00:01The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission says some 11 million ringgit in sukuk funds meant for the Maju Expressway extension project was instead spent on cryptocurrency.
00:13MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki said the funds were believed to have been converted into cryptocurrency and used to make purchases.
00:21Azam said MACC had recorded the statements of 55 witnesses and frozen 14 bank accounts with a total of 156 million ringgit as part of its probe.
00:34Hundreds of millions in sukuk funds were suspected to have been channeled to a company owned by a corporate figure with a tansiri title and later misused for personal interests instead of the intended highway project.
00:47Separately, Azam said the prosecution is expected to appeal more MP Sadiq Said Abdulrahman's acquittal of his corruption and money laundering charges.
00:59Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan-Shaharuddin Wan-Ladin earlier said that the prosecution would study the Court of Appeals' judgement before deciding on its next step.
