00:00It is an exciting day today, that's for sure.
00:03I'm very proud to be able to stand here and announce that $8.7 million will go towards the new Singleton Police Station.
00:11As is well known, the Singleton Police Station as it stands there today is a heritage building.
00:17It was built in 1666, sorry, it was built in 1866, so as we know it is heritage listed
00:25and therefore we must work with that heritage listing.
00:29So the new building will actually integrate at the back of the heritage building
00:33and we will have those facilities there for the police here in the Singleton area.
00:38The new facility will be fit for purpose.
00:41It will have all the modern technology and the model fit out that we would expect for a modern police force.
00:46It will definitely benefit those who are working in it,
00:49but it will have broader ramifications and benefit for the whole of the Singleton community.
00:54Whilst the building is underway, the police from Singleton will relocate down to Brinkston,
01:00so we'll have obviously as always a 24-hour policing presence in the region.
01:07They will then obviously go back to the new building,
01:10but again, they will definitely be excited.
01:15In fact, I was talking to just some of them yesterday, some of the detectives I met over at Cessnock,
01:19very much looking forward to going back to that building.
01:22Work will begin at the end of this year and we hope that they will be going into that building in 2027.
01:29Now, I thank the community for their patience.
01:31This is a project that has been offered at many elections, election after election after election.
01:38So, really proud to stand here today with the Premier and just over two years putting our money where our mouth is
01:47and the Singleton Police Station will begin building that new building this year.
01:52We'd be happy to take any questions.
