00:00So earlier this week, we told a story about a cursed hotel room in California.

00:05Well, today's story is about another cursed hotel room, but this one's located in a hotel in Missouri.

00:11In 2004, a guy named Daniel took a job as manager at a historic luxury hotel in St. Louis.

00:17It was one of those really old places with chandeliers and marble floors and elevators with gold trim.

00:23Back in its heyday, the hotel used to cater to politicians and movie stars.

00:27But by 2004, it was starting to show its age.

00:32Conventions and weddings were its main source of income.

00:35That's what made it so weird when Daniel started hearing strange rumors about the fourth floor from different staff members.

00:42None of them would say it outright, but they dropped hints.

00:45Like if Daniel ever needed to put a guest in room 409, he should just know it was never a good idea.

00:51Oh yeah, and if the computer happens to assign room 409 to someone, he should just override it manually.

00:57And whatever he does, Daniel should never enter room 409 after midnight.

01:03At first, he thought they were just playing some kind of prank.

01:06He figured it was just old hotel lore.

01:09Every old place has stories like that.

01:11But then Daniel started checking the records.

01:13And sure enough, room 409 had a history.

01:17He found the incident reports from 1987.

01:19A woman was staying there on a business trip, who claimed somebody was knocking on her door every five minutes.

01:25The report said she called the front desk at around 10 p.m. to complain, but security found no one.

01:31Apparently, the woman was found unresponsive in her room's bathtub a few hours later.

01:36The report said she had no drugs or alcohol in her system, and there was no signs of a struggle.

01:41The only thing out of the ordinary was the look on her face, which suggested sheer panic.

01:47Daniel found other reports, too.

01:50In 1989, a teenage boy staying with his family insisted he saw a woman standing at the end of his bed.

01:56The report said the woman was soaking wet, and her hair was covering her face.

02:01The boy couldn't see any features, but he could hear her breathing.

02:04His parents, of course, thought it was just a nightmare until they developed the film from their trip.

02:09One of the photos taken in room 409 showed a dark, blurry figure reflected in the mirror.

02:15And yes, it appeared to be a woman.

02:17After reading all these reports, Daniel learned about another strange incident involving room 409.

02:24A janitor quit his job mid-shift after hearing someone whisper his full name while he walked past room 409 at night.

02:31According to the report, he swore it was a woman's voice.

02:35One weekend, Daniel had his first big wedding.

02:38The hotel was packed, and by 11 p.m., he was getting frantic phone calls from the wedding planner.

02:44Some guests had been bumped to different rooms due to overbooking,

02:47and if he couldn't find a solution soon, she might have to cancel the whole event.

02:51That's when Daniel got a call from the front desk.

02:54A young couple had just checked in to room 409.

02:57They were the only available room.

02:59Now, Daniel wasn't religious, but he was skeptical.

03:02Then he personally delivered a handwritten note to the room,

03:05explaining the fourth floor was off-limits after midnight.

03:09Daniel never saw the couple again.

03:11They left the next morning.

03:13Housekeeping found their door wide open and their luggage packed,

03:16but before they left, they must have smashed the bathroom mirror,

03:20because it was completely destroyed.

03:21Whoever did it had managed to keep most of them inside the bathroom.

03:25Again, nothing else was missing or broken.

03:29There was no blood, no explanation.

03:31When Daniel knocked on the couple's door later that day to ask about the mirror,

03:35the husband looked genuinely confused.

03:38He said,

03:39We didn't touch it, but all night we heard breathing behind the glass.

03:43After that, Daniel never booked anyone in that room again.

03:47Today, room 409 is used for storage.

03:50But staff say sometimes the housekeeping cards will stop in front of it for no reason.

03:55The lights inside will flicker, even though the power is turned off.

03:59And every once in a while, someone will walk past it after midnight and hear a knock.
