00:00KISS's Paul Stanley reveals he once felt betrayed by bandmate Gene Simmons. Gene's move left Paul
00:07feeling hurt and resentful. For 50 years, Paul Stanley and Gene Simer stood cyberside as brothers,
00:14in face paint. As the two only consistent members of legendary rock group KISS,
00:19Stanley and Simmons experienced the highs and lows together. From lineup changes to the awkward
00:24period when they took the makeup off to their ultimate farewell, these two have been close as
00:29close can be, except when Gene went off to pursue acting. Simmons appeared in TV shows and movies
00:34in the early 1980s, including episodes of Miami Vice and The Hitchhiker, as well as in films such as
00:41Never Too Young to Die and the Mattel-themed horror, Flicktrick or Treat. While he was doing this,
00:47Stanley was left to handle all of KISS's musical duties, including most of the songwriting duties
00:52for their 1984 album, I Felt Betrayed, No Secret, Stanley said of Gene focusing on these
00:58extracurricular activities. When appearing on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan,
01:03I felt that he was leaving me to do the heavy work, but continued to get paid. He was trying
01:08to have the best of both worlds, added the KISS singer. Go off and do your own thing and have
01:13the success, at any level that there was success, and the monetary compensation, which I'm not sharing
01:19in, but you're abandoning ship and you're still my partner. Stanley said he felt very resentful and hurt
01:24by Simmons' actions. I would say I was angry, but I was her. Gene's my brother, he's been with me since
01:30I was 17. So that was really difficult. Despite feeling abandoned, Stanley said he was not going to
01:36let this band fall apart. He took it on himself to get Kezzers through this rough patch, even if they
01:41didn't produce their best. But yeah, I felt that he was selling the band short, he added.
01:47The quality of the writing was not good. I thought he wasn't playing fair. In the first part of his
01:52magnificent others' appearance, Stanley revealed he was really miserable looking back on the
01:57farewell tour. There was no sense of camaraderie or joy in what we were doing.
