00:00They don't have the inside in Turn 1. Here we go, 250 Moto 2, it's on.
00:10Deegan Rockets out, but he's still on that outside. Can he seal it?
00:13No, he can't. It's Chance Hyman again.
00:17What a start by Chance Hyman.
00:19And he leaned on Hayden.
00:20It shows me a little bit of confidence that this kid threw a little turndown.
00:23For what?
00:24To get some.
00:25But just like the first Moto, it looks like Tom Bial.
00:28Oh, Bial looking to pass Deegan here for the number two spot, and he does.
00:32I mean, it's the top three of the first Moto exactly in that order.
00:35Chance Hyman, Tom Bial, and Hayden Deegan.
00:38So, great start by them, these guys.
00:42Oh, and Masterpool was fourth. He made a mistake, lost a few spots.
00:45Shimoda, a good start. He's up to fourth now.
00:47Oh, and Bial off the track.
00:50Man, the opening parts of the race is, man, it's killing Tom.
00:54Bial, I mean, nice recovery for the first Moto, but that's going to be costly.
00:57Anytime you get past by the number one, it's going to be tough to get back around.
01:01You can see Joe Shimoda getting around the outside.
01:05Hey, the rider to watch, that is Lux Turner with the purple pass there on the AEO KTM.
01:11Oh, it's that Harrop, who is so good in the first Moto on the Triumph.
01:14He is off the track completely, though.
01:16Looks like Joe is able to get around Lux right there, back.
01:20Now, see if he can do something with Tom Bial, because it's clearly, these guys are, once you lose that toe, it's hard to make it, they make that time back up.
01:28And Joe had a terrible first Moto, considering how he's been all year long.
01:32So he's going to want to get that toe and get back up with Hayden, not lose too many points.
01:36Lux Turner, they're running well, gets the chance to mention, stay with us after this Moto on Peacock.
01:42It's part of our SMX Insider Post Race Show.
01:44We'll be covering the women's race today, where Lux's sister, Lala, is the defending champion and this year's point leader.
01:50That'll be a special feature on our show to give you the coverage of their race.
01:54Lux holding tough against the factory bikes.
01:58Now it is Casey Cochran on the number 40, making the move on Turner.
02:02And here are the leaders, Hymas and Deegan.
02:05Wow, man, Chance railed that corner right there.
02:07They fixed some of these parts to leave the track, and it's only going to get deeper and deeper.
02:11So these guys are probably super excited, a little bit flatter than it has been.
02:16Chance's confidence right now.
02:18And with Cochran moving up, we'll track his progress.
02:23Last week, Cochran on that Rockstar Gas Gas, number 40, did it from the front.
02:28Now he's making passes and moving forward.
02:31Yeah, every week, you know, Casey gets up front.
02:33He's just going to get more and more confidence to where the top five in that top ten is going to be the norm of him
02:39instead of just having these one-off races.
02:41So been very consistent.
02:42Last few races, Motos, we've seen, and we've mentioned his name.
02:45So that's good to see the young talent, Casey, up here.
02:49He's challenging Shimoda, James.
02:52Yeah, Joe's going to have to pick up the pace.
02:54Can't have no average Joe rides today.
02:56He's going to get it.
02:57He's got to get it going.
02:58Otherwise, Casey's coming up around him as well.
03:01And Shimoda on that red Honda started the year with four second-place finishes.
03:06Motos won a bad start.
03:07He was just able to get it into the top ten.
03:11Better now with the fourth.
03:13Fiala up ahead.
03:15But this thing might be breaking down to Hymas versus Deegan.
03:19Yeah, what we notice in all the Motos is that they gap, even in the top five,
03:23once these guys lose that toe, I mean, we're talking not 10, 15 seconds.
03:27We're talking 30, 40 seconds that these guys are losing.
03:31So it just shows you how difficult this track is.
03:34Once you lose the toe with the guy in front of you, man, that gap, it spreads open really quickly.
03:43Shimoda looking to reset, fending off Cochran.
03:46Then it's Turner, Masterpool, Avery Long, a rookie, riding well in eighth.
03:52Kitchen and Caden Muneer, the Australian, making his pro debut, is in tenth.
03:58Another rider on a Monster Yamaha star racing team.
04:01Here's Masterpool looking to rebuild.
04:03One quick mistake on lap one.
04:05Dropped him from fourth to seventh.
04:08Yeah, tough opening lap.
04:09And you can see Chance Hyman is going the other way.
04:11So it just shows you how quickly, you know, things can change.
04:14We see his teammate, Levi Kitchen, going to pop in our screen right here.
04:21Got Kitchen on the 47.
04:23Avery Long behind him.
04:25Good job by Avery.
04:26Man, I feel like we're seeing Kawasaki riders in unison quite a bit this year.
04:30And it's happening again.
04:31Kitchen and Masterpool.
04:33Yeah, it's good to see most of the pro second team, all of them healthy.
04:37So once they're out here, they're all pretty close in pace.
04:42So when they hook up on the racetrack, we're going to see a barrage of green bikes and green clothing.
04:48And they're still fighting.
04:49No, wait a minute.
04:50Avery Long.
04:52He's going to make the move on Kitchen.
04:54Well done to the rookie.
04:55Yeah, nice move.
04:56Levi was pulling a tear off, and he pulled in clean vision.
04:59He saw Avery getting around him.
05:03Hey, shout out there to ADO KTM's shop in Southern California dealership.
05:08They have Lux Turner and Avery Long in the top ten.
05:13Well done.
05:13They get a little support from KTM.
05:15Not a full factory team.
05:16They do get some help, and they're making it look great right now.
05:19Yeah, behind him, they got Juju, Juju Vermeer behind him, a factory KTM rider.
05:26So these suggestions, they're not taking them.
05:31No, these track markers, they are all over those things at the top of the hill.
05:35There's Long, who was a Yamaha rider, is an amateur, but when he finished, his amateur career did not have a slot.
05:43Got on with this ADO KTM team, had a huge crash.
05:46I believe it was the San Diego Supercross, was out for a long time.
05:50Great to see Avery back, and running toward the front right now at 7.
05:55This track is so difficult for these guys right now.
05:58These ruts, they seem like they never end.
06:00And once you get in it, you have to stay there.
06:03So if you make a mistake, you're going to get passed by the other guys.
06:06You can see Avery Long going for it again.
06:09And he ain't going for it.
06:10He went for it.
06:11And he went around Tom Masterpool.
06:13Wow.
06:15Now he's going after Cochran.
06:16He wants the top five.
06:17Where did this come from?
06:22Confidence.
06:24I love this.
06:25You make a couple passes?
06:26Make a couple passes, man.
06:27All the world is like, all right, I can get around these guys.
06:30And, I mean, it goes without saying anything.
06:33You make some moves, and you feel like you can just make the world.
06:36And how deep this 250 clash normally, there's another guy in front of you
06:39and another guy in front of you.
06:41So if you keep that momentum going, you can pass three or four guys.
06:43And that's what Avery's showing us.
06:45Long, lanky kid out of Minnesota.
06:52And his goal last year is an amateur.
06:54He was battling Drew Adams at the Monster Energy Amateur National at Loretta Lins.
06:59He's coming back from ACL surgery.
07:01Then the injury in Supercross.
07:02Now he's showing the talent as the Kawasaki riders are battling behind him.
07:06Oh, Beaumare in the box here.
07:08Was moving up, and now he's had problems.
07:10Yeah, it looks like he's going down because he was trying to adjust his, you know,
07:14his clutch lever at that point.
07:16But back for Avery Long, you would think him being a little bit taller,
07:19us being at altitude, that he would be at a disadvantage.
07:21But, oh, there's Beaumare.
07:23Oh, yeah, he was adjusting that.
07:25That's a tough position to be in, and you've got to come help him out.
07:30Lucky he was not on the exhaust pipe side there while he was under the bike.
07:35And now back underway is Beaumare.
07:37It's been very good to start the season.
07:40Oh, that's what the 250 class is all about.
07:42You never know.
07:43You never know who's going to come to life.
07:46And it's Avery Long right now.
07:47Yeah, it's Forrest Gump.
07:49Never know, like a box of chocolates in this class.
07:52Because Avery Long is getting around Tom Masterpool and Levi Kitchen
07:55and making his way out to Casey Cochran.
07:57And so he looks good doing it.
08:00Okay, I'm going to tell you Avery Long's moto results so far this year.
08:04Ready?
08:0521-29-2019, and he was 20th earlier today.
08:10And now he's in sixth.
08:12And when you just go back a week ago, Lance Cobush.
08:14Yeah.
08:15Out leading laps, throwing peace signs out there.
08:18So it just shows you what a star can do for these guys.
08:20And, again, they're all so close and talented.
08:24It really just comes down to belief and separation.
08:26And this is what we needed to see for these guys.
08:30Meanwhile, no change up front.
08:32Chance Heim is holding Hayden Deegan at bay.
08:35Three-second gap.
08:36So you watch these Kawasaki riders battling.
08:40It's Masterpool, Kitchen, 7th and 8th right now.
08:45We'll use that for our Rocky Mountain team update here.
08:49Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki, the most wins of any team in this 250 class.
08:53305 wins.
08:55Squad started back in 1991.
08:57They were actually a Honda team back then.
08:59Mitch Payton in the Pro Circuit unit moved to Kawasaki in 1993.
09:04And you see all the championships they have won.
09:07But it's been a while.
09:082019 with Adam and Steve Scurillo, the last time they won this one.
09:12And they're riding well in this moto.
09:14But as good as it is, it's still just 7th and 8th.
09:17Masterpool, Kitchen.
09:19And Garrett Marchbanks, who is third, their other teammate.
09:23The first moto is 18th right now.
09:26Yeah.
09:26You got Drew Adams in 11th.
09:28So, you know, one thing that makes this track really difficult is that
09:31when you get past, you lose a little bit of that time.
09:36And it's so easy to make a mistake.
09:38And for these guys like Avery, once you get around these guys,
09:41for them to come back and pass you is taking a lot of chances.
09:44And I think that's why you see guys, as we're going to watch Tom Masterpool,
09:47get on the outside and get down towards the end.
09:50But it's almost like it's easy to stay where you are.
09:53As long as you beat the guys.
09:54We're watching Jet Lawrence beat the guy to the next corner.
09:57These guys are going to have to try really hard.
10:00And it's easy to make a lot of mistakes.
10:01So, for guys like Avery Long, he can finish up here.
10:04He can continue going.
10:05As I say that, come on, Avery.
10:07I'm hooking you up.
10:08I'm saying it's easy.
10:09And you let Levi open the kitchen up on you.
10:12So, still a good ride by him.
10:15And Masterpool got by as well.
10:17Yes.
10:17So, that will push Long back to, I think, 8th now.
10:20And Masterpool and Kitchen continue their battle.
10:23Yeah.
10:23So, my whole point was just how difficult this racetrack is.
10:26We've seen a lot of mistakes for a lot of these guys.
10:29Just because how deep these ruts are, to make a pass on this racetrack is easy to make a lot of mistakes.
10:34Which means, if you don't get it done, you lose that much time.
10:39So, having a three-second lead here makes it really difficult for the guy to really try to make up a lot of time by going a lot faster.
10:45Because, clearly, they can catch you.
10:47But, trying to get around you is a whole different story with these long ruts.
10:49And, you're just seeing mistakes after mistakes all day long.
10:52And, I think, that's why these guys are so separated between the leaders and these guys.
10:56Well, that's the story up front, too.
10:58Because, high miss continues with the three-second gap over Deegan.
11:02But, I'll tell you, I feel like they've been out here for a while.
11:05It's only 11 minutes into a 30-minute moto.
11:08Lots of time for Deegan to try to lock it down.
11:11And, he has taken it to two and a half seconds.
11:13Well, the Pro Circuit boys keep battling.
11:18Let's see if Levi.
11:20You know, you can see Ty kind of sitting up a little bit.
11:23He's not going to try to fight him too much until he realizes as his teammate.
11:26Then, you're going to have to fight him.
11:27But, definitely not moving forward like he was that first moto for a little while.
11:33Wheel to wheel over the finish.
11:35Kitson gets it done.
11:39Ty comes back.
11:42Throw a tear off at him.
11:44That looked like road racing there, hitting the front stretch side by side.
11:51So, Kitson is now sixth.
11:53Shout-out again to Casey Cochran, who has left them behind, at least for the moment.
11:57About three seconds up the track.
12:01Cochran, let's see if he can finish it this time, though.
12:03He was very quick early in the motos last week.
12:07Can he get it at the end?
12:09It actually ended up being a season-best 11th, as you see Cochran last week.
12:12Get a moto at hangtone.
12:15This right now, that would be a huge improvement.
12:17No, that would be a huge improvement.
12:18And, again, I think the consistency of what we're watching with Casey, every week we're talking about him.
12:23Because he's up front.
12:24He's closer up front.
12:25So, no matter of top five, you know, he continues to do this.
12:28Then those top five are going to...
12:30No! It's Avery Long!
12:33It was like some bike issue.
12:34So, that's what it was.
12:35It wasn't Avery.
12:36He was having some bike problems.
12:37So, I can't say so much.
12:39Just this elevation and how hard these guys are pushing it is easy to happen.
12:45We just saw the same thing happen at Hayden Deacon about an hour and a half ago.
12:48That's true.
12:49Well, much like we said about Cochran last week, he didn't get the result, but he showed speed.
12:56That really applies for Avery Long as well.
12:58I was there.
12:58I was top five until the bike let me down.
13:00That's all you're going to say.
13:02Battle still raging here between Shimoda and Vial.
13:06Shimoda now third.
13:07Vial back to fourth.
13:10And it leads to this question.
13:13Does Deacon have something up his sleeve for the second half of the race to go after Hymas?
13:18Send it to Will.
13:20Thank you, Jason.
13:21I'm always curious what we were going to see him change in this moto after we saw the mechanical issues there in the first one.
13:27We're just talking to this mechanic, Brent Dunphy.
13:29I said, have you told him to sort of look after the bike as such as moto?
13:32He's like, no.
13:33He's like, mechanically, what he called it is we've taken a precaution mechanically.
13:38His instructions were, go out and do you.
13:41Go out and ride how you normally do.
13:43Don't worry about the bike.
13:44It's going to make it.
13:45And he just told me, wait for about ten laps to go.
13:47We're going to see him start to push.
13:49Well, thank you.
13:50He might need to worry about those track markers.
13:52He was right on the inside of that one at the top of the hill.
13:54JT.
13:54Just watching Hayden Deegan here, he kind of feels stuck in second place.
13:59The track position has been so important, regardless if it's 250 class or 450 class.
14:04And I want to circle back to that update we had right before the start of the moto about those gate positions.
14:09And would that outside positioning work?
14:11Well, right now, they're two, four, and five.
14:15So I would say it was the right move.
14:16A little unorthodox, but it certainly paid off.
14:18Yeah, we might be able to point that out, James, as they hook back on to the start, the next lap around.
14:24Why those outside gates actually work.
14:26So they're drag racing up the hill.
14:28They hook back on.
14:30Deegan had taken it down to 2.5, 2.7.
14:32Now it's 3.2.
14:33Yeah, and that's what I was mentioning earlier when we were showing Tom Ascrow and Levi Kitchen.
14:39You know, Hayden's able to close in on chance.
14:41And you're going to see these lap times, you know, fluctuate.
14:45But he's got to make up that time.
14:47But making that time, you've got to go faster.
14:49And it's just so easy to make a mistake.
14:51And once you do that, you just lose so much time.
14:53So this little gap that Chance Hyman has, it might as well be five or, you know, eight seconds in a normal race
15:00because of the chance that Hayden has to take to catch him.
15:03We've been watching that all day long in the 450 class, time after time.
15:07Guys will make that time, and then they'll get there, and they'll make a mistake.
15:10And it's just so easy to happen how difficult this racetrack is.
15:13Look at, I mean, look at all these rugs.
15:15It's quite a few.
15:17And the track's only going to get rougher in the second half of the moto.
15:19So we'll remind you that Monster Energy is available now at Maverick.
15:26Vial has reason to keep charging after Shimoda.
15:30They're actually tied in points of the day.
15:32Shimoda is going to, actually, sorry, no.
15:35Vial is one point ahead of Shimoda for third overall.
15:42And Shimoda wants to keep that streak going, a podium to start the year.
15:47So right now, Shimoda's going to need to have something happen.
15:51He needs someone to catch Vial, or he needs to catch Deegan.
15:54But Deegan and Hymas have built up a huge gap.
15:56They have been the class of the field today.
15:59Yeah, we've been watching these gaps.
16:01As I said earlier, you get the leaders in the top, the guys who are battling for up front,
16:07and then 30 seconds, you know, 40 seconds to the other guys.
16:10And it's just really hard to keep that flow going if you're not chasing a rabbit in front of you.
16:15It's coming undone now for Masterpool.
16:17It was a little sick coming into the race.
16:19Better than he felt last week, but not good enough now to hold off Max Folland on that Club MX.
16:24Muck off Yamaha.
16:25The 92 has taken over 7th.
16:28Good to see Max.
16:28We haven't talked about him in a couple weeks, so good to see him out here with a big change
16:34and, you know, using a handbrake out here.
16:37I know that's been a difficult thing to get used to, but Max has done a phenomenal job
16:41to learn how to ride, basically re-ride a motorcycle, and, you know, use that handbrake
16:46instead of a normal traditional footbrake.
16:48And really cool to watch these guys come out here and battle, and good to see Max up front.
16:53Yeah, riding well, putting Masterpool behind him.
16:56Moseman is knight, and Minear, again, in his pro debut, is running in 10th.
17:06Let's hear these guys laboring in these corners.
17:12Yeah, really excited to see that Caden Minear.
17:15Yeah.
17:16Graduated his first pro race for the next program last week, and he was racing that and won both motos,
17:22and now he's out here racing these guys, and I do believe if he can continue,
17:26we're going to see that kid up in the top five because that kid has some talent.
17:30This track might not show how good he's actually riding because how difficult this racetrack is
17:34and how time is in essence and track positions in X, but top ten so far.
17:41Yeah, well done.
17:42Another Australian, by the way, Minear, in 10th.
17:45You've got to check in with Chance Hymas, who is now pulling away from Deegan.
17:49It's now 4.2 seconds.
17:52It's an impressive ride for the 10, but still 12 minutes and two laps to go.
17:58The check-in with the Fly Racing riders, and that includes Hymas with the Fly Racing gear.
18:04Companies based in Idaho, they have backed the Idaho-based Hymas for a long time.
18:09Cochran is fifth, also wearing Fly.
18:11Schwartz, 12th.
18:12DeFrancisco, 13th.
18:14Parker Ross is 34th.
18:17Can Chance get this done?
18:23This is Moe's a minute master pulled out for a ninth.
18:27Yeah, Moe's been around the outside, James.
18:29Yeah, you know, Michael's been seeing him pass a lot of guys who's just been having a hard time finishing it with some crashes here and there.
18:35So, Michael's been doing what he's been doing all year long, and Ty, as you just mentioned earlier, he's definitely starting to feel it from the sickness or whatever is going on.
18:44But definitely going along the wrong direction.
18:47And once you start doing it here, man, it's tough when that altitude really catches up to you.
18:53Now he's got his teammate.
18:55I mean, Muneer, I think, coming through next.
18:57There's a lap rider there.
18:59That's March Banks.
18:59Oh, no, that is March Banks.
19:01Where did he come from?
19:02We had about 14th.
19:03This guy does not give up.
19:05We'll see in a second here.
19:08Lost that number plate.
19:11Did March Banks.
19:13There's Moe's been up ahead.
19:19And he's charging after Boland.
19:21His 250 class is just relentless.
19:23Yeah.
19:23No matter how far back you go, there's another battle.
19:26It is, and they all wear it.
19:28On the same team, they all wear the same gear.
19:30So, excuse me, sometimes I'm, like, pausing, trying to figure out which number these guys are.
19:35But they kind of ride the same.
19:38They look the same.
19:39I think March Banks might be a lap down.
19:42And we have him in 35th.
19:43He was hovering around, getting close to the top 10.
19:47But he must have gone down.
19:48You saw the number plate dangling.
19:49He's still going.
19:50But he's way back now.
19:52Man, what a tough break for March Banks, who was third in the first moto.
19:56Moseman attacking these bruts here on the 93.
19:59Yeah, I think that's really impressed with Michael so far.
20:03It is out there season.
20:04I mean, I know the results haven't been what he wanted, but he's been riding really good.
20:09He just, I mean, if he finishes things off, he had a couple top five.
20:12So, if he keep this thing up, that'd be nice.
20:15Deegan's down.
20:17Deegan has crashed.
20:18Back up.
20:20And I was just looking at the lap times.
20:21He actually closed it down within two seconds.
20:24And as soon as we've been talking about it all day long, once those guys get there, just him pushing it,
20:28he can close the gap.
20:29But passing somebody is a whole different.
20:31And that mistake caught him out.
20:32We've seen a few of them so far today where he's been near misses.
20:36That one seems like it caught him out.
20:37Well, Eli Tomek really articulated that on the podium.
20:40He admitted that he rushed to corner because he knew his best passing opportunity was on the horizon.
20:46Yeah, but you know what, Hayden?
20:47That's my fault.
20:48I wasn't able to get you the keys to the race before this.
20:51And my keys were to be patient.
20:52So, you know, you can't, I'm not going to blame you.
20:55Oh, there they are.
20:57Well done.
20:57There we go.
20:58So, it was track conditions.
21:00And you have to have a plan and be patient.
21:02We heard Eli say he rushed it in.
21:04And it's hard.
21:05It's hard to do.
21:06It's hard to do is really easy to do in the sense of, you know, once you get all decided, catch him in.
21:10And we saw what happened with Eli Tomek in that 450 class.
21:13Any chance you get close to Jet Lawrence, you're going to take it.
21:15And I believe Hayden Deegan.
21:17Yep, he closed that gap.
21:19Starts losing their front end.
21:21Now, there's two runs right there.
21:22And it looks like he was trying to get to the inside.
21:23But the back tire was over it.
21:25And we've seen Hayden do that a few times today where he's losing the front end, goes off the racetrack.
21:31And that might have cost him his first overall victory of the day.
21:34But all that being said, it's all caused because of what we're watching, what Chance Hymus is doing out front.
21:45So, Deegan now 8.3 seconds back.
21:47Is that it?
21:48And under normal circumstances, I'd say, yeah, it's over.
21:53But you just never know with how relentless this guy is.
21:57And he looks like he's still pushing the pace.
21:59Yeah, that was beautiful, that little hop over.
22:01So, yeah, it's maybe not over.
22:03Chance goes in every conservative mode.
22:05We see how quickly things can change at this racetrack.
22:07A couple other battles here.
22:09You've got Jordan Smith on the triumph of the 19, Ryder DeFrancisco.
22:13And there's Caden Muneer, pro debut today after, as you mentioned, going 1-1 last week in SMX Next.
22:20So, that is the end of his amateur career with those SMX Next combine races.
22:25He told me yesterday he still might race the Loretta Lynn's amateur national by Monster Energy in August.
22:32But I have a feeling if he keeps riding like this, that might not happen.
22:36Yeah, people keep an eye on this kid.
22:39Remember this name.
22:39This kid is good.
22:41This kid's going to be really good.
22:42And like I said, the track, how difficult this racetrack is.
22:45I mean, right now he's in 11th place, but he's riding good, especially on this track.
22:51He might want to go back to the next program.
22:53He'd be like, man, if this is what I've got to deal with every single weekend, I don't want it.
22:57But luckily for him, he has an opportunity, just like last weekend at Hangtown,
23:00our next program gives these riders an opportunity on a supercross track and a motocross track.
23:05So, it might be his first race, but he's kind of familiar to these settings.
23:09And that's what's so cool about that whole program.
23:12And it's showing out right now.
23:13A couple years ago, Hayden Deegan was in this same program.
23:16That's right.
23:16And now look where he's at.
23:17Yep.
23:18Hymas as well.
23:19Here's something interesting.
23:20It's the next generation of Australians.
23:22So, the Lawrences are quite young, you would think.
23:25But I asked Cade Minear, did you really see them when you were growing up?
23:27But he said their last race in Australia is 2015.
23:30He was seven years old.
23:33So, we have a whole other wave.
23:35They were long gone.
23:36They went to Europe.
23:37They came to the United States.
23:38And he and Cole Davies, his teammate who's out injured right now from New Zealand, they grew up racing against each other.
23:44So, a whole other group coming to the United States and making names for themselves now.
23:50Yeah, but they happen to be on that star racing Yamaha.
23:52They got a factory of babies out there, full talent.
23:55Yeah, shout out to Cole Davies.
23:57He was going to be one of these guys that I thought was going to give Hayden Deegan some fits in this.
24:01But, injury at our last Supercross.
24:04But he's going to be up here just like his teammates.
24:06Anytime you can make Jet Lawrence seem like he's old, these kids are young.
24:11So, I have to tell you right there.
24:13Look at this, Dylan Schwartz.
24:16Aggressive around Masterpool on the Toyota of Redlands, Bar X Yamaha.
24:21You know, I know the 450 is the top notch of the class.
24:25But, man, I can tell you one thing.
24:26When you start going backwards in the 250 class, it's relentless.
24:30These guys continue.
24:31And you can turn a top ten to outside, not even scoring points.
24:36Because there's always somebody coming.
24:38Somebody's always coming.
24:39And you can see Dylan Schwartz just making his way up.
24:42That's what this guy does.
24:43JT and I were talking about it this week.
24:46He definitely doesn't get tired.
24:47You never see Schwartz up there early in the moto.
24:49He got as high as sixth in moto one.
24:52But he is something special down the stretch.
24:55You don't always realize.
24:56You look at the end of the day, the results.
24:57You're like, oh, another solid ride for Dylan Schwartz.
25:00It's happening again.
25:01He's in ninth.
25:01Yeah, well, we're going to highlight it.
25:03I mean, he started, what, 12th on the first lap.
25:05And then I saw a highlight.
25:07He was in 20th at some point.
25:08So, he went down.
25:10But Dylan making his way back up into ninth place right now.
25:14Ride right to Alpine, California.
25:16Oh, this is going to be interesting.
25:18Kitchen has caught Vial.
25:22That might push Vial off the overall podium.
25:26He has that one-point bulge over Shimoda.
25:31Kitchen has come a long way to get to him.
25:34And he might have the pass here, James.
25:36He does.
25:37No, he has the pass.
25:38Tom's starting to sit up as well.
25:39I mean, it's a frustrating, so far, motocross year for Tom Vial.
25:43And I thought it started off pretty solid.
25:46I mean, at Pauly, he was up there.
25:47And then just things, crashes.
25:50He's another title contender.
25:51And when things aren't going right, it's just hard to stay motivated.
25:54You can see that with Tom.
25:55He's starting to labor.
25:56And the kitchen's open for business.
25:59He's moving his way on as quickly as he was there.
26:01He's gone now.
26:03Wow.
26:03So that's going to push Shimoda to third overall because it costs Vial.
26:09One more position.
26:13Bottom box.
26:14Tracking the leader.
26:15Time running out for Deegan to try to mount a last-ditch effort.
26:20I don't even know if he's going to try here.
26:22Might just say the points are good enough today.
26:24It's tough to say with a hard charger like Deegan.
26:27But Chance Heim is answering a lot of questions today.
26:30Yeah, well, Chance is in a tough position because he's, at this point,
26:34he knows he's got about five laps left.
26:36He's almost trying to just milk this thing in.
26:39When you got Hayden Deegan probably upset after that first moto.
26:42And as I mentioned, in that first moto, the last guy on this track,
26:45anyone that Hayden Deegan wants to have confidence is that it's this kid right here.
26:49So he might put a charge in in the last lap.
26:52Hayden Deegan was a second and a half, almost two seconds faster than Chance Heimis.
26:57And he just ran a 2.15.
27:00Hayden Deegan, that is another two seconds faster.
27:02So that gap is coming down.
27:05Uh-oh.
27:06And we can do a little math here.
27:08Three minutes and two laps left.
27:10What do you think?
27:11Four laps to go?
27:12Something like that?
27:13Three?
27:15Yeah, no.
27:16I mean, it's possible.
27:17Yep.
27:18It's possible.
27:18We're seeing Joe Shimoda quiet third place out here.
27:22His teammates 42 seconds ahead of him and up front.
27:26But to answer your question, yeah, Jason, it could happen.
27:31Okay.
27:32Kitchen.
27:33Hey, wait.
27:34If he passes Shimoda, it'll actually put Fial back on the overall podium.
27:39But also Kitchen herself would be knocking on the door for that podium.
27:46Levi has really come to life here in the last 10 minutes.
27:49Yeah, that might change the points up for Levi.
27:51End up on anything.
27:52Joe's probably like, I thought we were friends, Levi.
27:54I thought we were friends.
27:55Will.
27:56Yeah.
27:56Joe Shimoda would obviously very much like to hang on to this third overall there and
28:02be on the podium for the first three rounds of the season.
28:05It's an extremely strong start.
28:07It may have surprised some, but talking to his mechanic, Ben Griffith, it has not surprised
28:12them.
28:12And he said, Joe's really kind of tightened up in his inner circle this year.
28:16He said, let's look back at the beginning of Supercross.
28:18He won Anaheim one.
28:20He got injured and broke his finger at the second round.
28:22And so he said, really, he was set up to do this then, to start strong in the season.
28:27When I asked him kind of what they changed to achieve that, he said, this has just kind
28:31of been a case of just narrowing everything down for Joe, keeping it simple.
28:35We don't look at the whole season.
28:37We look at weekend to weekend.
28:38He said, even when it comes to messages on his pit boy, it's like I tell him about the
28:42guy in front of him or the situation in front of him.
28:44So it's just about sort of narrowing that viewpoint down for Joe.
28:47And we've seen him with a very strong start, 2-2, 2-2, through the first few rounds.
28:52And he'd obviously, like I said, like to hang on to this one, too.
28:55Well, thanks, Will.
28:57He's going to have to be tough if he wants that podium, though, because, yes, if Kitchen
29:02passes, Kitchen will be on the podium with an 8-3.
29:07That would be enough for third.
29:09That is wild.
29:10James, you're looking out the window there.
29:12You're seeing lap traffic in front of the leader.
29:15Yeah, I'm just looking at the lap times and the two leaders out here.
29:19They're going almost 10 seconds faster than anybody on this racetrack.
29:22And Chance just answered the bell by going 2-15.
29:25But Hayden Deegan went 2-14.
29:27So that gap is coming down.
29:29And what we saw with Joe Shimoda, sometimes when you don't have anybody at Chase, it's hard
29:35to push forward.
29:35And I believe Joe didn't even know that Levi was that close because once he got there,
29:39you heard him rail that berm up on top.
29:41And now he's starting to get away from it.
29:42So Chance might fall in that same situation.
29:44And it's hard to pick up the pace when you start conserving and trying to ride this thing
29:49out with three laps left.
29:50But Kitchen made a huge mistake in a left-hander and lost a lot of ground to Shimoda.
29:56So now he's got to go back to work if he wants that overall podium.
30:00And there are bonuses on the line.
30:02And I'm going to say $250,000 class, general estimate $20,000, $30,000 for a third-place finish.
30:07So that's what they're fighting over right now.
30:09Shimoda versus Kitchen.
30:11That would be third in the moto and third overall.
30:15And we go back, Jason.
30:16Two years ago, we saw Levi come out here.
30:19And I think he got 11th in the first moto.
30:21And then came out and dominated these guys in the second one, like 11-1 or something like that.
30:26Hey, Shimoda's bike is steaming, James.
30:27And suddenly, Kitchen is there.
30:30Man, it's the altitude.
30:32These boys are putting – not only are they hot, but bikes are running hot.
30:35Oh, the lap traffic not doing Kitchen any favors.
30:40Oh, I thought Joe almost had a pick-and-roll moment right there.
30:43He's using some basketball terminology right here.
30:46But Levi, he's on a roll right here.
30:49And Joe better close the door because Levi's going to kick it open.
30:55Kitchen on the inside.
30:56Oh, and now a lap rider goes down.
30:57They're able to avoid him.
30:59Kitchen on the inside.
31:00Can he get it done?
31:02Oh, Shimoda fought back.
31:03Yeah, there was a nice line by Levi.
31:05He took the suggestion line over there.
31:08Yeah, they're all flirting with those track markers, no doubt about it.
31:11Shimoda holding him off.
31:12No change in the gap up front.
31:14Still five seconds between Deegan and Hymas.
31:20Smoke him out, Joe.
31:21Smoke him out.
31:22That's literally smoking Joe right now.
31:24Smoking Joe out here, yeah.
31:26We have seen a scenario.
31:27I remember Cooper Webb was saying at round one, he had steam coming out of his bike.
31:31A lot of times, the riders at first don't even realize.
31:33No, you don't realize it.
31:35Unless there's like antifreeze or something on the bike where you're starting to slip, he's not going to look down because, one, it's hard enough.
31:42Everything with all these ruts out here, you're looking forward.
31:44So you'll just see your mechanic.
31:45If he tells you something, then you might look or you get in these slow corners.
31:50But, yeah, Joe, he don't know he's smoking yet.
31:52But Kitchen does.
31:56So he wants to apply some of that heat and get back to third.
32:00Surely by now, Kitchen has received a message on the pit board that this is for the overall podium.
32:06And that'd be two in a row for him.
32:12Hymas stretched it back out.
32:155.9 with two to go.
32:19Yeah, very impressive.
32:21Looking at the lap times with Chance, being able to answer the bell with Hayden Deegan.
32:25We always see once he gets to that 15-minute mark, Hayden gets stronger and stronger.
32:30So for Chance to build or answer that, make Hayden make mistakes, you know, have his bike smoke in the first moto.
32:36But not only that, maybe if he can hold him off another lap in the half.
32:41Man, Jason, I think we're going to have some battles with these two guys.
32:43Just as we're watching Joe Shimoda and Levi Kitchen go for it.
32:45Let's see if Levi can go after another attack.
32:50Levi crossed by eight ruts going right there.
32:53It has been fun to watch a 47, man.
32:55He is loose.
32:56Letting it hang out right now.
32:58And makes it happen.
33:07Great move by Levi.
33:09And one thing that's different this weekend, these guys are not used to riding in the second motos.
33:13You know, they're normally first, so the track's a lot rougher than it used to be.
33:16This is Jet Lawrence and Eli Tomac.
33:19This is what they're supposed to deal with.
33:20So for them, difficult racetrack.
33:24Let's see if Joe can have a response.
33:26Will?
33:26Well, this will be a nice rescue result here for the day.
33:30Because talking to Levi yesterday, he had his sights set on the overall win.
33:34He saw the conditions here, the rats as an opportunity in order to kind of get back into this series.
33:40He did obviously get a 3-3 there last weekend at Hangtown.
33:44But when I asked him kind of what's with the slow start, he said, to be honest, this is just, you know, three and a half, four months off the bike.
33:50It's like when you've got that kind of time in between gate drops and a little bit of nerves come in.
33:54And I just got to sort of, I got to race this out.
33:56So a great step forward here for Levi Kitchen.
33:59Yeah, that's wild.
34:00He's looking at an 8-3 moto score for third overall.
34:05But everyone has had their problems today for the most part.
34:08And, James, how about the fact that Hymas and Deegan have nearly a minute over everyone else?
34:15Wow.
34:15No, that's the way this track has been set up.
34:19I mean, we're watching these guys, and I'm sure I sound like a broken record talking about, you know, once you get close to making a mistake.
34:25But, I mean, the proof is out here.
34:26I mean, as quickly as Levi was able to get around Joe, it took him a long time to be able to do that because he kept making mistakes.
34:32And let's see if Joe can do the same thing.
34:35He's close to him.
34:38White flags out.
34:39This is for the podium.
34:40Shimoda not giving up.
34:42Smoking Joe is going back after the kitchen.
34:45Lap rider on the outside.
34:47They clear him.
34:49Okay, clearly they both have the word at this point.
34:50This is for the podium because they are going for it on the final lap.
34:55Yeah, no, this is the difference between coach class and first class right here on the plane.
34:59So, you better get through it.
35:01This podium means a lot to these guys.
35:03Oh, yeah.
35:03Bonus money on the line, I'm sure, for both.
35:06And a little confidence, too, because Kitchen clapped up on the podium last week.
35:10Shimoda has been the second best guy behind Deegan in the first couple races.
35:15Now we're seeing the kitchen and Hymas.
35:17We expected.
35:18Joe's not going to give up on it.
35:25And look at these.
35:26And these guys are jumping down these hills into those ruts, the sun, the way that the shadows are.
35:33Super difficult.
35:34And at most tracks, you'd think this race is over as far as on the podium.
35:38But, man, we see how quickly guys can make mistakes.
35:41Joe can be back up on another corner or two if Levi makes one.
35:44The owl back in fifth.
35:49Well done, Casey Cochran hanging on right now in sixth.
35:51But, no one doing it better than this.
35:55Sheckard flag is out.
35:56Chance Hymas does it.
35:581-1 for the overall in Colorado.
36:02Battle continues.
36:04Shimoda in Kitchen.
36:05Let's see what Joe does.
36:08Pushes.
36:08We saw him just let off the brakes last week.
36:11He didn't play the game of chicken with Casey.
36:13So, let's see what happened to Joe.
36:15I believe Chance Hymas hit neutral.
36:18I think he wanted to do a whip and came up short.
36:21But, nonetheless, this battle for third place is still on.
36:23And you would think they're nearing the finish.
36:27But, since they were a minute back, there's still a lot of racetrack to go.
36:31Even though Hymas and Deacon have already gone to the finish line.
36:35Yeah, Hymas is on his way to the press conference already.
36:39Here comes Shimoda.
36:46Man, these bikes are struggling.
36:48Joe ain't smoking no more.
36:49So, he's probably happy this race is over with.
36:51Last turn.
36:52Kitchen does it.
36:548-3 for third overall.
36:58And Shimoda will end up fourth.
