00:00Good morning, everyone.
00:02This is essentially an all-out assault against Los Angeles.
00:07The lawsuit is an attempt to overturn the will of the city, calling for a halt to long-standing
00:14policy to protect immigrant Angelenos.
00:18We are a city of immigrants who have had policies in place for decades.
00:23Ironically, originally, the law was for public safety so the newly arrived immigrant population
00:31that was being preyed on by criminals would feel safe in reporting crimes to law enforcement.
00:37As the city attorney said yesterday, our city remains committed to standing up for our constitutional
00:44rights and the rights of our residents.
00:46We will defend our ordinance and continue to defend policies that reflect the long-standing
00:53values of our city.
00:55We know that Los Angeles is the test case, and we will stand strong.
01:00And we do so because the people snatched off city streets and chased through parking lots
01:06are our coworkers, our neighbors, our family members, and they are Angelenos.
01:12Let me be clear, I personally won't be intimidated by these tactics.
01:16We will not be intimidated by these tactics.
01:19I will always protect Angelenos against the unwarranted and cruel actions of this administration.
01:26What the federal government should do is stay in Washington and remove the troops and do
01:33not have ICE raids in our city.
01:35That's what the federal government should do.
01:36Next.
01:37Next question.
01:38Well, first of all, I'm named in the lawsuit, so that is my role.
01:42They have determined my role.
01:43In terms of the actions that the city council is taking today, they're taking them today.
01:47So I have not had an opportunity to review what they're doing.
01:51I definitely support the city attorney participating in defending us and then in other lawsuits.
01:58For example, and it's been reported over and over again, we don't know who these masked
02:03men are.
02:04They're riding up and down the street, pulling people off the street, completely masked, wearing
02:09very dubious uniforms, not showing their ID.
02:13And so there is absolutely a push to allow, to have that stop.
02:19Next.
02:20I think they want the chaos.
02:21I think we're the petri dish for the nation.
02:24Basically, if the public will tolerate the federal seizure of state power, which is what
02:30they did in terms of taking the power away from Governor Newsom around the troops, whether
02:36or not, let's see how far can we push the envelope.
02:39Will the American public tolerate Marines driving up and down the street?
02:42Mayors across the city, across the country are very concerned.
02:47I've been on Zoom calls with over 100 mayors looking at what is happening in LA.
02:51This is the test case and we're going to pass the test.
02:55We are going to be doing a deep analysis to see how we would response.
03:00What would the impact be if federal funding was pulled?
03:04But you know, you can't, you can't govern the city that way.
03:07We have to function and move forward and do the best that we can given these circumstances.
03:13Thank you very much.
03:29I'll see you next time.
