00:00Well, I've spoken to the sheriffs on the ground who have said they have things under control.
00:04There is no need for the National Guard. They have the manpower that they need.
00:08So this is really just an escalation of the president coming into California.
00:13We haven't asked for the help. We don't need the help.
00:16This is in escalating it, causing tensions to rise.
00:18It's only going to make things worse in a situation where people are already angry over immigration enforcement.
00:25They've seen what's happened over the course of the last several months
00:28where you have immigration showing up to hospitals when women are delivering and giving birth
00:32and separating parents from their newborns.
00:35We're seeing ICE going to schools, and we know that there is no targeted enforcement.
00:41That is the problem.
00:42Look, nobody disagrees with targeted enforcement of violent criminals.
00:47That is not what's happening here.
00:49What happened yesterday at Paramount when this started was there was a staging location.
00:53We understand that they were going to go into the Home Depot, go after day laborers.
00:59I mean, these are people who are looking for work.
01:01These are not criminals. They're looking for work.
01:04And so protesters came out. It started peacefully.
01:08Then we had federal officers, you know, issuing, doing the tear gas, shooting out pellets.
01:17Federal officers, you mean ICE?
01:18ICE, yes.
01:19And they were shooting pellets, and, you know, people were there to protest.
01:23They're there to protest the mass deportations that are happening.
01:26And so it was peaceful.
01:28And, of course, you escalate the situation.
01:30Now you're talking about bringing in the National Guard to militarize the situation.
01:34It's going to get worse.
01:36It's unnecessary again.
01:37So we've been told to get ready for 30 days of enforcement, 30 days of ICE enforcement.
01:42So 2,000 troops to be there for that enforcement, it's a concern.
01:48I mean, it's going to escalate the situation.
01:50People are going to protest because they're angry about the situation.
01:53And we have to just reiterate to people to do it peacefully, to make sure not to do any violence.
02:00We absolutely condemn any violence.
02:03It's don't get violent.
02:04Those are not the people that are coming out to protest immigration.
02:08What we've seen, what I, so let me tell you.
02:12What are the violent people doing?
02:13Okay, so last night when I talked to the sheriff, he had told me the situation in Paramount was under control,
02:19that the people that were peacefully protested have left.
02:22The situation was now across the street into the Compton area.
02:25And this was the unruly folks, that Saturday night crowd,
02:29the people that were there to actually protest immigration were gone.
02:33We don't, we agree that if you're being violent, you should be arrested.
02:36You should be prosecuted.
02:37There is no disagreement on that.
02:39I think that's an effort that we can all say.
02:42But this is not what's happening.
02:44We are having an administration that's targeting peaceful protests, people that are there to protest.
02:49The president is sending the National Guard because he doesn't like the scenes.
02:53He doesn't like the scenes of people peacefully protesting.
02:56And we know that California law enforcement, local law enforcement, they're there to protect the public.
03:01They're there to protect and have public safety.
03:04And that's what they're there to do.
03:06Now, when people turn on law enforcement is when you get that response.
03:10So we want to make sure that people continue to speak up, that people show up, but that people are peaceful about the situation.
03:18And that's what we're continuing to tell people.
03:21Well, I just tell people, look, be peaceful.
03:23Have your hands up.
03:24You know, clearly, if you are interfering, they have the ability to arrest you.
03:30But what they're doing is they're being much more aggressive than that.
03:34Just last night, we saw the video of the federal officers being aggressive with press that had press suits on that were identifying themselves as press.
03:43There is just no regard right now.
03:45And that is the concern that we have.
03:47And we have to remember why this is happening.
03:49It's happening because of everything that's been going on for the last couple of months.
03:54And this community is saying, we don't want ICE in our community.
03:57We want you out.
03:58Now, there's a way to do this, Dana.
04:00There's a way to do targeted ICE enforcement.
04:02It's been done for a long time.
04:05And that's when you're going after criminals.
04:07And that is not what's happening.
04:09They're stopping anybody that's at a bus stop, that's going to shop.
04:13We saw that they picked up a U.S. marshal and thought he was somebody.
04:18They detained him.
04:19So they are picking up innocent people.
04:21They're picking up American citizens.
04:23And then they're detaining them.
04:24Now, we also know, of course, the president of the labor union was assaulted and had to go to the hospital, was hurt.
04:30Now he's being detained.
04:31It's really out of control.
