Udhampur, (J&K), June 18, 2025 (ANI): Sangyal village of Udhampur district has been facing acute water shortage since decades now. Residents carry water from distant sources on horses to meet their daily needs. Sangyal village in Gujru Mohalla, Udhampur, has remained without a water supply since Independence. Around 1,000–1,500 residents are forced to trek 2–3 km daily. Many ride on horses to fetch water from a centuries-old Bowli near the Dak Bungalow.Despite multiple government schemes, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, the village still lacks piped water. Only 200 out of 500 households have been connected under the Water Supply Scheme, with delays reportedly caused by payment disputes with the contractor. Locals say they’ve heard similar promises for years and demand urgent intervention as the water crisis worsens in the summer heat.
