00:00If aliens really existed, some scientists wonder why they haven't reached Earth or made contact
00:08yet. ScienceAlert reports that it could be because it's too expensive for extraterrestrials to visit
00:14our planet. Think about it in terms of our history of space exploration. Sending astronauts to the
00:19moon during the Apollo program cost $25.4 billion, or about $150 billion in today's money, according
00:26to CNN. Even before that, Project Mercury and Project Gemini cost about $2.3 and $10 billion
00:32respectively, and that's from June 1958 to 1972. Now we have Project Artemis, which will cost about
00:38$30 billion over the next four years. That's a lot of money just to get to our own moon,
00:42so the cost of interstellar missions would be astronomical. Not to mention we don't know
00:47whether interstellar travel is even feasible or practical for an alien civilization, and they
00:51might not even be motivated to colonize other star systems.
