Transcript
00:00So today is all about bakeries and small businesses in Glasgow.
00:04So earlier today we went to Grant's on Bell Grove Street in Deniston and then we went
00:09next door to La Bodega, so that's a Venezuelan coffee shop.
00:14They also do empanadas, they are regarded very highly for them.
00:18So Grant's is a family owned bakery, it's been there for donkey's years.
00:24They do your classic rolls, cold rolls, hot filled rolls, tattie scone, rolling tattie scone.
00:31They have a huge selection of cakes, it's the kind of cakes that you would get in your
00:35school dinner.
00:36It's very nostalgic.
00:37Today I got a chicken and mayo with salad filled roll and the prices are really, really decent.
00:45I will say that, you're talking like maybe like a couple of quid for a roll which is amazing.
00:51This was 280 so I'm going to try it now.
00:58She made it there in front of me as well.
00:59So we are in Glasgow Green today eating this and then I went next door to La Bodega and
01:05got a flat white.
01:06So this is Venezuelan coffee beans.
01:08One thing I noticed about this is that the flavour is very, very rich.
01:11There are like subtle notes but it's very, very rich, earthy coffee, it's lovely.
01:16So we're on our bakery journey today, we have just been to the south side and we went to
01:20the Istanbul bakery, so traditional Turkish sweet treats essentially.
01:25They also have savoury options, you can get meals there and everything.
01:31So I've got two things, all together it costs a pound which is brilliant.
01:35I've got baklava which is a layered pastry dessert made from phyllo pastry filled with
01:43chopped nuts, I think these are pistachios and filled with either syrup or honey.
01:49I actually had a Turkish neighbour and when he moved in I helped him set up his electric
01:55meter and he made me this and it was honestly one of the most delicious things I've ever had.
01:59So I'm going to try this, it's quite messy, mmm, mmm, that's delicious.
02:12It's kind of like an almond croissant, you've got the flavours really like coming through there,
02:17that is absolutely lovely.
02:19We have this, so it's made with grape paste and it's got sesame seeds on it, I think it's
02:28going to be quite sweet, so, mmm, it's like a biscuit inside, mmm, that's delicious.
02:40So they had the biggest selection of cakes ever, all really reasonable prices, you can
02:46buy them in bulk, you can buy a full tray of baklava, you can buy full cakes, or you can
02:52buy individual slices.
02:55It's only a really short walk as well from the town, it's just across the bridge, over
02:59the clay.
