00:00California Governor, Gavin Newsom has reacted to the arrest threat issued against him on Monday by the United States, U.S. President, Donald Trump over the unrest and ongoing violent protest across the streets of one of the cities in California, Los Angeles, over Trump-led government crackdown and massive raids of immigrants in the Los Angeles city, with the governor daring the president to come and arrest him, that, he does not give a damn over his arrest,
00:27that he cares more about his communities, with emphasis that the situation in downtown Los Angeles is a manufactured crisis by President Donald Trump-led government.
00:38It would be recalled that riots and civil unrest by Americans broke out across Los Angeles on Friday and continued throughout the weekend into this new week to protest local raids conducted by the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, ICE,
00:52with the protesters apparently overpowering an overwhelming Los Angeles Police Department, LAPD, which thus appears to have prompted a strong response from President Donald Trump.
01:03Local media and virgos posted online saw rioters caught on camera torching cars and throwing rocks at police vehicles, leading to numerous arrests as the Federal Guard worked to stamp out the chaotic gathering.
01:16So, Donald Trump is putting fuel on this fire, commandeering a state's National Guard without consulting the governor of that state is illegal and immoral, Newsom wrote in an ex-post on Sunday.
01:28California will be taking him to court.
01:31On Monday, the California governor, Gavin Newsom added that,
01:35We will not stand by while Donald Trump illegally federalizes the National Guard.
01:40This is a manufactured crisis.
01:43He is creating fear and terror to take over a state militia and violate the U.S. Constitution.
01:49The illegal order he signed could allow him to send the military into any state he wishes.
01:55The California governor, Gavin Newsom, who is a Democrat while Trump is Republican,
02:00also told local media that he plans to file suit on Monday against the Donald Trump administration to roll back the National Guard deployment,
02:10which he called an illegal act, an immoral act, an unconstitutional act,
02:15following Trump's move to cite a legal provision that allows him to mobilize federal service members when there is
02:21a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the government of the United States.
02:27It was gathered that more than 1,000 protesters clashed and faced off with National Guard troops in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday
02:35during the latest demonstrations against immigration raids that swept across California over the weekend,
02:41with roughly 300 National Guard members arriving in the city at the time,
02:46with President Trump saying on Monday he had authorized 2,000 members of the National Guard deployed to the troubled area.
02:53On April 16, 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom had stated via his verified social media account that
03:01Donald Trump does not have the authority to unilaterally impose the largest tax hike of our lifetime with his destructive tariffs.
03:10We're taking him to court.
03:11The Pentagon also confirmed that President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops
03:18and activation of 700 marines to the troubled Los Angeles City.
03:23Residents said that the demonstrations began outside in downtown Los Angeles on Friday after the locals became more aware
03:30that the Immigration Customs Enforcement ICE offices were carrying out raids across the city.
03:36Los Angeles Times, a Los Angeles-based news media gave some descriptions of how some persons helped save the lives of rioters during the protest.
03:45When Cynthia Soriao, Edgar Hernandez and Cesarin Hernandez set up their Aguas Frescas stand with an extra gallon of milk on Sunday morning,
03:55they never imagined they'd be using it.
03:58To quell the burn of tear gas hours later, the trio sells hot dogs and Aguas Frescas off the historic La Plaza de Cultura Y Artes,
04:07next to the Church of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels.
04:10Most weekends their customers consist of churchgoers after service or a baptism.
04:15On Sunday they were protesters locked in a dramatic clash with the Los Angeles Police Department and the National Guard
04:22over a series of immigration and customs enforcement sweeps occurring across the LA.
04:28And in the process of serving them, Soriao and the Hernandez brothers ducked fireworks,
04:33hid beneath their food stand and poured surplus milk into the eyes of protesters who had inhaled tear gas.
04:39Like multiple street vendors, this trio helped nourish the city during a fraught weekend that saw more than 70 arrests,
04:47widespread vandalism and cars set ablaze.
04:50Some vendors sold hot dogs on the 110 freeway as protesters and law enforcement took to the stretch of highway on foot.
04:58Others set up fruit carts near City Hall.
05:02Community aid group Food Not Bombs DTLA distributed free plant-based meals from a bike trailer,
05:09its hand-painted sign emblazoned with a raised fist clutching a carrot.
05:13Reuters International News Agency also reported that,
05:16The U.S. military will temporarily deploy about 700 marines to Los Angeles until more National Guard troops can arrive,
05:24marking another escalation in President Donald Trump's response to street protests over his aggressive immigration policies.
05:32Tensions have been rising since Trump activated the National Guard on Saturday
05:36after street protests erupted in response to immigration raids in Southern California.
05:41It is the biggest flashpoint yet in the Trump administration's aggressive efforts to deport migrants living in the country illegally.
05:50The announcement that marines would be deployed was made on the fourth straight day of protests.
05:55Late on Monday police began to disperse hundreds of demonstrators who gathered outside a federal detention center
06:02in downtown Los Angeles where immigrants have been held.
06:06National Guard forces had formed a human barricade to keep people out of the building.
06:10Then a phalanx of Los Angeles police moved up the street,
06:15starting to push people from the scene and firing, less lethal, munitions such as gas canisters.
06:21Police had used similar tactics since Friday.
06:25The LAPD said late on Monday afternoon that some protesters had started throwing objects of offices
06:31and the use of less lethal munitions had been authorized, adding in an ex post,
06:36less lethal munitions may cause pain and discomfort.
06:39U.S. Marines have been deployed domestically for major disasters such as Hurricane Katrina
06:45and the September 11, 2001, attacks, but it is extremely rare for U.S. military troops to be used for domestic policing.
06:54For now, the Trump administration was not invoking the Insurrection Act,
06:57which would allow troops to directly participate in civilian law enforcement, according to a U.S. official speaking on condition of anonymity.
07:06Gavin Newsom is daring.
07:11Should he do it?
07:12I would do it.
07:13I don't know where you're talking.
07:14I think it's great.
07:16Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a great thing.
07:19He's done a terrible job.
07:20Look, I like Gavin Newsom.
07:23He's a nice guy, but he's grossly incompetent.
07:26Everybody knows.
07:26All you have to do is look at the little railroad he's building.
07:30It's about 100 times over budget.
07:32We're putting a flagpole over there.
07:34Under budget.
07:35I always do under budget.
07:36What does your intel tell you about these people causing all the problems in LA?
07:40Are they people ICE is trying to deport, or are they professional agitators?
07:45The people that are causing the problem are professional agitators.
07:50They're insurrectionists.
07:51They're bad people.
07:52They should be in jail.
07:53And what crime has he committed that would warrant his arrest?
07:56What crime has Governor Newsom committed?
07:59The crime has he committed?
08:00Yeah, to warrant his arrest, as you suggested earlier.
08:01I think his primary crime is running for governor, because he's done such a bad job.
08:07What he's done to that state is like what Biden did to this country.
08:11And that's pretty bad.
08:14It's the wrong philosophy.
08:15There are thousands, hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, many of them prisoners.
08:22They're taking up your health care.
08:23They're taking up your space in schools.
08:25They're taking up your hospital.
08:27And in many cases, they're criminals.
08:30And we have to do something about it.
08:32And we're doing something about it.
08:33I want to thank the incredible patriots of ICE and Tom Holman, who has been incredible.
08:39And Christy Noem, likewise incredible.
08:43The job they're doing.
08:45And it's like an unforced error.
08:47There was no reason for this.
08:48Look, it's just all bizarre.
08:50If the president were to order for the governor to be arrested for no reason, I would imagine I would probably be right behind the governor and then my successor behind them.
09:02I mean, none of this really makes any sense.
09:04There's no legal framework or justification or precedent for any of this.
09:10And so, again, when I think about people watching right now trying to make sense of it all, it's very difficult because there is no precedent and there is no foundation within the rule of law for any of this.
09:23Take your hands off these poor people.
09:26They're just trying to live their lives, man.
09:29Trying to live their lives, paying their taxes.
09:31Been here 10 years.
09:32The fear, the horror.
09:34The hell is this guy?
09:36Come after me.
09:37Arrest me.
09:37Let's just get it over with.
09:38Tough guy.
09:40You know, I don't give a damn.
09:42But I care about my community.
09:44I care about this community.
09:45The hell are they doing?
09:47These guys need to grow up.
09:48They need to stop.
09:50And we need to push back.
09:51And I'm sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting.
09:56So, Tom, arrest me.
09:57Let's go.
09:59The perception is that...
09:59...bringing youth to news in a more digital way.
