00:00A wild weather system pummeled Sydney for a second day on Wednesday, with the storm
00:05forcing the cancellation of dozens of flights, bringing down trees and taking out power to
00:10thousands of homes in Australia's southeast. The storm forced the cancellation of dozens
00:16of flights, uprooted trees and left tens of thousands of homes without electricity. The
00:22New South Wales State Emergency Service has issued seven emergency warnings as conditions
00:27worsened overnight. We are very grateful that the communities
00:31in these areas heeded our warnings. That has meant that there has not been as much damage
00:37to property and impact to lives as what could have been. But we did see conditions deteriorate
00:43overnight. Intense rainfall reached 150mm of rain in some areas and in the Ulladulla area
00:51over 200mm. As a result, the New South Wales State Emergency Service has issued seven emergency
00:59warnings overnight. Approximately 335 properties have been impacted by these emergency warnings.
01:08A coastal low pressure system, described by meteorologists as a bomb cyclone, smashed Australia's southeast
01:15coast coast overnight with wind gusts of more than 100km per hour, uprooting trees and damaging
01:22power lines. More than 35,000 properties were without power in New South Wales after the storm
01:29overnight. Contas Airways and Virgin Australia have cancelled at least 55 domestic flights in
01:36and out of Sydney on Wednesday. Conditions are expected to worsen before the system eases and move
01:42into the Tasman Sea and then track toward New Zealand on Thursday.
