00:07Yoh Han Koo, who was appointed as South Korea's new trade envoy last month, is due to hold talks in Washington on Saturday with US Trade Representative Jameson Greer and other senior officials.
00:20Yoh said the substance of negotiations mattered more than the deadline.
00:25He added that he would ask the US to accelerate talks to reach what he called a win-win deal.
00:31Seoul is seeking exemptions from President Trump's sweeping tariffs on imported autos and steel products.
00:37It is also trying to negotiate a 25% reciprocal levy announced by Trump in April.
00:43In a parliamentary hearing on Friday, Yoh said the US was pushing for better access to agriculture and automotive sectors,
00:50as well as improved digital market access and non-discriminatory treatment.
00:56The two countries had agreed in April to work towards a deal reducing tariffs by July,
01:00but negotiations have stalled amid political uncertainty in South Korea.
