At a press briefing, AG Pam Bondi announced charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident who was deported to an El Salvador prison and is returning to the U.S. to face charges.

00:00Good afternoon. We're here today to announce a major update in an important

00:07case. Abrego Garcia has landed in the United States to face justice. On May

00:1421st, a grand jury in the Middle District of Tennessee returned a sealed

00:19indictment charging Abrego Garcia with alien smuggling and conspiracy to

00:25commit alien smuggling in violation of Title 8 USC 1324. We want to thank

00:32President Bukele for agreeing to return Abrego Garcia to the United States. Our

00:38government presented El Salvador with an arrest warrant and they agreed to

00:43return him to our country. We're grateful to President Bukele for agreeing to

00:48return him to our country to face these very serious charges. This is what

00:54American justice looks like. Upon completion of his sentence, we

00:58anticipate he will be returned to his home country of El Salvador. The grand

01:05jury found that over the past nine years, Abrego Garcia has played a significant

01:11role in an alien smuggling ring. They found this was his full-time job, not a

01:20contractor. He was a smuggler of humans and children and women. He made over a

01:29hundred trips. The grand jury found smuggling people throughout our country.

01:36MS 13 members, violent gang terrorist organization members throughout our country.

01:44Thousands of illegal aliens were smuggled. This is especially disturbing because Abrego

01:56Garcia is also alleged with transporting minor children. The defendant traded the

02:02innocence of minor children for profit. There are even more disturbing facts that the

02:10grand jury uncovered. It is alleged this defendant is part of the same smuggling ring

02:16responsible for the death of more than 50 migrants in 2021 after the tractor trailer

02:23overturned in Mexico. This is part of that same ring. The defendant abused undocumented

02:32alien females, according to co-conspirators who were under his control while transporting them

02:39throughout our country. This defendant trafficked firearms and narcotics throughout our country

02:47on multiple occasions. They were using vehicles, SUVs, with added seats in the back, floors that

02:56had been ripped out, guns, narcotics, children, women, MS 13 members. That is what the grand

03:06jury found. A co-conspirator alleged that the defendant solicited nude photographs and videos of

03:15a minor. A co-conspirator also alleges the defendant played a role in the murder of a rival gang members

03:21mother. These facts demonstrate Abrego Garcia is a danger to our community.
