00:00trust but verify um you know look i would say that we are stricter than most parents in our
00:11community um we want our kids to never feel like they are alienated but we have a lot of parental
00:19controls over everything that they do have access to we limit the amount of um traditional screen
00:27time uh we want them to be able to use screens but it needs to be with every safety precaution
00:35um and truly i mean this when i say this it's it's like putting this device in their hands
00:42instead of one in which they can tend to get lost in what i call empty calories is really positive
00:50it's really it's it's wonderful and i've now seen the kids using them more often than not and i get
00:58such joy because i know that literally the only thing they can do on it is read or listen to audio
01:05books or engage in all things literature and to me that is essential like you know now i'm a published
01:16author the amount that reading has changed my life um is something i want them to have in their
01:24own lives my oldest daughter is now a songwriter and i'm like you you need not only do you need to
01:30expand your vocabulary but you need to learn about different uh you know different places different
01:37characters different environments different times you know with regard to history like you different
01:45cultures you need to pull from something in order to reflect back to society what you want
01:52to teach and so it's been amazing because the more she reads i find the more her songs become you know
02:01far more complex and mature i am neither here to encourage nor discourage when it comes to if they
02:07want this to be their profession the only thing i mandate is something that was mandated to me which is
02:13you're going to have the experiences that i think every child should have which is you know a healthy
02:25relationship with um education through high school and hopefully beyond um and then when the time is
02:33right the opportunities will hopefully be there and i'll always help you as much as i can but at the end of
02:40the day it's going to come down to their talent and whether or not they want to do what this is
02:47which is as much rejection as it is anything else and you need to have a tough hide for that and even
02:54though you know my kids are my kids i'm never going to be able to give them a leg up beyond what
03:00they themselves earn and so as long as they're sober about that and as long as like this is really what
03:07they want to do i will always be there to support them in the same way my parents supported me
