00:00Leading off with our latest, Taiwan's opposition parties have rejected an invitation from President Lai Qingde to attend a national security briefing.
00:30President Lai proposed meeting with the opposition in a speech he gave on his first anniversary in office.
00:42The meeting was scheduled to take place on Wednesday morning and would have touched on matters of national security and diplomacy.
00:49But Huang says that those plans were made unilaterally and that in the meantime, Lai and his allies have continued to smear the opposition.
00:57At another press conference, the main opposition, Guo Mingdang, also said they would not attend the meeting.
01:03KMT Chair Eric Zhu said that he welcomes the prospect of good faith cross-party talks, but set forth a condition before it could happen.
01:10The KMT also said that it requested parts of the meeting to be open door, but that the presidential office rejected the request.
01:33In a response, the presidential office said that matters of national security are classified and can only be talked about under closed door conditions.
