Planting by direct seed sowing

After completing the lessons in this module, you should be able to describe key steps for planting mangroves by direct seed sowing. We prepare our site for mangrove restoration using the Regeneration Improvement Felling (RIF) technique during the dry season. RIF is not a clear-cut operation, just cutting the unwanted weeds. Derris trifoliata and Dalbergia spinosa invade degraded mangrove and mudflat sites, and must be cleared through weeding operations. Without cleaning these aggressive weeds, mangrove seedlings and propagules struggle to compete in their growth and cannot survive under the unfavorable shade and dominance.
