Protests over immigration raids in the United States have entered their fourth night in Los Angeles as friction between state and federal leaders escalates to new heights.
00:00Well, tensions do seem to be rising here on the streets of L.A.
00:05We've found ourselves at yet another standoff between protesters on one side and police on the other.
00:11So far, it remains relatively peaceful, but you do get a sense that one bad decision from a single individual could ignite the situation.
00:19And we've certainly seen that elsewhere in the city.
00:22Police have been firing rounds of tear gas, rubber bullets, foam pellets to disperse the crowds.
00:28Now, this confrontation on the ground mirrors the confrontation between California Governor Gavin Newsom and the President, Donald Trump.
00:37Gavin Newsom, of course, has taken the Trump administration to court over its decision to deploy the National Guard.
00:44But even after that, Donald Trump has doubled the number of National Guard troops sent here to L.A. to 4,000.
00:51And that's on top of 700 active duty Marines who've been deployed here.
00:56Now, that escalation is interesting, given the fact that President Trump himself said earlier today that the situation here in L.A. is under control.
01:05And it has seemed to be that way.
01:08Certainly, there's some tension, but we haven't seen large-scale violence.
01:12It does seem that authorities have this under control at the moment.
01:16Now, it's a very volatile situation, a very fragile situation.
01:19So, certainly, the city's on edge and everyone is just waiting to see what happens next.
