When electrical engineering became the biggest challenge in my DIY campervan build, I turned to artificial intelligence for help - and the results were mind-blowing!
This video documents my journey from electrical confusion to crystal-clear solutions using ChatGPT. After struggling with cable selection, voltage drop calculations, and power requirements, I fed all my data into AI and received detailed engineering analysis that even professional electricians validated.
What You'll See:

Why I abandoned marine plywood for my bed base (crucial moisture lesson!)
Complete installation of 23 meters of 6G cable and 11 meters of 12G cable
My systematic approach to cable organization with professional labeling
Future-proofing strategies using strategic conduit placement

Technical Highlights:

AI-calculated power requirements for LED lights and ventilation fans
Voltage drop analysis across different cable runs
Professional cable management techniques for mobile applications
Integration planning for solar controller and 240V systems

This isn't just another van build video - it's a demonstration of how modern technology can enhance traditional craftsmanship. I share the complete AI consultation process, showing how to leverage artificial intelligence for complex electrical design challenges.
Whether you're building your own mobile home or curious about practical AI applications in DIY projects, this episode provides valuable insights into smart problem-solving approaches.
Follow our Australian adventure as we document the complete transformation from basic van to fully-equipped mobile home, combining traditional building skills with cutting-edge technology solutions.

00:00G'day, it's Matt here from Couple of Cities again and wow, we've been shopping.
00:05There's a box down here. We're going to be chucking a bed base in.
00:09We've decided not to go with the marine ply as a base.
00:12Some concerns in relation to the breathability.
00:15There's been quite a few people we've seen who've travelled through parts of Australia that we're going to
00:19where they've demonstrated that they've got increased moisture collecting
00:24because they've used a marine ply base and there's no real airflow around the mattress.
00:28Some of them actually look like maybe the mattress is up against a window
00:32and the window has just been collecting condensation and it's just been sucked into the mattress and the bedding that way.
00:39So we're not too sure but for a couple of reasons, we're going to shift to an IKEA base which is quite light
00:47and we're also going to be using the marine ply that we were putting aside for the bed base
00:53to help build some of the cabinetry.
00:55So that's one part.
00:58We will get to that in another video.
01:00But what we have got for you today, lots of cable.
01:05So I had a couple of concerns in relation to what kind of cable I actually needed
01:12to make sure that we'd have the right kind of power making its way from the battery
01:17all the way back to the appliances.
01:18And you know what?
01:21I had a chat with the guys at Sandgate and they said, yep, sounds like you're on the right track.
01:27After I put it all into chat, GPT and said, all right, GPT, here's what I've got.
01:33Here's what I'm doing.
01:35Here's what I want to achieve.
01:36Tell me, is this cable going to be suitable?
01:38And yeah, GPT looked at like power loss and draw and all sorts of stuff.
01:44I'll put a link to it in the description and we'll probably even throw together a bit of a blog post for it
01:51because I was blown away at how detailed it was and its steps as it walked through all this stuff.
01:57So on the back of that conversation with AI, sometimes more A, less I, but in this case,
02:05it turned out to be a little bit more I.
02:07So had a chat with the Sparkies and they're going, yep, you're on track.
02:11Sweet, cool, GPT worked, going shopping.
02:15So now I'm going to pull this stuff through.
02:18I've got 24 meters of the, what is this stuff?
02:27Let's have a look.
02:30This is dark.
02:35It's dark in here.
02:37So this is a 6G, 23 meters of 6G.
02:42And this is 12G, 11 meters of 12G.
02:51So that 12G is only going to be used for the two LED lights up the top.
02:56The 6G is going to be used for the fans because they're going to require a bit more
03:00and because of the length of where it's got to get to, that's the recommendations.
03:04So I'm going to get stuck into it.
03:06So, since you're listening to them, why don't they're going to be used for the two?
09:42We've got a little hole there for the cable to go through, which that'll be okay.
09:46Once the roof goes up, we'll just feed the cable through that cavity, cut a little hole in the roof and just drop it down.
09:52And that way they'll be right back.
11:22We've got the vent and we'll be right back.
