00:00The curfew currently in effect covering an area of about two and a half square kilometers over
00:04downtown Los Angeles. It's worth reminding that this is a very small area compared to the whole
00:10city affecting just under 100,000 residents in a city of over of nearly four million people. So
00:17you know comparatively speaking this is a small area that is affected but this is the area that
00:22has seen so many protests and some violence over the past few days and we've seen police become
00:26much more forceful in the past few hours in terms of reining in that agitation over the past few
00:33hours throughout the afternoon. The atmosphere was quite festive, quite cheerful. There was
00:38chanting, there was dancing, people passing water bottles. There were a couple spot protests in front
00:43of the federal building where there are people being detained in federal custody and some other
00:48people in front of City Hall in downtown Los Angeles. But again police being much more forceful. There
00:53were arrests that started being made even before the curfew began because of those failures to
01:00disperse and that is really globally the overwhelming majority of those 400 arrests that we have seen
01:05since Saturday. The majority for failing to disperse and ignoring police orders. Some of the more serious
01:10charges for carrying certain weapons like guns or Molotov cocktails. The mayor of Los Angeles,
01:16Karen Bass, says this curfew will remain in place indefinitely unless tensions and arrests ease that will
01:23remain to be seen over the next few days, especially since we are expecting major, major protests on
01:28Saturday across the nation. And just to give you an idea of the atmosphere across the area, across
01:33Southern California, there is so much fear right now. We have seen over the past day or two so many
01:38videos emerging of actual ice raids happening at a farm, for example, in Ventura County that is north of
01:44Los Angeles and just today at a car wash business in Southern Los Angeles. And so there is so much fear
01:51that there are now currently organizations organizing food drop-offs, bringing food to the homes of
01:57people who are undocumented, who might be too worried to leave their houses. And also it's June,
02:03it is graduation season here in the United States. Some schools are now offering the option to parents
02:08to watch their children's graduations on Zoom if they are too worried to leave their homes.
