CTP (S3E106) Patriot's Popcorn: An American Carol and Our Cultural Amnesia
We explore why celebrating American freedom shouldn't be limited to the Fourth of July and the importance of remembering our constitutional rights year-round. This episode features reflections on patriotism, holiday traditions, and recommendations for media that reinforces constitutional values.
• Introduction to upcoming reprise episodes about freedom and rights beyond July 4th celebrations
• Discussion of holiday traditions including watching "An American Carol" – a film about attempts to cancel Independence Day
• Reflection on how many Americans have reduced holidays to three-day weekends rather than occasions for meaningful remembrance
• Introduction of ROAR (Restore Our American Republic) as a call for citizen engagement
• Thoughts on balancing American sovereignty with unavoidable global interconnectedness

00:00Welcome to the Constitutionalist Politics Podcast, a.k.a. CTP.
00:07I am your host, Joseph M. Leonard, and that's L-E-N-A-R-D.
00:12CTP is your no-must, no-fuss, just-me-you-and-occasional-guest-type podcast.
00:19I really appreciate you tuning in.
00:22Graham Norton will say, let's get on with the show!
00:25One, I am going to be a little slow, a little deliberate, a little cautious in my words here,
00:39my verbiage here, because I'm going to engage in a bit of a cheat here with my show.
00:50So, I'm going to use this same intro, same segue into an episode for two weeks in a row.
01:04I'm planning on, now, for June the 28th, Saturday monologue, and July the 5th, Saturday monologue,
01:15use this same intro, which would be season, whoops, season 2-106, and actually, I'm catching myself now.
01:28So, July will be start of third season, so season 3-107, episode 107.
01:37I've got to remember to get in that swing of things.
01:42Remember, I started in June, so I do my seasons based on a full 52 weeks of one full year of
01:55Saturday monologues, not a calendar year.
02:00I could have cheated and already said, well, 2025 is season 3, starting in January, but I didn't want to do that.
02:09So, rolling into July of 2025, indeed, will be season 3, but that's not what I wanted to talk to you about.
02:18Normally, when it comes to holidays, I don't do the holiday thing either before or on the holiday.
02:32Usually, I wait a week, sometimes two, sometimes three.
02:36Like with Mother's Day last year, a retrospective, and around Mother's Day this year, I reprised last year's Mother's Day retrospective.
02:50Well, I'm engaging in that cheat again, as well as this cheat of using this sub-intro into the episodes of planning to replay two episodes.
03:06On June the 28th, leading into 4th of July, I plan on reprising Season 1, Episode 3, Remembering Freedom and Our Rights Beyond the 4th of July.
03:24And Season 3, Episode 3, July the 5th, obviously the day after the 4th of July, I plan on reprising, Remembering Freedom and Our Rights, Part 2, which was Season 1, Episode 4.
03:46For those who may have missed them, or may have forgotten them, and I get to be a little lazy, to be honest, not having to record a whole new show, I'm doing this cheat intro that I'm going to use twice for two episodes in a row to lead into those.
04:08Before I begin the reprise shows, I want to first mention every 4th of July, well, let me back up, Christmas, right?
04:23Around Christmas time, people usually dig up Die Hard again, or we see It's a Wonderful Life on TV over and over and over, like the entire month of December.
04:36People rewatch certain things, well, on 9-11, the week of 9-11, I have certain 9-11-related things that I dig up and rewatch every year during the 9-11 somber remembrance time.
04:55It's not an anniversary, certainly not a holiday, anniversaries in my mind are for happy things, so that's a, just like, I'm recording this now, Memorial Day just passed, because I'm recording this ahead for the end of June and beginning of July.
05:20Memorial Day, Memorial Day, Memorial Day, Memorial Day, Memorial Day is a, you know, the anniversary of someone's birth, generally a happy celebratory thing.
05:38Memorial Day is a somber remembrance time, unlike Veterans Day, when we are celebrating those who had served, or Armed Forces Day, and there is a difference in those holidays, celebrating those who are serving in the military.
06:03But the 4th of July is both a happy holiday, and a somber remembrance day, as we remember all those who fought and died in our revolution to give us what we've got.
06:21But I said that about Christmastime and 9-11, because every 4th of July, I dig up a film called An American Carol.
06:36Here's my DVD copy of it, that I, I own the film on DVD, a David Zucker comedy, you know, the guy who brought us Airplane and that, and it has Kevin Farley, Kelsey Grammer, Leslie Nielsen, Trace Atkins, even leftist Dennis Hopper.
07:04I love the script so much, even though it pokes fun at leftist, because the premise of An American Carol, based on a Christmas Carol, is a, Kevin Farley plays a Mikey Moron type mockumentary maker, and wants to, and this film was ahead of its time, which is why I re-watch it every year, and I recommend it to people every year.
07:31About leftists wanting to cancel the 4th of July, and again, right on cue, here we are again, all Trump's enough, oh, it's going to be the 250th celebration of America next year.
07:47Oh no, they don't want to, oh no, they don't want to celebrate it, it, we've lost the mobocracy.
07:55We never were a mobocracy, you idiots, an ineptocracy, or a kleptocracy that you want.
08:02We are a constitutionally limited republic, and will remain such.
08:08But Kevin Farley, Chris's brother, plays a Mikey Moron mockumentary filmmaker who sets about wanting to try to cancel and eliminate the 4th of July holiday.
08:22It's hilarious, Dennis Hopper, again, lefty, it makes fun of lefties, but he loved the script so much he wanted to be in the film, and he's a hoot in the film, in the courtroom scene.
08:38I don't want to give more of a spoiler than that.
08:41James Woods, Robert Davi, Jeffrey Aaron, David Allen Greer, also another lefty, but loved the script, and especially the part, you know, calling out the lefts, the Democrat Party, the Demo KKK rat slave past in the film.
09:10He wanted to be part of it, and of course, conservative John Voight is in it too, so a great cast, a wonderful film.
09:20Please, please, you can find it on YouTube for free, but I recommend buying a copy and watching it every 4th of July.
09:30So, without further ado, if you're watching the last week of June, we're making the segue into remembering freedom and our rights beyond the 4th of July reprise of Season 1, Episode 3.
09:48If you're watching this cheat intro, the first week of July, or beyond 2025, the reprise of Season 1, Episode 4, Remembering Freedom and Our Rights, Part 2.
10:06Here we go.
10:08Take care.
10:08God bless.
10:09Thank you for tuning in.
10:10For those of you who may be getting a sneak peek behind-the-scenes video version of this audio podcast,
10:22yes, thank you, Michael Gardner and Shaky over at Savaged Unfiltered.
10:28This is a background that I will be using in the upcoming Savaged Unfiltered podcast that I'm co-host,
10:35that I'm co-opting for Constitutionalist Politics recording here.
10:43Of course, audio only.
10:45Most people won't see it, again, unless you're seeing the sneak peek behind the scenes.
10:51Remembering Freedoms and Rights Beyond the 4th of July Holiday.
10:56It's the audio airwaves on July the 8th.
11:01Remembering Freedoms and Rights Beyond the 4th of July Holiday.
11:06All right?
11:08Oh, there's an all right.
11:12I promise I'll get better.
11:15I'll pay attention and not do that.
11:17Next week will be a Part 2 of the Remembering Freedoms and Rights Beyond the 4th of July Holiday.
11:26Honoring all that serve this week and next week, especially those who gave the full final measure,
11:36sacrificing to defend our rights, our freedoms, our security, our safety in our own communities.
11:46And also, I want to again say what an honor it is that you tuned in.
11:56And I also hope to be able to honor my father, rest in peace, Thaddeus M. Leonard, also known Ted Leonard Jr.,
12:06and the Polka Kings, the audio portion, I hope to be able to tack on from their album, the tune, Our Little Polish Genie.
12:19Well, you know, polka music certainly has nothing to do with this, but since we're honoring the birth of this nation,
12:27I'm honoring you as a guest here, tuning in, thank you again so much.
12:34Going to take the chance to honor my father from whom I got my creative genes, if not for him.
12:42And yeah, I dabbled in music in the 70s and 80s, but went on more so to just write online articles and books
12:51and Terror Strikes Coming Soon to a City Near You and How to Write a Book and Get It Published, Tips and Techniques,
12:59my first two internationally available books.
13:03But remembering our freedom, again, I want to honor those who have given of themselves our Leos out there
13:17over the 4th of July weekend, trying to protect and serve.
13:22My book, Terror Strikes, is partly dedicated to Leos, to the military, to all who are patriots,
13:32who want to preserve, actually now, restore our American Republic, right?
13:40I came up with the hashtag Roar, not the Katy Perry video, but if that's what helps keep it in your brain,
13:48that's a great thing.
13:50Roar.
13:52Let your voice be heard, Mama Bears, at the school board meetings.
13:57Help restore our American Republic.
14:00We must do that.
14:01And part two of Remembering Our Freedoms is going to have a segment from the Nextdoor app,
14:12which is kind of like a Facebook, but meant more so strictly for local neighborhood watch type things.
14:21There was someone on social media that complained about early fireworks,
14:25and I talk about that more, and we will talk about that more next week for part two of Remembering Our Rights and Freedoms.
14:37This week's article, again, sets that up.
14:41I broke it into two pieces, kind of like a prior Remembering the Fallen beyond Memorial Day.
14:49We've got to remember these things beyond the one weekend holiday that's set up.
14:57We are losing our nation.
14:59We are losing our purpose.
15:01We are losing our values and principles because a lot of people are just coasting through life,
15:09and these holidays mean nothing to them but a three-day weekend, and that's sad.
15:15I say in an online piece about the need to repeal the holidays,
15:22the official declaration of making federal holidays moved to Mondays to create the three-day weekends.
15:31I think we should repeal that act.
15:33The holiday should be on the actual date of the holiday no matter what day it falls
15:39so we remember what the holiday is supposed to be about,
15:45not just about mattress sales or barbecues, things like that.
15:53We need to get back to the point and purpose of these holidays,
16:00the remembrance and honoring what they are supposed to stand for.
16:05Another thing going to be kind of a last thing as, again, this segment is going to be very short
16:14so we can get to our guest and we can get to hopefully you won't be able to see it on the video behind the scenes.
16:25I can't tack the audio on to the video with the software I have,
16:29but the audio portion of the broadcast hopefully will have our little Polish genie from Ted Leonard Jr.
16:38and the Polka Kings.
16:40But I wanted to mention to you a movie, a movie I watch every 4th of July weekend.
16:47It is now, of course, past the 4th, but it's still not too late.
16:51Please, I beg of you to watch the film called An American Carol.
16:59Now, you might guess, yes, it's based a spoof, a play on A Christmas Carol,
17:07which is about Michael, oh, I forget the character's name right off the hand here now,
17:15but Chris Farley's brother plays a Michael Moore-like left-wing propagandist
17:24who is embarking on an endeavor, if I can get the word out of my mouth correctly,
17:32to cancel the 4th of July holiday.
17:36Now, this movie came out before all the recent cancel culture garbage.
17:42So, An American Carol, which you can find online even via YouTube, buy or rent there.
17:52Some places you can even stream it free since it's an older movie.
17:56But An American Carol really is way more relevant today than the actual time that it came out.
18:06So, please, I ask that you go watch An American Carol, share it with your friends,
18:13and perhaps also rent, if you don't own, Dinesh D'Souza's America.
18:21Imagine the world without her.
18:24There are so many on the left trying to destroy this nation without the realization
18:30of without this nation, the shambles this world would be in right now.
18:37Without America to help, to not be the policeman of the world.
18:44Those days of America alone, I'm sorry, are gone.
18:50I wish we could be Fortress America,
18:54like we could be when our nation was founded and first started.
18:58But with the advent of the Industrial Revolution,
19:03those oceans no longer protect us.
19:07We are indeed part of a world community, whether we like it or not.
19:11That doesn't mean we then embark on a new world order or a global governance.
19:19That's absolutely resisted.
19:22We must retain our sovereignty.
19:24But that doesn't mean that we can ignore what happens elsewhere,
19:29because unfortunately, it does affect us at home,
19:34either economically or militarily, potentially, at times.
19:40So, there is that.
19:42And with that, I am going to close.
19:45How about we get to some Michigan music for you right now?
19:48Like we've been saying, and you mentioned this band,
19:50so I'm bringing this band out.
19:53Okay.
19:54Dusted this one off.
19:56Ted Leonard and the Polka Kings.
19:59Sounds good to me.
20:00Actually, Ted Leonard Jr. and the Polka Kings.
20:03I believe this was one of their big hits,
20:05our little Polish genie.
20:07Our little Polish genie.
20:17That's right!
22:58Ted Leonard Jr. and the Polka Kings giving you our little Polish genie.
23:03Thank you for having tuned in for a Christianist politics show.
23:08If you haven't already, please check out my primary internationally available book, Terror Strikes, coming soon to a city near you.
23:17Available anywhere books are sold.
23:47Mostly politics through a Christian U.S. Constitutionalist lens.
23:53So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
23:56Take care.
23:57God bless.
23:58Like, and subscribe to the Constitutionalist politics podcast and share episodes.
24:06We need your help.
