00:00
good afternoon my name is phil hewitt group arts editor for sussex newspapers lovely to speak to
00:06
holly and evie from the rude mechanical theater company now you're just about to go on the road
00:12
all over the south of england countless countless places along the way with the show is harry's farm
00:19
isn't it yeah gentle harry's farm now evie give me an idea of what this world is all about because
00:27
you're saying that it's a bit cartoon like but it's got heart as well isn't it yeah so all of the
00:33
rude mechanical theater company shows are very sort of heightened uh for outdoor theater you see a lot
00:40
of um sort of british stereotypes coming through when we cartoonize everything so that it's all
00:48
got a rhythm and a beat and they're all sort of familiar characters really um but with every show
00:54
there is a real heart to it as well so you get the lightness i mean with a lot of cartoon sort of
01:00
stuff anyway um you get a lot of light and a lot of dark and yeah so they're they're lovely they're
01:07
really heartwarming wonderful silly shows and they were incredibly appealing and holly you were saying
01:14
that it uses so many of the skills that you loved and that you have yes it's a real gift as an actor
01:20
because you can multi-roll so playing multiple different characters whether that be man or animal
01:25
um and uh also um we're all instrumentalists so um there's all live music we sing we dance we play
01:33
our instruments and and also it's everything is in mime i mean we do speak the text but the world
01:40
is created through mime so no props so uh we can go anywhere in the imagination
01:45
and in this show we're on a farmyard and well absolutely i was going to ask evie to perhaps
01:50
set the scene where do we begin with this one so we begin uh really it's all centered around
01:57
gentle harry's farm and obviously the surrounding acres of land uh there's magpie woods which is where
02:04
we meet some sort of dastardly characters and some various animals um we're also uh some of the
02:12
animals are investigating a gate that's been taken off of its hinges and they realize that they're free
02:18
to explore further afield quite literally um and there's also some things that happen within the
02:25
farm itself and the show this year is set in 1957 so it's very sort of um traditional you know english
02:34
uh countryside feel to it which is perfect for the summer actually you know isn't it it goes like
02:39
hand in hand with that ollie you've got quite a range of characters haven't you not all of them
02:43
human in fact most of them not most of them not no um no i've got a collie dog a uh sheep a magpie
02:53
and a young boy of 10 so yes a nice range of characters and again that's part of the attraction
03:01
playing with the company isn't it absolutely yeah it's it's great fun to be able to um multi-roll
03:06
um yeah it's just um really silly and yeah great it's it's really like personally i really enjoy
03:13
playing a completely different what gender or or species and on top of that obviously for all of
03:22
you you're going to some pretty fabulous places aren't you yeah we do get some really beautiful
03:27
places the best of the the south yeah yeah the venues are gorgeous and it's just such a treat to be
03:35
working outdoors for the summer you know as long as it's not raining as long as it's not raining ever
03:42
never hopefully not fantastic well have a fabulous summer really lovely to speak to both of you
03:49
good luck with the whole thing thank you see you there
03:53
if you're too hot yeah
03:56
you're pretty close beside behind it
03:57
you're pretty close to me
03:58
you're pretty close to me
03:58
you're pretty close to me
04:00
maybe a lot of people does not at all
04:00
in the house we already have two cousins
04:02
probably same like some kurie
04:02
maybe that sometimes they can help you
04:03

04:03
