53He's always strong at the end of the races.
17:55Router from Alpine, California.
17:56Avery Long, the rookie behind him at the AEO KTM.
18:01I was wrong.
18:02I said Kitchin was out.
18:03We saw the mechanics area.
18:04I thought it was done, but he is still there.
18:07He's 28th right now, Kitchin.
18:10Actually made a few passes.
18:12Yeah, I thought maybe he pulled off.
18:14I saw him go back in there, but still,
18:16he might as well be out until he gets in those points over here.
18:18But still, I think Levi, he's all about winning,
18:21and he knew he missed a huge opportunity and a mistake on his own here.
18:25Bummer for him, but he's got to keep trying his best.
18:28Battle now is between the teammates.
18:30Hammaker back to 13th after running up front early,
18:33and welcome back to the rookie Drew Adams,
18:36who broke his finger at high point, didn't raise Stopwick.
18:39I asked him this morning, how's the finger, and he said,
18:41well, I got to use two fingers on the clutch now.
18:43Index finger's not so hot.
18:45So he's using two fingers on the clutch and otherwise riding okay.
18:48Got the hand guards on the number 98.
18:51I ran two fingers on the clutch.
18:53Ain't nothing wrong with that.
18:54Okay.
18:54Yeah, no, but the way the points are right now,
18:56it would be nice to see Jalik Swole in third place for overall.
19:01Michael in second, and Joe, of course, would be winning.
19:03So if things stay the way they are, nice ride by Jalik,
19:06and Triumph and his teammate would be in fourth.
19:10It would be impressive, yes, because the Swole,
19:12even though he got the overall podium last year,
19:14didn't get a moto podium, did it?
19:16At Unadilla, a couple of the riders had some bad luck.
19:19Now, in his defense, he had had podiums pulled away from him with bad luck.
19:23But 6'4 at that Unadilla race.
19:26Since it would be his first moto podium since Bud's Creek in 2023.
19:30He can get on the podium in the moto and for Triumph overall.
19:33That would be huge.
19:35Shimoda now pulling away from Moseman and working on the 1-1 and the Honda Red Bud Sweep.
19:41Will.
19:43It's this time of the race, isn't it?
19:45It's Joe Shimoda.
19:46This is his time.
19:48He gets to that halfway point, and he just starts to push.
19:51He's so good late in the race.
19:54And when I asked him about that earlier on today,
19:56he said, at some point in the moto, it's not about speed anymore.
20:00And what he meant by that is suddenly the endurance side of it,
20:03suddenly the fitness side of it takes over.
20:05He has a ton of trust in his fitness.
20:07I talked earlier on in the day there at Moto1,
20:09how the team sort of believed it to be a genetic thing
20:12because they said he is really special in that area.
20:15And now he's coming into his own.
20:17His mechanic, Ben Griffin, said,
20:19I haven't told him right now that he only needs second.
20:21I don't want him to think about it.
20:23I want him to focus right now on the moment and focus forward.
20:26And he said, that's when Joe works his best work.
20:29Well, Will, let's be honest.
20:30The points paid per moto, they want him to win this
20:32because he's second in the championship.
20:35Score every point you can.
20:36What did we say, James?
20:37Take advantage of the situation.
20:38He's done it.
20:40Look at the points in the championship.
20:42He's cut it to 34, making up a ton of ground on Deegan today.
20:46Yeah, that's a huge, I mean, huge gain.
20:48And not only that, it just, I think for Joe,
20:50it just made me give him the belief that he can beat Hayden Deegan.
20:53We're starting to wonder, you know,
20:55I'm sure those guys want, could they do it?
20:57They talk about him in the interview, like,
20:59yeah, I'm getting my confidence.
21:00I got to have everything right
21:01because that number one is just in a zone right now.
21:04So maybe show something that it can't happen.
21:06And so far, Joe has been able to do it so far today.
21:11Back to Swole here in third, again,
21:14for the first moto podium for triumph.
21:16And I just cannot believe he's this good, this quickly.
21:22The Achilles was so bad as he's actually closing on Moseman now at high point.
21:26The first race back, case to jump.
21:28Said he felt a whole bunch of pain in the ankle.
21:30He got scared.
21:31Turned out that was just breaking away some scar tissue.
21:34Probably helped, actually.
21:36Long run.
21:37But this is incredible.
21:39Torn Achilles.
21:40Thinking of coming up short and jumps helps the Achilles out, right?
21:43Unbelievable.
21:44Yeah, but it just shows how tough these guys are in that whole race thing.
21:47You can't imitate race because at home, you know,
21:50we're going to make sure we land softly on those jumps at home to not get that.
21:55Okay, so Deegan in fourth takes advantage of the mistake by DeFrancisco.
22:02It's a point salvage day.
22:0314-4, not what anyone probably thought Deegan was going to card,
22:07but still enough to maintain a 34-point gap.
22:11Yeah, Hayden's doing exactly what he needs to do.
22:14I mean, that's why you go out there and he's been so consistent.
22:17So you can have these off days, and this is obviously a bad day for Hayden Deegan,
22:21but at the end of the day, like, he's still going to walk out of here somewhat healthy
22:25with the points lead.
22:26He can wrap this thing up, still top five in his moto,
22:29and for him, we just move on to next weekend, which I'm sure he'll be motivated.
22:33But you can tell by his body position, he's not charging in those jumps
22:37and what Will was talking about, maybe the injury was a little bit worse.
22:40This race will really bring it out of you if you have any kind of injuries bothering you going down these hills.
22:47Yeah, went over the bars with a crash in qualifying.
22:51Looked hurt for a bit, then jumped on the bike and put in a fast lap.
22:54But it cost him a little bit today.
22:57And I have to talk to all scuba Steve Westfall, the team manager there for Triumph.
23:00They figured something out of this moto.
23:02You had Swole and Jordan Smith up front.
23:05Smith crashed, but the Dane, Nicole Harrop, running well in the top five.
23:10This guy's been very good.
23:12No, he has.
23:13I mean, ever since we talked about him, oh, you mentioned him all year.
23:16Yeah.
23:17But Thunder Valley, I would say, was kind of his breakout.
23:19He was up there near the podium in battle, and you can hear it in his voice.
23:23You know, talked about last weekend.
23:24Now he's figured out that he does have some pace to run.
23:27And, you know, you're starting to see that consistency.
23:30But we talk all, you know, sometimes off air about how the teams and everything is kind of a copycat.
23:36Well, if the team has got one router doing good on a team, it kind of funnels in on everybody else.
23:41And you kind of see it happening with Mikel and the whole Triumph team.
23:447-5-6.
23:46That's Harrop's last three moto finishes.
23:48And Bolin, now we found him.
23:50He has really been on the charge in this moto from sixth place now.
23:57And it's good to see that, again, not the factory team.
24:01They do get help from Yamaha.
24:02They get motorcycles supplied by them.
24:05A lot of the stuff they have to build themselves as far as the parts.
24:09And they're fighting the big dogs today.
24:13There's DeFrancisco.
24:14Going to be a day of what might have been for the Bakersfield California rider or the rock star, Gaskas.
24:22Had speed, but two bad starts and a couple mistakes.
24:25Couldn't show it.
24:26Yeah, but I believe if this might, if he passes, you see it here, Bolin in front.
24:32And he's going to end up tying Hayden for fifth place.
24:35And if he gets another position, then he will be that top five.
24:37So maybe the whole day is not lost if he can just make up a couple more positions here.
24:45Still think it's a good day for Ryder D, showing that speed and even just finishing this moto in the top five would be great for him.
24:53Well, I was wondering, you talk so much about confidence.
24:57Is this something still for Ryder D?
24:59Yeah, I think it's really good for him, especially now as a rider.
25:04All we can hope for is really change.
25:07So he made a change to where he's at.
25:09And so now they're starting to see it in practice.
25:11Now he comes to a race where he hasn't even been in the top three.
25:14His whole career comes to it and he's fastest in qualifying.
25:18Great sign.
25:19Now he's having a first moto wasn't good.
25:21Maybe some crashes here and there.
25:22Second moto had another crash, but he's moving up.
25:24So I believe because he switched and moved down to Florida and he's starting to see an instant results,
25:30whether it was from Florida or just coincidence, it's going to be huge for him.
25:34And I think he'll be here, hopefully finish out the rest of the year.
25:36But, yeah, that change and these results are going to be a good positive for Ryder D moving forward.
25:43If he can make the move on Folland, it'll move him into fifth overall.
25:46And actually will push Deegan back to sixth.
25:50It's battle raging between the two Californians.
25:52Folland and Ryder D.
25:58And this is the track where DeFrancisco made his pro debut.
26:01That was three years ago.
26:02Time flies.
26:03He's once one of the phenoms of amateur racing.
26:05It has been a slow burn building up to that level as a professional.
26:11When he had the top qualifying time today, he said, yeah, it's mixed.
26:14It's different as a pro, but he knows the feeling of being the fastest rider from its amateur success.
26:19And he knows it right now.
26:20Makes the pass.
26:21Yeah, nice move.
26:22I saw that happen with, you know, Bowling right there.
26:25When he came up short on that double as a rider, I know Leighton Moto, Red Bud, he instant that case.
26:31That body just kind of collapsed on him.
26:32Takes a lot out of you.
26:34So, you know, Ryder D had that pass made once I saw that happen.
26:37But good ride by both these guys.
26:38He could finish this thing off.
26:40Still a solid day for both of them.
26:41And Schwartz and Ross, the teammates on the Yamaha, is coming through next, eighth and ninth.
26:49Avery Long is tenth.
26:50And then his teammate, Lux Turner, is eleventh.
26:53A lot of teammate battles out here.
26:55Bomer would be next.
26:57Then fourth or the other try-off, 13th.
27:00Jordan Smith is 24th after that early off-track excursion.
27:05Oh, Deegan has caught Bozeman.
27:06Yeah, I think something happened to Michael.
27:08I don't know if he went down this lap.
27:10But Jalik's got in front of him as well.
27:12So, yeah, a few things are starting to happen.
27:15Or maybe I just missed that part.
27:16But nonetheless, it's going to change it again.
27:19Because right now, Hayden's still in that fifth place.
27:21Mike, Ryder D only tied him in that point.
27:23So it was only one point at that.
27:26Hayden can get on the podium and still be a good recovery mode.
27:31Battle of the teammates right here.
27:34Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happened to Bozeman,
27:35who's been strong late in the races this year.
27:37But different weather conditions to date.
27:41Hottest, most humid race of the year.
27:43And the heat, the temperature-wise, was into the triple digits of Hangtown.
27:47But you added in that humidity here.
27:48Or it could be something else.
27:50Either way, he's lost pace.
27:51Remember, he was right there with Shimoda.
27:54Yeah, I believe Michael went down.
27:56Because even with the earlier lap, I saw a 228.
27:58And now I see a 227.
28:00Oh, wow.
28:01The way he's riding, he's not dropping off the pace that much.
28:04So there's something else going on.
28:06So maybe he went down, but he had to go down.
28:08Because even Jalik's only six seconds in front of him.
28:10So there's a big gap.
28:11Now you're watching his box at the bottom saying the battle for 23rd.
28:15That's what we're looking at.
28:15But it's interesting.
28:16It's actually Kitchen and Smith.
28:18Smith, who was up front, had the big off-track excursion.
28:21He got tangled in the cords way off the side of the track where that monster can is.
28:28And then Kitchen, who we thought was out, visited the mechanics area, never gave up on it.
28:32And the bid is to get to 21st place where you score a championship point.
28:38Yeah, both these guys had a little off-track excursion.
28:40So Levi had to off-track when he slid out in the first lap, an opening lap.
28:46I thought he was going to win the race.
28:48He was in position for it.
28:49Yeah, he probably was going to win the race until he went off the track.
28:51Yep.
28:52That's how quickly things can change.
28:55Look, man.
28:56The door is open because of Deegan.
28:58Had the crash.
28:58Then the bad first moto start.
29:00And then incidents.
29:01But if you're Kitchen, if you're Vial, if you're Shimoda, anyone who's had success today,
29:07are you even telling yourself that?
29:08Or are you just saying, no, man, I rode awesome?
29:11No, I mean, I don't think they're going to be like, well, because Hayden had a bad day,
29:15it's the only reason I won.
29:16I feel like, you know, Joe, he feels like he's been strong.
29:20You know, he just hasn't been in front of him.
29:22So Joe probably feels like he would have beaten Hayden no matter what Hayden would have done today.
29:26And the way he's riding, and the way Levi was riding, he was good.
29:29But I think Levi would be more disappointed on his own self because he felt like he had this race.
29:33So I don't think he's going to take any positives because he felt like he could win this moto
29:37and this overall today, JT.
29:40Yeah, just watching Hayden here.
29:41He's starting to pick up some intensity, made the pass on Moseman there,
29:44and he set his sights on Jalik Swole.
29:46I saw him took a glance over, kind of marking where Jalik was going over Oroko's leave.
29:52So I don't think this moto is quite over with for Deegan.
29:54He may make a run here for second.
29:55Yeah, you know, Hayden probably remembers getting swole up off the gate in that first moto, too.
30:01So he remembers everything.
30:04He remembers everything.
30:05That's Lance Koba.
30:06So, you know, he knows how it is.
30:09He won't miss a moment.
30:10But, yeah, now you can see Hayden again.
30:11This is that intensity.
30:13I think he was probably settled in.
30:15And that's why when, you know, when you look at a championship standpoint, Tom Vial, Levi Kitchen,
30:21I think Hayden was in that spot to where after how the day has been going,
30:24he really wouldn't have fought those guys because he would have lost those points.
30:27Those guys were in front of him.
30:28He really wouldn't have.
30:29But now those guys are out.
30:30He seems to leak in front of them.
30:32And now his whole attitude is starting to change compared to what it was a couple laps ago
30:35as he almost, looks like he almost fell off the motorcycle right there.
30:41Well, he said that Deegan doesn't forget anything.
30:43There's been some social media sparring between he and Chet Lawrence actually this week.
30:49And the rival would be expected to actually move to the track maybe next summer.
30:53Here's what I couldn't believe.
30:54Last year, Ty Masterpol edged him for the win at high point
30:57as Deegan now has swole in his sights.
31:01Masterpol on the podium said, I wasn't thinking about Deegan back there.
31:03I was trying to keep the pressure off.
31:04I was just saying, me versus me, me versus me.
31:07Deegan wins high point this year.
31:09Social media caption, me versus me.
31:11I mean, Masterpol's not even here today.
31:13Masterpol's had a rough season with illness.
31:15But Deegan still had to take that little shot.
31:18Everything, everything fires this guy up.
31:22I bet he's got a diary full of all the comments.
31:26He'd be like, let me go back off.
31:27Yep, there's what it was.
31:28High point.
31:29A year later.
31:31I'm sure he'll bring something up here.
31:32I can tell by the way he's riding.
31:34I'm sure he didn't forget about it off the gate with Jalik.
31:38So, yep.
31:39I will say this.
31:39Jalik's not one of those guys.
31:41He'll play back too.
31:43So, I want to get swole up again at the end of part of the race.
31:46I'm just going to say it.
31:47This is where Deegan is so strong, though.
31:51Late needs Modo's bone bruise in the leg or not.
31:54And that's what makes him so hard to beat in the title.
31:57Because, man, just think of the points he's salvaged in the last ten minutes.
32:01What?
32:01Almost knack-knocked his way through that turn.
32:04Leg got kicked off.
32:07Yeah, you can see how Hayden backed out in those rollers.
32:10So, if he has any kind of, you know, strength in his legs, that's where it really is going to, you know, pay dividends.
32:15It'll be hurt.
32:16So, you can see him back it out, trying to absorb that with his body.
32:23It's still a great ride by Jalik because his pass really won't change anything.
32:26He'll tie, you know, Mosman for end points, but he'll still get that second overall.
32:34But Jalik doesn't want to roll over here.
32:35Let's see what happens.
32:37Two to go.
32:38Deegan on the outside.
32:41Ah, swole trying to fight him, but Deegan gets it.
32:43I'm going to say it was a bad line situation.
32:46Okay.
32:46I'm just going to say bad line.
32:47Okay.
32:49Hey, that's not bad for the third race back from, I didn't think we'd be seeing Swole racing at all this year.
32:55But Deegan, think of the dig.
32:59He's extended the point lead.
33:00I think at one point it was 31 over Shimoda.
33:04Now it sits at 38.
33:05He's picked up seven points over the last about ten minutes of this moto by moving past Harrop, by moving past DeFrancisco, Mosman, Swole.
33:14But Joe Shimoda is going to make it a perfect day for the Red Riders at Redbud.
33:20Honda's going to win all four motos.
33:22Last time a manufacturer swept Redbud was 2008.
33:26You know what manufacturer that was and who was involved?
33:292008, James.
33:30Oh, man.
33:30Who was racing that year?
33:32Let me see.
33:32Okay.
33:32Well, Ryan Villopoto won the 250 class on a Kawasaki.
33:36Oh, Ferry?
33:38Ferry?
33:38Yeah.
33:38It was not Ferry.
33:39Ferry was probably good.
33:40But it was Ferry's teammate, James Stewart, who won on a Kawasaki in 2008.
33:44Oh, yeah.
33:45That 450 class.
33:46I did have one.
33:46I forgot about that.
33:47Okay.
33:47You won every race that year.
33:49It was something to watch.
33:49Yeah.
33:50See, that's what it was.
33:50I won all of them, but I couldn't remember which one I won.
33:52So, it's Honda's day.
33:56We mentioned that the president from Japan of Honda HRC is here.
34:01What I would do if I'm Lars, the team manager, I'd be like, yeah, this happens every week.
34:04I mean, if you're in a 450 class, it does.
34:06It does, actually.
34:07Yeah.
34:07Yeah.
34:08It makes it like Joe, man.
34:09Joe's been slacking.
34:10So, I don't know what he's been doing.
34:11Joe showed up because this is what we do every week.
34:13We just win.
34:15Well, the only non-Deegan wins in the class are going to be by Hondas because it was the
34:18other 250 rider, Hymas, who's out with injury, that did it.
34:22So, still going pretty well over there, but that Deegan riddle is very hard to solve.
34:26But Shimoda will have some momentum heading into the next race next weekend at Spring Creek.
34:32Yeah.
34:32No, I'd love to see that.
34:33And the points between 31 and 36, I mean, they all matter, but I don't think it's a huge
34:39deal.
34:39With the huge deal of the points gained, it's Joe's mind, mindset.
34:43I think now it's get that monkey off his back.
34:46I believe it's one of the first, you know, victories for Honda.
34:49I mean, he hasn't had too many coming off over to his team in the outdoors, but nonetheless,
34:53that's right.
34:53I think Joe is just more solidifying.
34:56Look, he had that second, the way he opened the season with four consecutive second places,
35:03those moto finishes, and then now he had a few motos up and down.
35:06Second moto last weekend, Joe looked like Joe.
35:09Today looked pretty easy to me, the way he's been riding, knew like it was going to happen.
35:13And I think next weekend, he can kind of continue this because Joe's not one of those type of
35:18riders.
35:18Hold on.
35:19Hold on now.
35:21He's not one of those type of riders.
35:22He rides the same all the time.
35:23I think it's just really just start dependent.
35:26And today, he's got those starts.
35:28And today, he's going to go 1-1 if he holds on.
35:31Well, that was the question at the top of the show.
35:33Who can take advantage?
35:34The answer is Shimoda.
35:36But also, listen to how the podium is looking to be shaking out right now.
35:41Swole will be second, and Moseman still third.
35:44So taking advantage, also those two riders to get on the box.
35:48Hymas is out.
35:49Shimoda, Kitchen, and Vial have been the primary Deegan fighters.
35:54Well, Kitchen threw it away with a crash.
35:56Vial had a crash early.
35:58Good job on you, Moseman and Swole, to get on the podium if it ends like this.
36:02And good job by Shimoda by taking the biggest advantage of all.
36:06You got Woody with two turns to go.
36:13It's actually going to be, as you mentioned, Shimoda's first win in pro motocross on Honda.
36:18His last win was the finale in Ironman 2023.
36:22But that was when he was still with Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki.
36:27This crowd is still going.
36:29They are.
36:30They might be a little deliverious out here with the heat.
36:33But they're going to see the number 30, another Honda win.
36:36And they cheer him to the line.
36:38Joe Shimoda sweeps Redbump 2025.
36:40And it's a Honda sweep, as mentioned.
36:44Here is Deegan.
36:46What a journey it has been today.
36:48The qualifying crash.
36:50Two crashes and a smoking motorcycle.
36:52Four teeth in Moto 1.
36:54More problems in Moto 2.
36:56He comes all the way back to second.
36:59It will be fifth overall.
37:00And the celebration begins for the rider out of Japan, Shimoda.
37:06First win of the year in pro motocross.
37:08First win of the year in pro motocross.
37:14First win of the year in pro motocross.
37:14First win of the year in pro motocross.
37:15First win of the year in pro motocross.
