00:09However, it appears unlikely that the US will join the move after President Donald Trump suggested he was opposed to further measures.
00:20Asked if he was united with Europe on sanctions over Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Trump responded that the Europeans should do it first,
00:28adding that sanctions would cost the US a lot of money.
00:32He also said he wanted to revive stalled peace negotiations before imposing any new penalties on Moscow.
00:39Meanwhile, Downing Street said the new sanctions package would aim to maintain pressure on Russia's military-industrial complex, although details remain limited.
00:48Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement that he and other G7 partners were finalizing the new measures at the summit in Alberta,
00:55which could include targeting Russia's energy revenues.
00:59The UK has already sanctioned over 2,300 individuals, entities and ships as part of sanctions against the Kremlin since 2022.
