Within my life’s hellish symphony, there pulsates a beat which is distinctly absent. My ceaseless quarrel is accompanied by a familiar thrum sagacious and brimming with vengeance yet feels muted at best. While crushing mighty legions of Hell beneath my feet, blood slicking over the ancient stones, something lay amiss. Quite crucially missing was the soundtrack, which is an indispensable part of any doom-like experience. It is essential to understand that in no way are the audio tracks monotone; rather, they are adorned with fires roaring metal coupled with percussion, fueling a primal urge deep within to rend and tear into chaos and annihilation. What I have come to register as undeniably bangers felt disconnected and isolated from the rest of the gameplay, their unity lost.

What has instead replaced these power-packed soundtracks were mere bursts of sound strewn across chaos — devoid of anything remotely resembling cohesion or continuity amongst them. Considering how raw energy has forever served as motivation behind each one of my blood-soaked slaughters, this time around, it felt bone-numbing, whereas previously, I was fuelled passively through diabolical onslaughts aimed towards pushing limits mile after mile. Now, what unfolds spans across, devolving into grating demon shrieks meshed together with bone-crunching silence where blaring anthems ought to serve as the guiding roadmap for fury unbound should dwell instead.

They are my weapons and tools shaped by the fires of Hell and thousands upon thousands of demon carcasses. Each one was a step further in delight that I could inflict more suffering, and now it is clear that with this new wave of enemies, I shall reap maximum gratification. This newly discovered joy will come from utilizing a completely novel device – a shield saw. It is not very accurate to call this device a “shield saw” simply because it is both dazzling and horrific simultaneously. Calling it absurd beats would do just fine, too, as long as I am given leave to use metaphors reflecting my emotions. Let us remember the tragic performance that Cacodemons inflicted on so many of us “riders.”
