00:00Hey guys, welcome back or welcome to my channel. In today's video, I wanted to talk about the pros and cons of solo traveling.
00:08Solo traveling is one of those things that has become more and more popular through social media, even for myself.
00:17I don't know if I would have become a solo traveler if I didn't see other people doing it on the internet.
00:23So I completely understand the ripple effect that social media has, where I don't think in the past as many people or as many young people would just get up and go travel the world by themselves.
00:35But in this growing social media era, it is a thing. And I would definitely say that is how I would categorize myself.
00:44I have been to 135 countries and 105 of those countries I have gone to all by myself.
00:53The entire year of 2025, I have been solo traveling the world by myself and I plan to keep doing that for the rest of the year as I am in pursuit of visiting every single country in the world and nobody's coming with me.
01:12This year, I plan to visit the entire continent of Africa.
01:17I've been working on Africa because it is the biggest continent in the world.
01:22Africa has 54 countries. My goal is to get to all 54 this year and I've been doing it all by myself.
01:30So far, I have visited 12 African countries. I have 42 more countries to get to this year in Africa and if everything goes as planned, which I believe and hope and pray it will, we will have finished the entire continent of Africa this year.
01:48All alone, I'll have done it all by myself. I've already visited Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Morocco, Indonesia, all by myself.
02:09When we finish Africa this year, next year, I will only have about 15 countries left before I can say that I've visited every single country in the world.
02:22Five reasons why solo traveling is absolutely amazing and why it's one of the best things you can do in the world.
02:30And I have five reasons why solo traveling is horrible and you should never do it if you know what's good for you.
02:36Yes, it's one of those polarizing subjects where I think it is the best thing and the absolute worst thing.
02:45I always tell people that I do not recommend this only if you're crazy. So let's get into the reasons.
02:51Before we get into the video, I'm going to mention the people who make this dream possible.
02:56Yes, I don't want to mention to visit every single country in the world.
02:59And as you can imagine, it is incredibly expensive, like the most expensive thing you could possibly choose to do with your life is to try to visit every country in the world.
03:09And I am on a mission to complete the entire continent of Africa this year because there are 54 countries in Africa.
03:18And yeah, we're talking extremely expensive. So I have a GoFundMe and we're so close to hitting our first milestone of 10k.
03:28I am so grateful for everyone who comes to help because even $5 and $10 and $15 it adds up and I'm so grateful.
03:37So I want to shout out the recent donators of this past week.
03:41Myesha Cromer, Serena Dawson, Lisa, I'm going to butcher your last name, Dorsal, I'm going to butcher your last name, Lisa D.
03:54Sheila Sylvain, Phoebe Thomas, Letitia Jasmine, Markins St. Val, Suzanne Johnson, JW, Joshua Morris, Justina Morris, Carmen Martinez, Dennis Almilo, Danny Tanner, Tina and Cameron.
04:18They're my most recent donators. And I will be in every single video shouting you guys out if you donate unless you donate anonymously.
04:29And I have these beautiful postcards that I send out. If you donate and you want a postcard, I'd be more than happy to send you a postcard.
04:39I got some really pretty ones in Paris here in Paris. So yeah, if you want a postcard, if you donate, just let me know.
04:50Again, we're so close to hitting 10k on the GoFundMe. I'd love it if we could hit it today.
04:56That would only be for us to hit 10k on the GoFundMe. That would only be 80 people giving $10.
05:03So if you could give even $10 to my GoFundMe, I think today we could reach the 10k goal and that would be so or 10k milestone.
05:16And that would be so amazing because I really want to complete and raise the entire amount on my GoFundMe before I head back to Africa to finish the continent.
05:27So, okay, first I'm going to talk about five reasons that solo traveling is amazing and why it's one of the best things you choose to do with your life.
05:36Reason number one is you have total freedom. If you're traveling with somebody else, you have to tailor your travels with that person.
05:46So the person is an early riser. You're somebody who likes to stay in bed or that person loves to walk.
05:53You love to take taxis. That person loves adventurous activities.
05:58Me jumping out of planes, bungee jumping, going on hikes, and you're totally not that type. You want to eat. You want to sit in cafes.
06:08And so when you're somebody like me, it's like, it just makes things so weird.
06:14I'm also like a grandma. I'm back in my hotel by six. I want to read.
06:20I just really difficult to try and mesh with somebody and have fun at the same time.
06:25Yeah, it's been a year since I've traveled with somebody else. I've been solo traveling for years now.
06:30But that definitely used to happen a lot. I'd like to think I'm a lot more mature now.
06:35You want, when you want, how you want, where you want to eat, how long you want to stay out.
06:40You know what I'm saying? That is the amazing part.
06:43Another reason I love solo traveling is because you grow like crazy.
06:49I think the world's most confident people are solo travelers.
06:52If you can go on a trip by yourself in complete contentment and you're totally fine and you're not scared and you can handle everything that comes with traveling.
07:03Because traveling is no joke sometimes. A lot of things happen. Unexpected things.
07:09Problems. You get sick or whatever the case may be.
07:13If you can handle all that by yourself in a foreign country with people you don't know, you can do anything in the world.
07:20So I think solo traveling breeds the most confident, capable, coolest people in the world.
07:28It grows you up like crazy. There's no one else to rely on.
07:32Number three reason why I love solo traveling is because it can deeper your cultural connection.
07:39When you are somewhere, when you're in a foreign country by yourself, you have no choice but to connect with the culture that you're in.
07:47When you're traveling with somebody else, your attention is like on that other person.
07:52So when you have nobody else with you and you're traveling, it's like you're completely immersed in where you are.
08:01It's a different story when you're with somebody else.
08:03And I don't really know how to explain it further than that, but it's very true.
08:07When I am traveling somewhere, it's like I'm completely surrounded by the culture.
08:12I am in it.
08:13If I'm with somebody else or if anybody's with somebody else, you are more focused on the person you're with.
08:19You're going to engage most with the person you're traveling with versus being completely submerged in where you are.
08:28Reason number four is you meet people easier.
08:31I would say that I have met 90% of my friends because they've come up to me.
08:3790% of my friends.
08:40I have friends all over the world.
08:42I have met all of them.
08:44Let me think.
08:45Yeah, literally 90% of my friends came up and talked to me because they saw me by myself.
08:50One of my best friends.
08:52I was sitting in a cafe in Kazakhstan.
08:54Actually, I'm sitting in Starbucks in Kazakhstan, a random country that sits underneath Russia.
09:00I was sitting completely alone in Starbucks in Kazakhstan.
09:06I obviously stood out because there's not a whole lot of people looking like me walking around Kazakhstan.
09:11And my girlfriend Adele walks up to me and she's just like, hi, can I talk to you?
09:19She brings her purse.
09:20She takes her purse.
09:21She sits next to me.
09:22We talk for literally six hours.
09:25We became best friends.
09:26But she came up to me because she's like, who's this girl by herself in my country?
09:31You know that she's like, who are you?
09:33She was very interested.
09:35Also, all of my friends in Paris.
09:37Same story.
09:38I was walking around.
09:39They saw me.
09:40They came up to me.
09:41I think when you're traveling alone, it's a little bit easier.
09:47People are more apt to connect with you.
09:49Every day, I have some interesting conversation with somebody that I probably wouldn't have had that encounter if I was with somebody else.
09:58You know what I'm saying?
10:00Because they probably leave me alone.
10:03You're left alone a little bit more when somebody sees that you're with somebody, if that makes sense.
10:07But that also could be a bad thing.
10:10It definitely does cause a lot more negative attention, too.
10:14But, yeah, it's definitely how I met most of my friends.
10:19They're like, oh, who's this girl by herself?
10:21And I have cool conversations every day with somebody because I'm alone.
10:26And so I'm just a little bit more approachable.
10:28You know what I'm saying?
10:29Hold on.
10:30My grandma's calling me.
10:32You guys, the funniest thing just happened.
10:34My grandma just called me.
10:36And so, you know, when somebody is trying to ask you a question, but they don't want to ask you directly, she started saying all these things.
10:48Basically, someone told her about the video I just posted about me being single.
10:53Someone called her and told her, oh, Mary Jane just said she's single.
11:03But I didn't tell her.
11:05So she just called me, but she didn't want to outright say that.
11:08So she's like, I don't know.
11:11It was just very funny.
11:12She was basically trying to ask me about the I'm single video I just posted the other day.
11:16And she's like, are you?
11:18I have to update you guys about that whole subject.
11:20Because as soon as I posted the video, that's the crazy thing about being on YouTube.
11:27Sorry, not to get sidetracked, but it's like sometimes you forget how many people are watching and the ripple effect it can cause.
11:38And so anyways, that video I posted the other day about being single kind of had a backfiring effect, especially with the person that I am talking about that I'm single from.
11:54I talked to them and they were like, are you single?
12:00You're not single.
12:01We're fighting.
12:02What are you talking about?
12:04You're not single.
12:05So let me update you guys in a couple of weeks, because apparently I when you think you've broken up with somebody and then the person calls you and they're like, we're fighting.
12:18We're not broken up.
12:20And it's just like, okay, you know what?
12:23Jesus needs to take the wheel.
12:25You guys pray.
12:27My angels, my mothers in Christ, my spiritual mothers, please pray for me.
12:34Because it's just been this roller coaster.
12:38But yeah, as soon as I posted the video the other day about being single, the guy calls me and he's like, you're not single.
12:46We're not broken up.
12:47We're fighting.
12:48What are you talking about?
12:50Help me, Lord.
12:53Help me, Jesus.
12:55Anybody else struggling?
12:57Okay, anyways.
12:59Okay.
13:00Um, that is not what this video is talking about.
13:04Let's get back in.
13:06Okay, let's get back centered here.
13:09We're talking about pros and cons of solo traveling.
13:12Um, yeah, I said pros, you have total freedom, total travel freedom.
13:18You grow like crazy.
13:20You mature like crazy.
13:21You deeper your connection with the culture that you're traveling.
13:25You meet up.
13:26Um, you meet people easier.
13:28You're more approachable if you're by yourself.
13:31Um, and your confidence grows out of the roof.
13:35You become extremely confident because you're like, I can handle the world on my own.
13:40So anyways, now the five reasons you should not solo travel because I do not recommend it.
13:47I say it all the time that I do not recommend solo traveling.
13:50One is people, one reason I don't recommend solo traveling is because people, I, so I said it in a good way in the first part of the video.
14:03People, you become more approachable.
14:04That's also a bad thing.
14:06People are more likely to mess with you if they know you're by yourself.
14:13So it'll give somebody like a lot of confidence to come mess with you when otherwise they wouldn't.
14:19If you were with a man or you're with another person, they might back off a little bit when you're by yourself.
14:25You attract all kinds of crazy weird stalker people and it's no fun.
14:32Um, number two, we live in 2025.
14:36Like just look at the news.
14:37The world's crazy.
14:38Like you, I would always say you're, we're safer in packs.
14:42Like it's been that way since we were tribal since, you know, before civilization.
14:47The more people you have around you, the safer you are.
14:52It's just, that's just one of the simple life rules.
14:55The better chance of survival if you've, the more people you've got.
14:58So, um, yeah, it is, uh, dangerous out here.
15:03We're not living in safe times.
15:04We're living in crazy times.
15:06But, um, no, I wouldn't recommend solo traveling because people are crazy.
15:12Another reason I wouldn't recommend it is, um, everything is on you.
15:17So, say something goes wrong.
15:19Like, um, you loot, you get your, your purse stolen.
15:23Or you, your car breaks down in the middle of the road.
15:27Or you get food poisoning.
15:29Or you get sick and you don't know what's going on.
15:31These things happen all the time.
15:33It's not if, it's when.
15:34That's what my skydiving teacher told me.
15:37You guys know I'm a professional skydiver.
15:39And when I was in skydive training, they were telling me, it's not if something is going
15:46to go wrong.
15:47It's when something goes wrong.
15:50So, that's the thing like solo traveling.
15:53It's not like if something is going to go wrong.
15:56It's when.
15:57When you're traveling, things go wrong.
15:59Your cards, you land somewhere and then boom, your card ain't working.
16:04Or you get your purse stolen.
16:06Or you get hurt or injured.
16:08Or, uh, I don't know.
16:10Anything and everything will happen when you are traveling.
16:14And so, when you're by yourself, it's all on you to figure out.
16:19You don't have another person to share the experience with.
16:24You know what I'm saying?
16:25That can help.
16:26That can be an addition.
16:28Uh, it's just you.
16:29So, you're the one who's got to weather whatever goes on.
16:33Um, I remember one time I was in a hotel and, uh, the fire alarm.
16:39And, you know, it's like evacuate, evacuate, evacuate.
16:44And I was thinking like, like everyone was running out of the hotel.
16:51And I was like, if the fire was right outside of my door, what am I going to do?
16:54I'm like checking windows.
16:56And it was just like a very, like everything was okay.
16:59There was no fire.
17:00It was a false alarm, but it was like just a moment where I was realizing like, wow,
17:04I am, it's on me to figure, to be on at all times, just in case something goes down.
17:11I'm going to be the one that has to figure it out.
17:14That is another con of solo traveling.
17:17And another thing is the judgment.
17:19You get a lot of judgment when you solo travel, especially from family.
17:23I would say, especially if you're a YouTuber, like the, uh, video I just posted the other day
17:30that caused, uh, not a lot of people talk to me directly, but a lot of people talk.
17:37I would say this is the most annoying and crazy part of being a YouTuber and a solo traveler is like,
17:47a lot of my family members, they don't necessarily talk to me directly,
17:51but they will talk about me with the rest of my family, you know?
17:55So when I post that video about being single the other day, a lot of my family members were calling each other.
18:00Did you, did you see her video?
18:01Did you, is she single?
18:03Did you see her video?
18:05You know what I'm saying?
18:06And like, then you got my grandma calling me, trying to ask me in a back way.
18:10Like she was trying to ask me, but without being forward about it.
18:14So how's everything going?
18:16I'm like, I'm talking to my grandma.
18:19I'm just like, you're going to ask me about being single.
18:21Just ask like somebody told you about my video.
18:24She's like, Oh no, no, no, no, no.
18:26I wasn't going to ask.
18:29So listen, we're going to make a whole, give me a month.
18:33You guys give me a month.
18:35Okay.
18:36And I will let you guys know what's going on.
18:38Because when I posted that I'm single video, I got, what?
18:44You're not single.
18:46We're not broken up.
18:48We're not.
18:49We're just fighting.
18:51Why would you say you're single?
18:54You're not single.
18:55We're fighting, right?
18:57And I'm just like, I don't know.
19:00I don't know.
19:02Give me a month.
19:04Give me a month, you guys.
19:06And if you have it in you to pray for me, pray for me.
19:09I've been having a lot of conversations, a lot of talking, a lot of trying to work it out.
19:15But I will say this is also the other part of not solo traveling, but traveling.
19:19It makes relationships so hard.
19:21And I would say that that's what happened with all of the relationships I have going on,
19:25especially, you know, the one that I hoped would end in marriage.
19:32I would say the most difficult part for us is the distance.
19:39Like when you are not physically with somebody all the time, but we've been physically together
19:44these last couple of weeks from me being in Europe.
19:46But when you're always physically away from somebody, it is so hard to resolve a disagreement.
19:51It is so hard.
19:52That's why they say long distance relationships never work.
19:55But I don't agree with that.
19:56I believe they can work.
19:57It's just like it's so hard to mend an argument when you are.
20:03It's so hard to have good communication if you're not physically with the person.
20:07So things can totally, totally be blown out of proportion.
20:13That could have been fixed if we were face to face.
20:16So I'm still fighting, you guys.
20:17We're still fighting.
20:18We're still going through it.
20:20We are, I don't know.
20:22Apparently, I'm not single.
20:24So I don't know.
20:25Who knows what's going on.
20:28But it did cause that kind of reaction.
20:31No, you're not.
20:33We're still, we're still together.
20:35We're fighting, right?
20:36I'm like, I don't know.
20:38I thought, no, we're not single.
20:41I'm single.
20:42Anyways.
20:43Help your girl.
20:44Help your girl, guys.
20:45And I would say that it's no joke being a YouTuber.
20:50Woo, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.
20:55Anyways.
20:56I love you guys.
20:57Thank you so much for keeping along with my travels.
20:59Thank you guys who care enough for me about me to help me want to get to all the countries in the world.
21:06I see you guys tonight because I will be going live.
21:09And stay tuned as we are on a mission to visit and finish all 195 countries in the world.
21:17Come hell or high water, it'll get finished.
21:20And thank you so much to those who've donated.
21:22And if you want to donate, $10 would even be such a help because power in numbers.
21:29So I'll see you guys tomorrow.
21:31And I love you guys.
21:32Hope you have a very good summer.
21:34And make sure you subscribe and have your notifications on.
21:38I'll see you guys tomorrow.
21:39Bye.
