The Drive's Clint Stoerner and Ron "The Show" Hughley give their Texans stock up and stock down after minicamp.
Transcript
00:00We do a little stock action, a little stock up, stock down, today's edition, and we bark.
00:07Your dog's always a little different sounding.
00:10Clint, can I get a bark?
00:14There we go.
00:15Now we up in these stocks.
00:18I didn't know that's what she was going to bring.
00:20I like that.
00:21That's the strongest one, maybe.
00:23That was.
00:24That dog got that dog in me.
00:26Today's edition right here on The Drive is a little Texans mandatory minicamp.
00:34If you've been under a rock, you've missed it.
00:37Today was day two.
00:38We're two days into this mandatory minicamp for the Houston Texans.
00:42Our guys, Ron and Clint, they were both out there, eyes on the practice field, and we got eyes on this market.
00:47We'll start with you, Ron.
00:48The show stock up for you for these Houston Texans as minicamp is underway.
00:53I'm going to go stock up with, and I think D'Amico probably starts with this, but anybody who's involved, and I would think D'Amico, Kales, I can't, Nick Kaley, and Popovich, whoever's involved with the offensive line decisions, I go stock up there, Clint.
01:15Just because there's a couple of moves that I respect.
01:21I don't know if they're going to work out, Clint and Tyler, but I respect.
01:25They're not forcing Juice Scruggs into the top unit or anywhere just because they moved up in the draft to get him number two.
01:36They're not forcing him at center.
01:38They're not forcing Patterson, someone they drafted themselves.
01:41Andrews is somebody who I didn't look at before Camps started as a guy that was going to be a starter.
01:51Hell, not even second string.
01:53He has clearly been the number one center that they have a plan for.
01:57And like I said, I don't know if Juice Scruggs is that much better than everybody else,
02:04but I can respect the thought that they're not trying just because he was a high draft pick.
02:11And just because Cam Robinson is a guy that they spent the most money on in the offseason,
02:18and from an offensive line perspective, he don't look like he's got a shoe-in spot, right?
02:23He may be the starter, but Ariante Ursary is getting as much run.
02:29They're alternating.
02:29It looks like there's a competition there, and, you know, generally you look at some teams, Clint,
02:35hey, man, we spend $12, $14 million on a guy on one year.
02:39He's going to play.
02:41And I'm not saying he won't, but it looks like they are not facing decisions upon how much a guy is making
02:50or will redraft a guy.
02:51It thoroughly looks like we're going to get this thing fixed, and we're going to get it fixed with the top guys.
02:56Again, I don't know if it's going to work, but I do respect that process.
02:59The biggest problem in Houston, I'll argue one of the biggest problems in all the NFL,
03:04is pass protecting for C.J. Stroud.
03:07And I was worried.
03:09A lot of the conversations were, oh, we're just going to pick our best five.
03:12We're going to get our best five up there.
03:14I was worried because they didn't take bigger swings in free agency.
03:19And, look, I don't know how big of a jump they made from a talent perspective.
03:24And I'm not even talking about the Laramie Tunsil, Cam Robinson move right there.
03:27Take that out of the mix.
03:29I don't know how much talent-wise they improved when you look at left guard to right tackle,
03:33those four of their offensive line spots.
03:36But I love the way that they're addressing the issues.
03:40You've got left guards playing left guards.
03:43You've got right guards playing right guards.
03:45You've got centers playing center.
03:46You've got tackles playing rebounds around a little bit.
03:51And as you mentioned, Juice Scruggs playing all three interior spots.
03:54Everybody else is in position and playing one particular position, learning the offense,
04:00communicating the offense, executing what they're supposed to at their respective position.
04:05And I was worried we were going to see that turn-style approach at every position.
04:10And we have it.
04:11I absolutely love it.
04:12You're right.
04:12The stock up for all those O-line decision-makers, no question.
04:16You are tuned in to Stock Up, Stock Down right here live on The Drive,
04:20Sterner and Hughley, every Wednesday right around 3.20 p.m.
04:23That was Ron Stock Up.
04:25Today's edition is Texans minicamp as it is two days in for this 2025 offseason program.
04:33Clint, over to you.
04:35A little stock up for the Texans in this minicamp for you, Dirty Red.
04:39Well, the stock up for me is – there were several I could have picked from because there's been a lot of good that I've seen.
04:44Like surprise good.
04:46Like I didn't expect good.
04:47But I think the biggest one for me is Kamari Lasseter at this point.
04:50It has nothing to do with his play.
04:52It has everything to do with – I just – I am dead-ass serious.
04:56I believe that we need to be talking about Kamari Lasseter in the same vein that we talk about Will Anderson when it comes to leaders,
05:04alphas, tone setters, setting the standard, we've heard D'Amico Rines talk about you want to know what it means
05:10or what it's like or how to play Texan football.
05:13You watch Will Anderson, and now all of a sudden this year he's also Will Anderson and Kamari Lasseter.
05:18And I think it's real.
05:19When you watch practice, Kamari Lasseter jumps off the screen.
05:22When you watch practice, there's no doubt about it that that defense is –
05:25is the – the energy, everything is just through the roof of the defense.
05:33The arrows pointed up.
05:34And I think Kamari Lasseter embodies that at that third level of the defense just like Will Anderson does at that first level.
05:41We talked yesterday about how C.J. Stroud being at practice, the vibe was totally different for the whole team,
05:46definitely for the offense.
05:48I think Kamari Lasseter does that for the defense.
05:50And when you're in the backside of it, everybody can see you making plays and not all caught up in the wash at D-line.
05:57I think it's a little bit more in your face.
05:59So I've got to go with Kamari Lasseter.
06:01The stock is up after watching him a few times.
06:03You definitely can hear his ass on the field.
06:05No question.
06:05You can hear him talking and slapping his own helmet.
06:09You are listening to H-Town's No. 1 Afternoon Drive Sports Talk program with us three gentlemen.
06:15We're on the show, Hughley, Clint Sterner, myself, Tyler Milner, live on the drive every day with you 2 to 6.
06:20And every hump day at this time, we do these stocks.
06:23We got the stock ups out of the way.
06:25Back to you, Ron Hughley.
06:26Give me that stock down for this 2025 of the camp.
06:31Listen, man, I don't know what's happening, but none of this can be a good sign for Christian Harris.
06:36I don't know what's happening.
06:39I know that D'Amico last week when I was out said that he'll be ready for training camp.
06:46We have no idea.
06:47Is there an injury or whatever?
06:49But the way his season ended last year is what it would appear he was getting healthy special team snaps, but nothing else.
06:58And then we come in, they've got, you know, two weeks of OTAs, now a mandatory minicamp, and we haven't seen him or haven't heard any reports of injuries, but haven't heard reports.
07:11And now we're seeing guys like Nick Neiman, who is out there getting run in a spot that you would think he should be in.
07:18E.J. Speed, who's been a starting linebacker most of his career in this league, and I don't know, it just feels like he has fallen further and further out of favor.
07:29Could be dead wrong, but I just don't get the sense, Clint Tyler, that this is a good thing that he just hasn't been on the field for any of these camps, OTAs, or anything.
07:42Yeah, there's not a lot there to discuss, him not being there.
07:47And the way last year went, it absolutely cannot be a stock up.
07:51It's got to be heading in a downward direction.
07:55Hell, maybe spiral.
07:56Yeah, it might be.
07:57Let's hope not.
07:58All right, Dirty Red, put a cap on this thing for us, a little peek at this Texans market.
08:02His minicamp is underway.
08:03What is your stock down for the Houston Texans as we move forward into day three of minicamp?
08:08Quick and easy, man, Damian Pierce.
08:10Nick Chubb's in town, different level.
08:13I think Damian Pierce's days in Houston have come to an end.
08:18And, by the way, he's not been seen either, so I don't know if it's injury or what's going on.
08:23But talk about downward trend, downward spiral.
08:26I think you've got Christian Harris on the defensive side of the football,
08:28and I think Damian Pierce on the offensive side of the football.
08:33Damian Pierce and Chaz McCormick, don't they feel very similar?
08:36Yeah, different shades, but yeah.
08:43Tones?
08:44Tones, yeah.
08:45Tint.
08:46Yeah.
08:48Okay, you wanted to guess one part is a part of the Oreo.
08:54The other one is the other part of the Oreo.
08:56I got you.
08:57But also just their trend.
09:00Having a big year before where they've shown a lot of promise, and now...
09:05I'm following.
09:06I'm tracking with you now.
09:07Now, the sudden, man, he can't beat Jake Dubon out to the field,
09:13and you can't beat Daria Gumboala out on the field.
09:17Who would have thought of that with those two guys?
09:19Get out!
09:20Oh, Conan, boy.
09:22They both need some change of scenery, and I'm with you.
09:25I think one of them will, if not both of them.
09:28I think DP probably will.
09:29All right.
