00:00The Romanian side full of good things of course after their victory over Argentina
00:04now Florian Raduccio from Milan returns to the attack
00:08and with Haji and Dumitrescu up there as well
00:11there really is the promise of a lot of enterprising play from the Romanians here
00:16I think it's a tremendous prospect we've got
00:18seem to have got better as this tournament has gone on
00:27the Swedes have had a settled side
00:29and they are going to be quite a prospect here as well
00:33at Stanford just outside San Francisco
00:36but they've had a setback in their side
00:40their captain Jonas Tern is out injured
00:43his place in the midfield goes to Hakan Mild
00:45otherwise really it's the side that's grown together in spirit
00:49and you can't underestimate that
00:50and at the sharp end of course you have to watch out once again
00:54for the lively Berlin and the dangerous Dali
00:57you've never been one to sit on the fence Kevin
01:03your view as to who might just snatch it here
01:08for a place in the semi-final against Brazil
01:10well of all the places for the last four in the games
01:14this is the one that really is the artist to predict for me
01:17there is without doubt on your screen now
01:19the man who is the player of this tournament so far
01:22it looked like it'd be a match between him and Maradona
01:25but unfortunately it was made a little bit easier for him
01:27but he's certainly come of age in this
01:30I mean he always thought of being a good player
01:32but he's been exceptional over here
01:34everything that they have done
01:35he has been at the center of
01:37valuable goal scorer here Dumatrescu
01:38yeah I mean he's dangerous
01:41he seems to have a telepathic understanding with Haji
01:44and if you're on the same wavelength of Haji
01:47you're a good player
01:48well the Swedes are in white
01:52the Romanians in red
01:54Martin Dahlin
01:56had a good goal scoring record here
01:59eight goals in nine qualifiers before he came here
02:03four goals in this World Cup
02:05a Swedish number ten
02:07and away we go
02:12good luck to Philip Don
02:14let's hope he has a good performance
02:15as the referee of 18 under so much pressure
02:18keep mentioning that but it's so true
02:20and also just worth pointing out that Roland Nielsen
02:24next to her Wednesday
02:26has been made Sweden's captain today
02:28with the turn off engine
02:31up towards Darlene
02:32nodded down nicely
02:33quick break here by Sweden
02:36but Kenneth Andersen couldn't take it
02:38from Ingersen
02:40Sweden's throw
02:43Jung with it
02:45she's Ingersen again
02:48Jung
02:50playing it down the line here towards Darlene
02:53but Petrescu there
02:55number two
02:55plays in Italy
02:57with Genoa
02:58for Romania
02:59Rolene doing his work
03:04here he is again
03:05Rolene
03:06cross towards Ingersen
03:09and they tried an overhead
03:11Darlene's in there
03:12trying to make life difficult
03:13for the Romanians
03:14Mield couldn't quite get in there
03:15but they're keeping this going
03:16and in the end
03:17Shelley Mesh I think it was
03:19who got it away
03:20for Romania
03:21he's got it in there
03:22go to Nielsen gets it in again
03:24he absolutely flung himself at that one but what a good cross as well
03:44that would have been one of the best goals of this world cup so far
03:47a magnificent run from ingerson he's very strong this lad and he goes for route one
03:52and what a ball in and then it's still a bit to do but that man darling he's on fire in this world
03:57cup with the manager your please Tommy Svensson's nephew up to Dali touch back again to Nielsen always
04:06looking to link up there Kenneth Anderson Brolin looking to turn Kenneth Anderson looking to get
04:13a yard for a shot then played it just a little too wide for Thomas Brolin number 11 gets the cross in
04:20no and the Romanians struggling to get that away until Shelemes got a left foot onto it
04:27at a child bringing in Muntianu
04:32Adji onto the left foot the Swedes know that's at their peril
04:40first play for Romania
04:47Adji himself is on the yellow card
04:49yeah they possibly can do without the other two I don't mean that disrespectfully to them but they
04:54certainly need this man on the ball now
04:57there he is
04:59flick of the left foot
05:01Rupeska with a shot
05:03now Rubelli whether he saw that late whether it moved in the air which these balls are tending to do but
05:08that was an extraordinary piece of goalkeeping it looked quite an easy catch and suddenly it was a very ineffective punch
05:16now he's his mother was champion tennis player in Sweden and he looked more like a tennis player there than a goalkeeper
05:24here come Romania
05:27across the face of the goal and just wide
05:33Dimitrescu
05:36very very difficult ball to defend this and disappointed I think that nobody got on the end of it
05:44look just a little touch there
05:46two players
05:47great ball
05:48very very difficult for the Rivelli and and the Swiss to defend
05:51either giving it the whistle
05:53kind of every right they're playing for a place in the semifinals and you feel that the team they've got to be a little bit more inventive on in both camps
06:01well there goes the half-time whistle
06:05a fairly undistinguished first half it has to be said
06:08but
06:08at half-time there's still an awful lot to play for
06:12as Romania
06:14and Sweden are standing
06:160-0 here in San Francisco
06:18afternoon again from the commentary box
06:21looking at that
06:24the booking of Selimesh
06:26right at the end
06:27for the first half Kevin
06:29do you feel also impossibly
06:31that there was a bit of shirt pulling there
06:34there was early on in the run but
06:36he'd seem to have ridden that
06:38and then I think he did look up
06:39as
06:40Buch said
06:41Ray Wilkins said
06:42and he saw he wasn't going to get any advantage
06:44he went down
06:45but again
06:45Philippe Don couldn't possibly be close enough to make that decision
06:48and it seemed a very harsh one
06:50with the benefit of hindsight
06:51Rivescu playing it wide
06:53to the right-hand side
06:54and an important ball there
06:57and a good punch away that time by Rivelli
07:00from Radichoi
07:03that was a bright brisk start
07:11we're reminding ourselves
07:13the first half of Holland Brazil
07:15yesterday apparently was a
07:16very nondescript event
07:19really going in the second half
07:22we hope the same thing happens here
07:23Wilson trying to get on the end of
07:26Liverpool played by Broline
07:28Dimitrescu
07:31knocking forward again
07:35Mutianu
07:37Haji over on this side
07:39Haji is dispossessed
07:41Anderson
07:41plays the ball in
07:42but an offside there
07:44in fact
07:44Radichoi was back on his heels
07:46I think he was thinking with some justification
07:48that Haji might well finish the job in
07:50Dimitrescu
07:53Haji
07:57foul there
07:58by Mild
08:00free kick taken very quickly indeed
08:02Lupescu
08:03might fancy a shot here
08:04why not
08:05well Rivelli
08:08struggled just for a moment there
08:10yeah you can see
08:16they've invited him to have a shot
08:18he doesn't inspire confidence
08:19look
08:20a little bit of a stumble there
08:21didn't really get his body
08:22Dimitrescu
08:25Radichoi
08:28and you have to say he was right up with it
08:38the Romanians felt that that was a penalty
08:41it's a great ball in
08:46he just touches it
08:47but I don't really think
08:48to be honest with you
08:50I think actually a defender may have got the ball
08:52to have a look
08:53it was a tricky one for Philip Don
09:01but a view from the distant commentary box is he got it absolutely right
09:05and as you said Bryan he was right there
09:08absolutely
09:08five yards away
09:09if the referee in the German-Belgium game had been even half as close as that he probably would have given a penalty but he was way way behind the play in that respect
09:17here's Darlene for Sweden
09:19here's Darlene for Sweden
09:23Neil to Jung
09:24he's making Roland Nielsen run for this one but Nielsen dinks a nice little ball there for Grelin
09:30oh great save
09:35super action here in San Francisco with that little moment there
09:41and Grelin flashing to life possibly for the first time in this game
09:45you know he nearly caught him out here because everyone expect him to cross it
09:49and he did the unexpected
09:50and that's that's an all mark of a great player
09:53what does the keeper think I'm going to do?
09:54what do the defenders think I'm going to do?
09:56and he has a shot and I tell you what
09:58here's again the big defender
10:10it's a ball again
10:12not a child over the top
10:14it'll be a goal kick
10:16let's just get a quick word in Dallas with big Jack Charlton
10:20it's good to have you back with us Jack
10:22we're looking for somebody to swing the game here
10:24is there any one player you think might do that now?
10:26Brolin has always been my favorite, I'm a big fan of his
10:32let's hope this one cheers up very soon
10:34it's Schwartz now for Sweden
10:41Anderson trying to get through to Darlene
10:43Ingersen's in there as well
10:47the flag is up
10:49the flag is up
10:50and it won't count
10:56Perrin
10:57I'm not sure the linesman gave that
10:58I think Philip Don gave that
11:00I didn't see his flag go up
11:02but I'm not sure
11:04I'm really not sure he was offside
11:07we've got to look at that again no doubt in a moment
11:11still 0-0
11:12let me remind you of that
11:13but at least we've had a moment of excitement
11:15and at the moment you can count those on the fingers of one hand in this game
11:20and at the moment you can count those on the fingers of one hand in this game
11:24and they were struggling to keep that one out Sweden
11:35the one thing Sweden do have Brian is they have pace at the back
11:38and it's got them out of trouble a lot of times in this World Cup
11:40and it did there
11:41I mean Anderson was very very quick
11:42very very quick
11:49a little jink
11:51buys a yard and does it well
11:52but then
11:54lays it just a little too firmly
11:57well let's have a look at this
11:59from the blimp
12:01as to why it wasn't given
12:03it's certainly not offside
12:05what was it given?
12:07when the balls played
12:08it didn't look
12:09it must have given a foul
12:10a free kick to Romania
12:13there's that ball again it bounces
12:14and he's run from a long way back
12:16and
12:18I can only think he'd give a foul darling backing into
12:21the big centre
12:25he already had an attempt last time from a similar position
12:28and if you remember the goalkeeper had a real problem getting down to it
12:31so he might well fancy his chances again
12:33Berline's in the wall
12:34what a good free kick
12:35what a brilliant free kick
12:48Thomas Brolin has put Sweden ahead
12:52there we were conjecturing whether Schwartz would be the man who would have a bang at it
12:57Brolin had infiltrated the wall and suddenly he burst
13:01there he goes
13:03Schwartz knew all about it
13:05and Romania didn't
13:07that's the best free kick of this World Cup
13:09I think if there's one thing we've been a little bit disappointed in it's free kicks
13:12and then suddenly in the last two games
13:15Brazil got a great one with Branca
13:16and that possibly
13:18you'll be seeing that one repeating itself up and down training grounds all over the country
13:23it's a clever one
13:25what a finish
13:27I mean the man who broke away Brolin in the wall
13:31and all the defenders obviously thinking the one thing he's going to do is possibly duck in the wall
13:35and the ball will go through where he'd been
13:37but what a sensational move there by the Swedes
13:39I do
13:49now he really does need to work some magic
13:52the Swedes have got their tails up now
13:56here they come Kenneth Anderson
13:59and the finish as well that was absolutely blistering wasn't it
14:03yeah and again he could have pulled it back
14:07but at the sheer pace of it over the top of the goalkeeper
14:12but all these free kicks we've seen players trying to hammer it from 25-30 yards
14:18and suddenly we see a little bit of invention a little bit of finesse to that one
14:22and it's paid off ansomely
14:24here's Montiano
14:25Rattachoy
14:28Rattachoy
14:31now Haji
14:34Lupescu
14:38well now let's see whether Romania can match Sweden's inventiveness
14:45Sweden 1-0
14:479 minutes or so of the game left
14:51but Romania
14:52with an opportunity here
14:55and a man with a devilish left foot on him
15:00but have they also
15:02got a little trick up their sleeves
15:04that proved so devastating for Sweden just a couple of so minutes
15:08fast
15:14well Haji versus the Swedish wall
15:17versus Thomas Rivelli
15:19and save
15:20an orthodox free kick
15:25but a brilliantly executed one
15:27and it called for an excellent piece of goalkeeping by the veteran Swedish keeper
15:32just flicking it away
15:34corner then
15:35sorry Kev
15:36I was going to say you'd be disappointed if it beat him
15:37but again
15:39you've got to give him credit for being there
15:40forward Ingersson here's Schwartz again
15:42they'll be just happy to keep ball at the moment
15:44play it down the line
15:46let's take more time
15:48here's the cross coming in
15:49but it'll be too long for Darlene
15:51for Darlene
15:55just want to keep it
15:56in possession
15:57taking his time
15:58heating up a few more seconds
16:00finds Broline
16:01the match winner at the moment
16:03flipping the ball in for Kenneth Anderson now
16:07keeping possession well here at the moment Swedes
16:09and the cross comes in
16:10Darlene
16:11on the end of it
16:12that'll be a corner
16:14the keeper I think
16:15caught him out of the corner of my eye
16:16was slipped badly there
16:21that was a super bit of play there
16:22yeah he's a big man but he's got good ability
16:24and the keeper does slip
16:26and the defender does really well
16:27because you fancy Darlene there don't you
16:29you really fancy him to get on the end of it
16:30Wodan doing his job well
16:33Broline going across for the corner
16:34there's the slip
16:36there's the good bit of defence
16:37there's less ability
16:39right
16:40it's another free kick to Romania
16:42Paji and Dumitrescu over it
16:44what are they going to try
16:45are they going to try something a bit saucy here
16:47I wonder
16:49they need to very quickly
16:50Paji
16:52it's coming up
16:53it's a goal
16:55by Reniccio
16:56it's 1-1
17:01he deserves that Brian
17:02he has worked his socks up up front for them
17:04they've only played with one up
17:06a little bit fortunate that it came to him
17:08the way it did
17:10but the finish was excellent
17:11I think it's deflected
17:13very seriously deflected
17:15but his finish was good
17:19and you can imagine the celebrations going on in Bucharest now
17:26a very well taken goal indeed
17:28he rode his luck
17:31when the deflection came his way
17:33and Reniccio makes it 1-1
17:37he can't get in the AC Milan side
17:39but he's certainly done well in this Romanian side up front
17:42he's foraged it along Borough really
17:44he's on his own all the time
17:46and that finish was fantastic
17:48inside the last two minutes of the game
17:50he's on his way
17:51he's on his own all the way
17:53he's on his own all the way
17:56so which way will it swing now
17:59took a long time coming to the boil this one
18:01but my goodness
18:05it's bubbling now as Darlene takes a shot just wide of the Romanian goal
18:08Darlene takes a shot just wide of the Romanian goal
18:17it's a pity Brian that the last 20 minutes of this game
18:20hasn't been like this all the way through
18:22you know it has been exciting
18:23and Haji finds a sensational last blow
18:34proud unhappy with the way that Romania were backing off
18:36but maybe they were just biding their time
18:39this is a tremendous run here
18:41but the shot is over the top
18:43and the substitute Pandira
18:46fresh pair of legs and it showed there
18:49he went past some very tired players there
18:51I think we could see in extra time
18:53a lot of goals
18:55because there are players sending out distress signals on this pitch now
18:58and that tiredness means mistakes
19:00mistakes usually lead to goals
19:04also psychologically Brian
19:06the pendulum swung hasn't it?
19:08you know they look dead and buried and now they're right back in it
19:10the Romanians
19:11really blow for the Swedes there
19:14we want just a couple of minutes left
19:16absolutely
19:18Lucrescu
19:24Dimitrescu
19:28right to Petrescu
19:31another try
19:36that's a foul
19:38and it's a free kick
19:40I think Milt has really
19:43struggled to go with the pace this game
19:45he's just worked up and down
19:47he's done his
19:49his work but he hasn't really contributed to the general play of Sweden in any way
19:53and I wouldn't be surprised if we see
19:55maybe a swap in that position
19:58just catches Redochoy here
20:00here
20:01but Tomato Choi says no I don't need treatment on the field
20:05the game goes on
20:07it's a free kick to Romania
20:09Georgie Hadji on the far side
20:11Chicken
20:21Roly
20:22hit long towards Darlene it's a one against one here but
20:28but well, Lodan did well, it's extra time here, it's the score after 90 minutes, Romania won, Sweden won, and we'll be back for that extra time.
20:41Well, you've got to say, not been the best 90 minutes football we've seen in this World Cup, but both goals come in from free kicks,
20:50and again, set-piece is vitally important, coaches work on them, spend a lot of time on them, and again, proved to be a fantastic free kick for Sweden,
20:58and to get them ahead, and then maybe a slightly more fortunate one for Romania, the season's seeing extra time here,
21:04despite 90 minutes of open play, the goals have come from free kicks.
21:09Darlene battling for Sweden, both teams, incidentally, practised very heavily their penalties yesterday,
21:19the Swedes for half an hour here after training, and the Romanians, I gather, for an hour.
21:26Schwartz playing it in, and an easy one this time from Prunia.
21:33How do you practice a penalty, Brian?
21:35Well, you can't get 100,000 people in here and get the climate of the quarterfinal of the World Cup, can you?
21:43We did it once at Liverpool, because I missed a penalty, and we had a competition, and the chap who won it, when we got one,
21:52about 10 games after, didn't want to take it.
21:55So, what was the point, you know?
21:58The thing is, it's the man on the day who can stand up and stick it in the back of the net,
22:01and if he misses it, it doesn't destroy him for the rest of his career.
22:04They have a good penalty to take, this was a good catch.
22:10Darlene.
22:18Away come Romania.
22:19And, wearing the number 10 shirt, Haji, bringing it inside, and the Swedes just get there in time.
22:27And, what will he do, will he whip it in, will he float it in, or will he just do that?
22:40Oh, he's, very cleverly, Lupescu, who then, completely messed it up, and in the end,
22:45Dumitrescu, almost made it sneak in, and you can see with the look on his face,
22:50he knew he'd hit it poorly, but suddenly he realised it almost went in,
22:54and Ravelli was very late getting down again.
22:56Always a good way to get a reaction, I feel, is to look at players' faces,
23:05and they really thought, for one minute, this has beaten him.
23:08He was, as you said, Brian, ever so late.
23:10I don't know if he was unsighted or what, but it was a last-minute job,
23:13and again, he didn't get his body beat.
23:20Darlene again.
23:23He might get a shot in here.
23:25Oh, that's why he didn't really catch it the way he wanted to catch it,
23:29and the look of agony on his face tells you that.
23:31He's starting to run at players now, which he hasn't been doing earlier on.
23:37Didn't quite catch it, as you say, Brian, just pulled it a bit.
23:40But had it been on target, or a corner, because that's really where the most angels come from in this game,
23:46from set pieces.
23:46Hadji played it in there now for Dumitrescu, and he wants it too long.
23:51There was a terrible mistake in the Swedish defence, and they were made to pay in full for it.
24:03That's his second goal of the game, and who knows, it could be the one that puts Romania on their way to the semi-final.
24:09Hadji's little free-kick.
24:11Dumitrescu.
24:12And it was just touched on there by Patrick Anderson, and that gave Ravelli no chance, Kevin.
24:19Yeah, I think it was Nielsen who got this touch, isn't it?
24:22Is it Nielsen?
24:23No, it's Anderson.
24:24What a great finish.
24:26I mean, he's got time.
24:28It was a little fortunate the way it came to him, but once it got there, the finish was clinical, wasn't it?
24:33Agi, knocking it forward.
24:40Here it come Romania again.
24:43Dumitrescu.
24:45Hold over.
24:48Free-kick.
24:49And a yellow card.
24:50And a red card.
24:51Schwartz goes off.
24:54That was his second yellow card, and Sweden are down to ten men.
25:01Stefan Schwartz.
25:03And really, it's all gone wrong for Sweden.
25:08Schwartz, who joins Arsenal at the start of this next season, leaves Sweden with ten men.
25:16And a 2-1 deficit.
25:26Here we are again.
25:28As he clentered into Dumitrescu.
25:31The ball had long since gone, in fairness, Kevin.
25:34He didn't argue.
25:35I said to him, I think we were talking in the second half there, watch players' reactions.
25:39He knew he had to go.
25:40It was just a professional foul, and they're the sort of things that they want to clamp down on, and I think he deservedly is off the pitch.
25:52It's another twist.
25:53Are we going to see ten men come back against eleven?
25:55Well, ten men have done well in every game so far.
26:01Same yesterday, they've scored more.
26:04Seven goals, I think it is.
26:06And conceded only six, when teams have been down to ten men.
26:09There's Hadji, over this, I would imagine he would take a little ball back from Dumitrescu, and then lash something.
26:16No, he's going to do it straight up, but it's just gone wide.
26:18Smiles returning to the faces of Romanian players, but haunted just a few minutes before the end of normal time.
26:31While it's at 2-1, there's always a chance of a mistake, which led up to, obviously, the Romanian goal.
26:36That was just a mistake by the Swedish defence, or a free kick, or a set-piece, like a corner.
26:41And, you know, you're always on that little thin line that you're not quite sure.
26:45They're knocking these long balls in again now, but there's the whistle for the end of the first half,
26:50with Romania now leading Sweden by two goals to one.
26:54Let's get a view from Jack and Ray Wilkins.
27:01I just wonder, Kevin, what odds you would have got for Bulgaria and Romania in the semi-finals at the start of this event.
27:07Well, you know, it's been a...
27:10It's not a strange World Cup, a very interesting World Cup.
27:13And, uh...
27:15We're in the land of the free, that's why they're singing their anthem, and, you know,
27:20they're there because they've hung in there when they've had to hung in,
27:22they've defended well when they've had to defend,
27:25and they have been inventive when they've needed to be.
27:28Well, with the shots...
27:31But you're right, Brian, they're not every...
27:33You know, if you wrote down your final four,
27:35nobody would have put these two into the semi-finals.
27:39But that's great for football, just that little bit of...
27:42the unpredictable.
27:44Here comes Hadji.
27:45And a chat was made a break for him,
27:47and so too had Dimitrescu.
27:49He's got a little knot there, Brian, and he's limping back, and, uh...
28:02I wouldn't be surprised if Tommy Svensson brings on a fresh pair of legs,
28:05because, you know, with...
28:07with 10, many just take its toll, and, of course, it is still hot here.
28:12We mustn't let people think that this...
28:14today's really cool here.
28:15It's just cooler than it has been.
28:18It's cold in this country, but I'll tell you.
28:21You should have told me to have brought a coat with me.
28:23Here comes Hadji.
28:28And Dura...
28:29The Swedes want to take everything fairly quickly now.
28:54I don't go, I don't go, I don't go, I don't go!
28:56And the sub, the sub coming on for Sweden is Larsson.
29:05Young with it.
29:09Nielsen.
29:12Great opportunity, really, for Romania to catch them on the break,
29:15because the Swedes, just as Romania were in the last minutes of normal time,
29:19know that you've got to push everybody forward.
29:22He's got a goal!
29:24Anderson has done the job that his six-foot-four frame
29:30has put him in the Sweden team four.
29:35And it's back at 2-2.
29:39And we said earlier, Brian, we're amazed
29:40they didn't just throw some hopeful balls in,
29:42because they have got a big advantage in height.
29:45But what was the goalkeeper doing?
29:46He's come, he's got nowhere near this ball.
29:50And again, that'll go down as another goalkeeping area.
29:52And we've seen a fair few in this World Cup.
29:54And the Romanian defenders looking at their goalkeeper with their hands outstretched,
30:00saying exactly what Kevin has just said, what were you doing?
30:03Up he goes,
30:08Kenneth Anderson,
30:09a terrific goal.
30:12A good headed goal there by the big man.
30:16Nolan Nielsen's cross.
30:18He hangs in the air, Brian.
30:20Look, he's up, he's hanging.
30:22And you've got to fault the keeper,
30:23but technically nothing away from Kenneth Anderson.
30:25That is a great striker's goal.
30:27So which way will it turn next?
30:35All this for a place in the World Cup Finals of 1944.
30:38What do you want to say?
30:4644.
30:4744.
30:4744.
30:501994.
30:53There's Anderson again.
30:54Oh, it's a save.
30:55And Larson will get there.
30:58No!
30:58Wow!
30:59Wow!
31:07Well, that was an amazing let-off.
31:11The Swedes get a corner.
31:15It could so easily have scored a goal.
31:17Again, Kenneth Anderson doing a terrific job
31:22and the keeper doing well to hold him at bay.
31:32Now faces him.
31:40It's a Swedish throw.
31:43The worst thing that happened for Romania
31:44was Sweden going down to 10 men.
31:47Definitely.
31:48Well, there is the end of extra time.
31:50And now we have a penalty shootout.
31:54Who takes the first one.
31:56Big responsibility too on the referee
31:58to make sure that everything is conducted perfectly
32:00and straight away he said to Mule
32:02that ball has got to be on the spot.
32:03So Sweden now
32:04looking to go one-off in the penalty shootout.
32:07Oh!
32:08He's ballooned it over the top.
32:10Well, that's a disastrous start for the Swedes.
32:22If you think back to the penalties the other night, Brian,
32:24in Bulgaria,
32:27was it Bulgaria who took the penalties
32:30and trying to think which game it was now.
32:31It seems that there was a penalty shootout
32:33and all five, Stojkovic and people like this,
32:37they were very cool under pressure.
32:38Well, it's Rada Chow.
32:47He scored twice.
32:49And now
32:49looks to add this one.
32:52What a good penalty.
32:54What a good penalty.
32:55Right in the corner.
32:58Taking Jack Charlton's view.
33:01He'd obviously made up his mind
33:02where he was...
33:03...that one.
33:03And he rammed it straight in there.
33:06Well, I think to be fair,
33:07so did Milt.
33:08But unfortunately,
33:08he got under the ball
33:09and put it over.
33:11I think the most difficult one to take
33:12is the first one.
33:19Here comes the next one.
33:20I think he'll just blast it this man.
33:25Sweden already have missed one.
33:27That's...
33:28Straight in there.
33:30That levels it up at 1-1 on the score.
33:32But of course, Romania
33:32have taken one fewer.
33:35George Hadji is the next to go.
33:40Good penalty.
33:43When they say goalkeeper has no chance,
33:47there's the perfect example.
33:48Well, Hadji,
33:50who is a little magician.
33:52And we've seen
33:53and delighted
33:54at some of the skills
33:56he's shown in this World Cup.
33:58But now,
33:59it's not just a matter of skills.
34:01It's a matter
34:02of a supreme test of nerve.
34:05He's given a fantastic example
34:06to his Romanian side.
34:09He's got one more big job
34:10to do here now.
34:11He just gave a little shake of the fist there.
34:27So the relief for him was pretty good.
34:29Not so for Raveli.
34:31Another good penalty, Brian.
34:35This one picked his spot
34:36just like Jack said.
34:39Faithful left foot of his
34:41did not let him down.
34:42Now, Thomas Broline,
34:43I think,
34:44is the next one coming up
34:45for Sweden.
34:47He looked
34:47after 88 minutes or so
34:50as though
34:50with his lovely piece of invention
34:52had won the tie
34:53away for the Swedes.
35:00There's an anxious
35:01face
35:02of the goalkeeper.
35:04What alertness there is
35:05in Florian Premier's face there.
35:11Well,
35:12if there was a mistake
35:13with the second Swedish goal
35:14he's got a chance
35:15to redeem himself.
35:16And Broline,
35:18calm as you like,
35:19wheels away.
35:22It levels it
35:23at 2-2
35:24but of course
35:24as I've said before
35:25the Romanians
35:27have taken
35:27one penalty fewer.
35:33It's a cruel game.
35:34And you've got a man
35:35coming forward now
35:36which is Lupecu
35:37who plays in Germany
35:40for Bayer Leverkusen
35:41and has really worked
35:44probably as hard
35:45as anybody on this field today
35:46through those midfield areas.
35:49I think he's been
35:49their best player, Brian.
35:50I wouldn't disagree with you.
35:52And it could all mean nothing
35:53in a moment.
35:55But he's
35:56rammed that one home as well.
35:583-2
35:59now to Romania.
36:04Are we going to see
36:05another twist?
36:05The Swedes actually
36:06are looking around
36:06not sure
36:07who's next to go.
36:08Ingersen.
36:10It's Ingersen
36:11who's going.
36:15The advantage is back
36:16with Romania
36:17but we've seen it
36:18swing so much
36:19in this match
36:19you wouldn't bet
36:20against it
36:20swinging back again.
36:21To do that
36:22of course
36:22he's got to stick
36:23this one in
36:24as Ingersen.
36:27Players don't look
36:28too happy
36:28with the penalty spot.
36:30You know
36:30they're chopping it
36:31around a little bit
36:31as if it's a bit
36:32worn away.
36:33Ingersen
36:36against
36:37Prumia
36:3925-year-old
36:41Romanian
36:41goalkeeper.
36:44Michael
36:45kick this
36:45for Swin.
36:46is there to be
36:54another twist.
36:56Dan Petrescu
36:57comes forward
36:58as we see
36:59the replay
36:59of that
37:00fullback.
37:0826 years old
37:10played for Stoia
37:12Bucharest
37:13played in Italy
37:14for Foggia
37:15and now
37:16for Genoa
37:17missed the
37:191990
37:19World Cup
37:20finals
37:20with a knee
37:21injury
37:21but can make
37:22a little
37:22name for himself
37:24here
37:24what's saved
37:25by Ravetti
37:26down he goes
37:28on his knees
37:29the poor
37:29Romanian
37:30and that
37:37levels it up
37:37and you've
37:39got to say
37:40Brian
37:40if you're
37:40going to put
37:40a penalty
37:41anywhere
37:41this is the
37:42easiest place
37:42for a keeper
37:43to reach
37:43just the right
37:45height
37:45and that's
37:46what Rivelli
37:46did
37:47well
37:49Petrescu
37:50is in tears
37:51Roland Nielsen
37:55a captain's part
37:56the fifth penalty
37:57we stand
37:58absolutely level
37:59and if this goes in
38:04and if this goes in
38:04Brian
38:04imagine the pressure
38:05on the last player
38:06that Romania
38:07decides going to
38:07take their penalty
38:08if Nielsen
38:09sticks this in
38:10this could be a
38:11semi-final place
38:12it really could
38:12but if he doesn't
38:14but if he doesn't
38:14then Romania
38:15will say
38:15well we've only got
38:16to stick one in
38:17ourselves
38:17Roland Nielsen
38:18now for Sweden
38:19well he certainly
38:21meant that one
38:22to go in
38:22and now suddenly
38:24what an amazing
38:26seesaw game
38:27this is
38:27suddenly
38:29you would have
38:29thought Romania
38:30were just a couple
38:31of kicks away
38:32from a semi-final
38:33place
38:33now they have to
38:35score from this
38:36one
38:36to save the
38:37possibility
38:38of a semi-final
38:38place
38:39Sweden leading
38:41by 4-3
38:42on penalties
38:43and of course
38:44if
38:45Dimitrescu
38:46scores from this
38:48we go on
38:49taking them
38:50in a sudden
38:50death fashion
38:51what
38:53a vital
38:55kick
38:55of the ball
38:56this is
38:57and Rivelli
38:58do it again
38:59we go
39:03into overtime
39:05in the penalty
39:05shootout
39:06now
39:06were they having
39:08words
39:08they were having
39:09words
39:10I'll tell you
39:10why they're having
39:11words
39:11because Rivelli
39:12is doing
39:13something similar
39:14to what Bruce
39:14Grobelar was doing
39:15if you remember
39:16in Rome
39:17there it is now
39:19just jogging
39:20on the line
39:21yeah
39:21and that's
39:22I think
39:23Don's had a word
39:24with him
39:24I don't think
39:25Philip Don's
39:26booked him
39:26he may have done
39:27because he's
39:27no
39:28I think he's
39:29just keeping
39:29a note of the
39:30penalties
39:30now it's
39:31sudden death
39:31now it's
39:32sudden death
39:33the sixth one
39:33comes up
39:34and that's
39:34lost
39:34if he scores
39:38and the
39:39Romanian
39:39misses
39:40Swedes go
39:41through
39:42suddenly if he
39:42misses and the
39:43Romanians score
39:44the Romanians go
39:46through
39:47he scores
39:49slotted that in
39:50beautifully
39:51and you've got to
40:01remember Brian
40:02the ones coming
40:02up now are the
40:03ones who didn't
40:05want to take
40:05them or weren't
40:06considered to take
40:07them
40:07each one who
40:10walks up now
40:10I mean I've never
40:11been in this
40:11situation and I can
40:12honestly say I'm
40:13pretty pleased about
40:14them
40:14yeah I don't think
40:15there have any
40:16many of the
40:17millions who are
40:17watching us now
40:18that say I'll tell
40:20you what I
40:20wouldn't mind
40:21being in this
40:21man's shoes
40:22not many would
40:25want
40:25that
40:26well
40:28the
40:28the
40:31goalkeeper's the
40:37hero
40:38and for the
40:39second successive
40:40world cup
40:40Romania go out
40:42on a penalty
40:43shootout
40:44beaten by Jack
40:45Charlton's
40:46Ireland in
40:461990
40:47and now by
40:49Tommy Svensson
40:49Sweden in
40:501994
40:51you have to feel
40:53dreadfully sorry
40:54for the Romanians
40:55but the Swedes
40:57have shown great
40:58stickability
40:59and Thomas
41:00Rovelli
41:01their veteran
41:02goalkeeper
41:02is the real
41:03hero of the
41:04day now
41:05well that's been
41:08an amazing
41:09finale
41:10and the Swedes
41:11going into the
41:12centre
41:12circle
41:13I hope to
41:14salute their
41:15fans
41:15and I hope
41:16also to
41:17commiserate
41:18with the
41:18Romanians
41:19who are just
41:20lying there
41:21now
41:21completely
41:23shocked by
41:24what's gone
41:24on
41:24they've given
41:26everything
41:27they looked
41:28for a while
41:28in that second
41:29period of extra
41:30time when
41:31Sweden were down
41:31to ten men
41:32and they were
41:32leading
41:33as though they'd
41:34won it
41:34it looked as
41:35though a
41:35semi-final
41:36place against
41:36Brazil
41:37was there for
41:38the taking
41:38but the
41:39Swedes
41:40are together
41:41they're a
41:43family unit
41:44they are loving
41:45every moment
41:46of it
41:46and my word
41:48how they worked
41:49for this place
41:50in a semi-final
41:51against Brazil
41:52their nerve
41:54has stayed intact
41:55none more so
41:56than Thomas
41:56Rovelli
41:57their 35 year old
41:59goalkeeper
42:00winning a record
42:01number of caps
