Are there aliens out there somewhere?
Transcript
00:00Our search for life out on the cosmos has thus far turned up, well, nothing.
00:08But there is almost certainly life out there somewhere, even if it's just some extraterrestrial bacteria.
00:13But until we can get boots, or at least the treaded wheels of a rover on the surface of those planets most likely to have life,
00:19we'll likely never be able to confirm it.
00:21That is, of course, unless that life is intelligent, and that life is like that of Earth's,
00:25and constantly sending technosignatures out into space.
00:28And that's exactly what radio-sensing programs like SETI, or the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence program, is doing.
00:34SETI has detected a number of possible alien broadcasts over the years,
00:37but follow-ups on those have been unable to produce confirmation of extraterrestrial life.
00:42And that's probably because alien life, or at least intelligent alien life,
00:46probably hasn't occurred in Earth's general cosmic vicinity.
00:49Enter the Galileo Project.
00:50The program is only looking for aliens in terms of hard evidence,
00:54meaning they're looking to investigate interstellar objects in space,
00:57or those that fall to Earth for signs of life,
00:59and looking at unidentified aerial phenomena that occur in infrared, radio, and optical bands,
01:04and those that are able to be recorded via audio data,
01:07meaning looking at observable data most likely to be exhibited and produced by aliens
01:11that are on the same technological level as humans.
