11:02The shooter who fired first was identified as Christopher Bowie, who was only 16 years
11:06old at the time of the incident.
11:08The second shooter was identified as a 20-year-old from Tallahassee, but he was not named a suspect,
11:13arrested, or charged with a crime in the shooting.
11:15Ten people, including star wide receiver Tank Dell for the Houston Texans, were taken to
11:20the hospital with gunshot wounds, mostly to their legs.
11:23All victims recovered from their injuries.
11:25Christopher Bowie was charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder while
11:29discharging a firearm, three counts of criminal attempt to solicit or conspire to commit a capital
11:34felony, three counts of committing a first-degree felony with a weapon, and one count of possession
11:38of a firearm by a minor under the age of 18.
11:41He pleaded no contest and was found guilty on all charges.
11:45On April 28, 2025, exactly one year after the shooting, Bowie, who is now 17 years old,
11:51was sentenced to ten years in prison, as well as five years of probation and a requirement
11:55to undergo mental health treatment.
11:57After his sentencing, Bowie filed a notice of appeal.
12:00He has since been assigned a public defender, and the state has filed an acknowledgment of
12:04the notice.
12:05Bowie was not involved in the initial fight that broke out, yet he still opened fire into
12:09the crowd.
12:10Authorities have not established a direct connection between Bowie and the individuals involved
12:15in the fight, and his specific intent or motive has not been publicly disclosed.
12:20Now, this was supposed to be a night of music and having a good time, but as a cop, I've
12:23always been baffled how the actions of one or a few people can ruin an entire evening.
12:27And we've seen this type of behavior before, but the question is why?
12:30And of course, we saw how the police responded, but we also got to see the shocking footage
12:33from inside the venue.
12:34And the footage did show the shooter's cold and deliberate actions.
12:37Now, this is a tense scene, and no matter how much police train for these shooting situations,
12:40being in the middle of one is a total different situation.
12:42Because when officers enter the venue, it's difficult to know how many people are shot and
12:45how many shooters are inside.
12:47But it is a moment only a cop could understand because your brain is processing so many different
12:50things at once.
12:51But yet, you've got to stay focused, but you can't get tunnel vision because that's only
12:54seeing what's in front of you.
12:55And I want you guys to think about this because people are screaming and running in different
12:58directions, and the officers still had to find the victims.
13:00So this is a massive crime scene.
13:02And when you have a situation like this, emotions do not wait for court dates.
13:05So the shooter was lucky that this mob of people didn't really get to them.
13:08And this is the tightrope that police walk in these moments because you arrest the suspect,
13:11but you also have to protect them.
13:12And after all the commotion dies down, police are left with the hardest part.
13:15That's controlling the aftermath.
13:16But lastly, this wasn't just a shooting.
13:18It was a test of everything that officers trained for.
13:20Rapid response, crowd control, scene management, and emotional restraint.
13:23Because 10 people were shot that night, and who knows how much this one incident impacted
13:26their lives.
13:27But my question is, how do 10 people get shot in a crowded venue and the system only sees
13:31one suspect worth prosecuting?
13:32I think it's a good question.
