Hartlepool MP Jonathan Brash reflects on his first year in office

00:00Here with Jonathan Brash, Hartlepool's MP, around a year on from his election.

00:06Jonathan, how was the first year being as MP?

00:08Look, it's been a whirlwind and so much hard work gone in right across Hartlepool.

00:12I genuinely believe we've seen huge progress.

00:15£150 million of capital delivery, £20 million for our neighbourhoods.

00:20We've seen lots of private capital investment as well.

00:22There's a huge amount left to do, but we're starting that journey.

00:26It's a five-year parliamentary term. We're a year in.

00:28I think we've made a really good start. There's a lot more to do.

00:32What have been some of your highlights from the last year?

00:34Well, I tell you, the thing I have loved doing most is welcoming people from Hartlepool to Parliament,

00:40particularly our school children.

00:41It's been such a privilege to be able to show them around and excite them about democracy and make them feel part of it.

00:46As long as I'm your MP, I will always welcome Hartlepool people to Parliament.

00:50It's one of the most special things I can do in the job.

00:52And looking to the future, what's next for Hartlepool? What's Hartlepool got to look forward to?

00:57Well, look, we managed to secure £20 million for our plan for neighbourhoods.

01:01And the next big step in that journey is engaging with people in their neighbourhoods about how they want to spend that money.

01:07It should be me that decides. It should be people in their street, in their community that make that decision.

01:12So I'm really excited about talking to people about that massive plan.

01:16And then delivering those big capital investments, the production village, the upgrade to the Northern Studios,

01:20the highlight that's opening really, really soon.

01:23Some big things happening. Investment in our hospital, GP surgery, schools,

01:27all that's going to make a difference to people's lives.

01:29It's just about continuing to work every day to improve things for people in Hartlepool.
