Vice President Sara Duterte says the state of the nation is 'dire,' about a month before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivers his fourth SONA. The vice president, who will not attend the SONA in July, told a press briefing on June 25, 2025, however, that if one Filipino remained hopeful, she would be the same, going as far as to predict that the Philippines may even a be a superpower.

00:00The state of the nation is dire, it is sad, and for me personally, it is frustrating.
00:09Habang may buhay, may pag-asa, at habang merong Filipino naniniwala that we can be a superpower, it can happen.
00:51Pero if you talk to the Filipinos overseas who have lived, who have worked in so many countries, they still dream.
