Former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel passed away at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) on Tuesday (June 17).

He was 76.

00:13and Environment Minister died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital at 8 a.m.
00:17Penang-born Palanivel's political career began in 1987 when he was appointed Press
00:23Secretary to then Works Minister Toon S. Samivelu.
00:26He was appointed as the 8th President of M.I.C. in December 2010, succeeding Samivelu,
00:33who held the position for 31 years. He joined Datuk Seriji Najib Razak's cabinet in June 2010
00:40as the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities. He was then appointed as a
00:45minister in the Prime Minister's Department in 2011. Palanivel won the Hulu-Silangor parliamentary
00:52seat in the 1990 general election and served as the M.P. for four consecutive terms before
00:59losing the seat in 2008. He returned to Parliament in 2013 as Cameron Hyland's M.P.
