00:00A police report has been lodged against businessman Datuk Albert Tay-Jan Cheng for allegedly making
00:08insulting and defamatory remarks towards Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
00:14The report was filed by the Hajiji's special officer, Datuk Mazlan Johari Manan, at the
00:20Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon. Mazlan said Tay's statement,
00:26made during a press conference at the Kota Kinabalu High Court compound on Monday,
00:31was not only false and malicious, but also amounted to an attack on Hajiji's dignity,
00:37the MACC, and the Attorney General's chambers. He stressed that since Tay's case, along with that
00:44of two state assemblymen, is currently being heard in court, the businessman should refrain
00:49from issuing media statements. He added that the police report was made to facilitate a thorough
00:55investigation and to enable appropriate legal action to be taken against Tay. Tay, who has been
01:02named Albert the Whistleblower, was charged on Monday for offering bribes to Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk
01:09Dr. Yusof Yaqob and Tanjung Batu, Assemblyman Datuk Andy Muhammad Suryadi Bandi, in exchange for
01:16assistance in processing mineral exploration license applications in Sabah. Speaking to the media after
01:23his court appearance, the 37-year-old businessman from Selangor questioned why only the two assemblymen
01:30had been charged. He claimed he was a small fry caught in a net for bigger fish, and called for action
01:37against the sharks that are still swimming free. Tay also accused the authorities of sending a poisonous
01:43signal to Malaysians by charging the whistleblower in a corruption case instead of protecting him.
